First Travel Assignment :(
I hate that! OMG. It just makes everything more difficult. They should have a simple medication book. Not these stupid care plans for each pt. Just needed to vent. sorry

First Travel Assignment :(
IDK maybe!! But they think it's completely normal to have NO mars. You are supposed to get on this confusing computer system and print out 0100 med list and it has all the meds for the entire floor. Its soo screwed up.

First Travel Assignment :(
NO MAR! Its crazy. I just got a short 8 hour inservice on the comp. system. No inservice to the way things are done on the floor at all. But i guess thats because Im a traveler.

First Travel Assignment :(
Yea it is odd because the place I am working has many travelers, and they only hired one staff GN out of the last class. I don't understand it. It isnt my fault though. I just go were I'm needed. Another thing is this hospital has no MAR's( med. administration records) or a kardex, and no charge nurse. I've never worked in a place that didnt have these. Is this common??? Some things just seem so redundant. In report (which is taped) they want EVERY detail. It;s like a 20 min report on each pt. They want their assessment. Which is stupid. They should assess their own pts. Obviously if their assessment reveals wheezes I will give that in report.

What's the craziest order you've ever seen?
I've seen this many times to prevent withdrawl. Apparently its easier than prescribing librium

IV Dilaudid problem patients!!!!!!!!!!!
Although I am aware of these addictions, we must remember that pain is subjective. For all we know these people ARE in excrutiating pain. I'm not willing to make someone suffer because I think or even pretty sure that they're an addict.

TB test positive... but may be neg?? Please advise...
I had what looked like a positive and turns out it was just a local reaction to the PPD. Wonder why the CXR would take that long. Call them, explain your situation and maybe they can read it sooner.. Good Luck! If it turns out to be positive it's not the end of your nursing career. TB is not always active. On the bright side you wont ever have to have a PPD again...

MRSA in the family
Hello, seems like you know your stuff. MRSA is soo confusing to me. If a pt has an open wound with MRSA they are placed on isolation. If that very same pt comes in a yr later with something completely unrelated they are placed on precautions for History of MRSA even though the open wound has been closed for months. ??? Would love to hear your insight

NO LUNCH? NO BREAKS? Is that common in nursing?
I think that is ridiculous. It definately happens but shouldn't everyday. I definately have days that I cannot even go the the BR. It's terrible. And usually if I swipe missed meal it doesn't even show up in my paycheck. I just love it when some ppl (mostly smokers, no offense) who work 8 hrs compared to my 12, take a half hour brkfst, half hour lunch and then a 2pm cig. break. I work from 11a-11p and sometimes I dont get a break at all until about 9pm when my pts are settling down and meds are mostly finished I can run down to get a soda. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. Really really irritates me.

ileostomies and fistulas
I've had this happen before, its such a pain. Have you tried like placing an extra drsg on the area that leaks? Like some gauze and an ABD pad and tape. Sounds like it may be difficult because of the location in relation to the wound vac. This wouldnt be a total fix, but it would aid in keeping it clean for longer. good luck..

Back Rubs
elaboration: It shouldn't matter who the patient is. It makes people feel good, and it is still one of the best nursing measures. It's one of the few things that we can do to make a patient a lot more comfortable (without an order) I can understand if the 40 yr old man is asking for help with the urinal, but a simple back rub is not a big deal, and that is MY opinion.

Blurred Boundaries: Should we eliminate the distinction between RNs and LPNs?
Please Do Not put words in my mouth. I never said you dont deserve to be employed. I feel that there should be less or no LPN schools and all RN schools. There are LPN's that are much smarter and have much more experience than me, and I learn from them all day long. Dont you think its sad that they make so much less than an RN. In the nursing homes LPN's do almost the same exact thing as an RN. So No Proud2bLPN I am not degrading you, just think you should be rewarded a bit more for what you do. Its a couple more months of school.

Back Rubs
If the night is slow I will give back rubs. The patients just love it. The aids give back rubs with PM care also.

Blurred Boundaries: Should we eliminate the distinction between RNs and LPNs?
It's so difficult. If there was only one type of nurse (RN's) it would make my life a LOT easier because I wouldnt be running around for all the LPN's to do their pushes. They dont help with my work when I do their pushes. When i'm doing an admission of one of their patients they are not helping me with my patients. I think LPN's should be able to do the same things as an RN. In other words they should become RN's.
-
NO more LPN's
It seems like there will be a major increase in nurses because of the recession and everyone is turning to the "recession proof" jobs(nursing). It seems like there are fewer nursing jobs day by day.

You are not a DR your just an rn.....RESPECT.
That is terrible. Some people just don't realize what we have to go through. I understand where you are coming from. Some patients want nothing to do with me, and the things I suggest. If it doesnt come from the doc they dont believe it!

Nurse/Patient Ratios
Just wondering what your opinion is about nurse/patient ratios. How much is too much? Please share!! Thanks!
