oh, so you're studying to be a "male" nurse...
I just heart it when people ask me that. I'm a Nursing Assistant at my hospital's ICU, and I only need 4 more months to finish up my RN. But, when they ask me if I'm a student and what's my major. Their response is "oh, neat, another male nurse." I just let it go by...but in a while, why do people have to put "male" in front of it. People can just say nurse. I don't say "Oh, you went to med school to become a female doctor." I find it kind of rude. I know nursing is a field that the majority are women, but little things like that really bothers. Female lawyers, Female physicians, Female Cops...I mean, I don't see guys say that.

buzz cuts
I'm in nursing school, and the first thing that the instructors always say is that "everyday is like an interview" because they're always looking at how "professional" you're looking to represent the school that you're in. But, I've seen girls wear earrings, long hair, some don't even cover their tattoos, and they still get through the program just fine. I have a crew cut, and since day one, none of the professors had said anything about it. I just think that it all depends on how well you do in clinical. I believe style really doesn't matter, just as long as a person is neat and professional looking. ^_^

Tech college, Community college, or University?
I completely agree with you. Community College will try to just get your money and waste more years for a student to just earn a 2-year degree. If you're young, go for the BSN, because most ADN people go later for their BSN...might just do it now once you're young and free of any other responsibilities.

Discrimination...You think??!!?!
The nurses in charge always did this to me too. Would change me to different halls because she said that we needed at least "a guy" in each hall. The residents we had were very heavy, and most of the girls couldn't do anything by themselves. That's why it kinda sucks working in a field that the majority is all girls. But, either way. I quit soon after, because it was discrimanatory, it doesn't matter what anyone says, it was the worst place to work.

Harder for males to get into BSN or ADN programs?
I'm attending a community college for my associates and then moving on for my BSN, but comminity colleges health allied programs are really hard to get into; very competitive. There are always rumors about, guys are preferred than girls into the program, but the college still clarifies that rumors shouldn't be taken seriously, like all the girls take it. I was accepted, but I had good grades, and most of my general ed courses done, the only courses I needed to take were nursing courses, and some girls said "you just got accepted because you're a guy." But, to answer your question. I think it all depends if you're a dedicated student, you will get into a nursing school. Just let your grades reflect the hard work you've done. :)
