  1. You will definitely get in sooner I got in a 2 semesters early and had the chance to get in even a semester before that. Search for the other threads on this subject and you will get some relief I promise.
  2. Where is this? What are six facilities that have this program? I think it kinda sucks but if it gets you a job.....
  3. I bought the books...not sure if I would need them for the second semester or not. So many people say that the books are expensive the first block because you use some of the same books in future blocks. Lets hope...
  4. They changed the price of the nursing course starting Spring 2012. Non nursing courses are about $52 a credit hour but the nursing core classes will be about $71 a credit hour. Most of your other fees look right on. I am just starting block one and my fees are $806.00 for tuition and fees and $762.00 for only the required books.
  5. I applied for the program in 10-2009 and got seated for the fall of 2012. But I am actually starting Fall 2011, in just a few weeks actually. Talk about stoked....
  6. Stargate, thanks for post. I was thinking of getting a Kindle reader. Are you saying that the textbooks are digital? Do you personally use a reader or your ipad to read your textbooks?
  7. Thanks for the info. I have been brushing up on those subjects for the entrance exam but I didn't think it really counted for anything....especially since they don't even tell you that a test will be administered. Now I am worried!
  8. Is it possible to get all or most of your books digitally, like on an e-reader or nook instead of lugging around heavy books everywhere?
  9. Well I too am now a lucky one as I have been moved up the list. I start the program Fall 2011, that is one year early. I got my orientation date of 4-1-2011 and I am so excited. Just two questions though to anyone in the program.... do you actually get your class schedule during orientation? and are they flexible at all on changing your class times? Thanks to any responders.
  10. Are you saying you got in a semester early???? That is great, it gets my hopes up that I won't be waiting until Fall 2012.....
  11. Staragate- I took Biomedical Ethics, listed as Bio 250 and thought it very relevant to nursing. I am also on the list for Pima for Fall 2012, but everyone is saying that you get in AT LEAST one semester earlier if not two. Good Luck to everyone heading in for orientation.......
  12. Good to hear all is cleared/clearing up. I haven't started NS yet, I applied Oct 2009 and got seated for Fall 2012. I hope I am not waiting 3 years.....I have 3 more co-reqs also to do in Spring 2010 then I am done but for the nursing core. Have you already been seated to start NS in the spring? If so, I am soooooooooo jealous. :) I was also told to list liberal arts as my major in 2008 when I started my pre-reqs so that info still seems to be correct. I know the Pell grants are the first monies to be awarded each year so I bet all that money is gone, hopefully you can get a sub/unsub loan for the spring..
  13. I am a Pima CC student under the associates for liberal arts too. I am on the wait list for nursing program too. I have had no problems with my financial aid, thank goodness. When you fill out your FAFSA I didn't know you could specifically apply for the Pell Grant.....I thought you just applied for aid, whatever you could qualify for...... I thought FAFSA applications had to be turned in during the spring for the following school year so turn in March 2009 for the Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 terms, so are there problems with your application because it is so late in the year? Have you found your major listed in MyPima to confirm you are in fact a liberal arts major? My best advice would be to go into a campus financial aid office to actually talk to someone face to face. You would probably get lame/vague answers over the phone. Please let us know how it turns out....GL
  14. You make good points. No having kids doesn't make you a better NS, it just gives you more purpose. At 35 years old and still at least a 2 year wait to get into NS and still two years of school for my ADN before I graduate and then finding a new job....now is the perfect and likely only time left to have my last child. And if nicholswife has the same kind of wait at MCC as here at PCC, she may be in the same boat. I do agree with you that back up day care and a strong support system is mandatory for moms in NS but totally disagree that you have to give up family and a life to get through school.
  15. Jazzymama, did you still get into the semester you were supposed to get into? When did you apply and what seat date?
  16. I totally don't understand what Bug Out is saying in that post..............Moms with kids can get through NS as well and probably better than a childless person because we have the drive to do so. Having a 3rd child or waiting until school is done is a personal choice and neither would make a dream of becoming a nurse vanish.... nicholswife, Here at Pima CC, they give you your seat date after all pre-req's are done and you apply for the program. I hear that everyone get in at least one semester earlier than the letter.......As far as MCC is concerned, I read a lot of posts here about MCC time stamps and when people get into that program...Have you read any of those posts?
  17. What is the wait like once you apply to MCC? Down here at Pima CC, I applied Oct 2009 and got accepted for Fall 2012 so I have a long wait. My hubby and I decided to try for number 3 (and last) while I wait. If not preggo by April 2010 we plan to stop. This way the baby will be at least one year old before I start nursing school..... I wouldn't want to be preggo or have a newborn during NS. I have worked too hard and will have waited so long to have any reason to drop out.
  18. Thanks soupermom.....I have only 2 more co-req's scheduled for the Spring then I plan on taking 2 semesters of Spanish and then I guess I will twiddle my thumbs for a while. What happens to my student loans if I am not registered for any classes during the waiting game? Will they go into repayment or can I get a forbearance? I worry about taking classes for the RN->BSN route now because don't most employers offer that bridge to a particular school? So if my future new employer goes through Grand Canyon and I took the transfer classes to NAU wouldn't that have been a loss? I just wish there were a universal credit transfer system to all colleges.... Soupermom, please give me a hint to how your classes are going? Good instructors? Have you had many people drop out yet?
  19. Well I just applied for the PCC Nursing Program 10/2009 and got a seat date of Fall 2012. I really hope it is not that long. I cannot fathom waiting that long. Anyone have any insights or recent experience on getting called up sooner? Please give me some hope...........
  20. Why not take a second language? It might make you more marketable.....I live in Arizona and am taking Spanish.
  21. I think you should look online at your state nursing board site to see if they are accepted first of all. Then ask the school about their pass rates for the state exams. Good pass rates probably mean good instructors. Then I would look at flexibility to meet my schedule and number of clinical hours. Of course all the state approved schools will require the minimum number of clinical hours but if I would want a few more than the minimum just for the practice. Finally I would look at price.....I would eliminate the cheapest and the most expensive schools.
  22. Thanks for the info. I just applied for the nursing program and am waiting for the letter to tell me when I would start. I tried to get in the CNA class at Pima but their class is only 30 people and I was 43rd on the list. I can try again in the Spring for the next class, I just didn't want to wait that long to start gainin that valuable experience. I am thinking about at least volunteering at the local nursing homes. Does your facility welcome volunteers? Can you give me any information? Thanks in advance and good luck to you in NS. When do you start?
  23. I am looking for any CNAs in the Tucson AZ area......I would like to know where the best LTC or assisted living facilities are to work. Does your facility train people to become a CNA? I have called a few places here in town but no one will hire me without already having my license. I am on the wait list for nursing school now and was looking to become a CNA and gain some experience while I am waiting. Any advice is appreciated.
  24. Does the textbook you are using provide a website for further learning? Most do....if so they typically have a glossary section with wave files for audio. I know the AP books by Marieb has this function.
  25. The biggest problem I am having is that no one wants to hire a newbie.....Everyone wants at least a years experience but I can get any experience because no one will hire.............But I keep trucking along hoping someone will give me a chance...meanwhile I volunteer at a LTC and am going to school for my RN ADN
