List your crazy interview questions...
I just had an interview in a city 40 miles away from my current job. They wanted me to list some of the surgical doctors i work with at my current job....i thought that was odd. After listing a few, i had to ask, "do you them?" Of course the answer was no.

New Grad/Hate My Job/Life is Miserable!
Omg...this article brings me back to my first yr in nursing....horrible horrible. I had a preceptor I hated because she yelled at me for every mistake I made, was too slow, or just because and in front of all the other nurses. I would go home and cry and call my other new grad friends and tell them I just want to quit. Of course they all told me not to. My sister asked me what the problem was. I told her I can't seem to get organized. She told me we were the most organized people she knew. That we learned this from working for our mom at a really young age helping out in her business. She told me to stick it out and she knew I had it in me and that it just takes time. Thank goodness I listened....something must have clicked. It did get easier during the first year. I found my routine. I even figured out how to use my brain (not literally lol) to help me be more organized. The preceptor I hated is now someone I like. Tho I wouldnt use her style to precept a new nurse, I understand...not everyone can or should precept. So to all you new grads who feel like you just can't do it....you can!!! Just find your own routine, ask questions when in doubt, and learn from your more experienced coworkers. Everyone has their own way of doing things but maybe you can learn from theirs. Don't let your first year determine if you were meant to be a nurse. It takes time....I'm in 5 years and my favorite saying is "theres always something new to learn everyday you go to work." That is why I love nursing now! Keeps you on your toes! Lol

Is it me or is hiring at Kaiser Permanente a joke?
Hmmmm let me tell you my story with Kaiser. I was interviewing with alot of different hospitals as a new grad. The interview with Kaiser felt really good....they finally called me. HR told me I got the position, started taking my RN license number and other information. In the middle of our phone call, i get an "uh oh" from the HR lady on the phone and her next statement was "I'm sorry, but you weren't hired after all. I made a mistake...you were only chosen as an alternate should the other candidates decline their position". Can you imagine how crushed I was???? Pretty much offered a job and taken away within 5 mins....so look on the bright side, at least they spared you that...lol

Stupid things said by your non-nurse significant other
Thought I'd share this hilarious story before I go to bed. My mom was having stomach pains so my dad took her to the ER. I was scheduled to work but got a call from my dad saying my mom was in ICU and her BP was in the 80's! Of course I'm freaking out wondering what could be wrong with her. After calling work and begging to be cancelled, I get to the hospital to find out my mom was not in ICU but still in the ER. The supposedly bp in the 80's was actually her hr! I figured this out when I got into her room and my dad was reading the monitor and said, "look at her bp is so low" and he was pointing to her hr on the monitor! Ughhhh and this was all figured out after putting calls to many family members too....

Cypress College Point System for ADN acceptance
She is not hard at all. You just have to do the work. She gives you the test before the test and you just gotta find the answers (work as a group). Up to you but I didn't find the class difficult at all.

Cypress College Point System for ADN acceptance
ELAC has physiology for the summer and its like 16 weeks or less. Take with Canales. Alot of work but easy!!!!!! I know...at ELAC??? But they take anyone cuz alot of people drop (at least when I took it there). Plus, if you do your work and study, you should get an "A" which will help get you in a program.

Cypress College Point System for ADN acceptance
Are you kidding me? Sleep during nursing school!!!!! That is unheard of! lol The instructors are very demanding. Some a little more than others. If you get accepted, let me know! I can direct you to the right instructors that are awesome and FAIR!

doing poorly in clinicals
This is soooo true! I have messed up many times due to anxiety! One word of advice that helps me, make a clinical checklist! This checklist could include med times, accu checks, charting, checking lab values, I & O's, etc. Follow the checklist and cross them off as you do them. Good luck!

Cypress College Point System for ADN acceptance
I just graduated from Cypress College. When I applied, I had a B in micro and A's in anatomy/physiology. = 22 points. Didn't you go to the application orientation? They usually break down the scoring system for you. If you didn't go, give the health science dept a call and they will break down for you. But if you have A's in all the prereq's and did all your gen. edu. classes, you shouldn't have a problem getting in. Good luck! Cypress College has an awesome program and most of my class has passed the boards with 75 questions only, including me!

For anyone that failed NCLEX-1st Attempt
Hi Kida! Thanks for sharing your experiences. Wishing you the best of luck and just remember, you know more than you think, otherwise you wouldn't have passed the nursing program. Btw, what happened to the job you had lined up. Did they hold for you?
