For those of us who cannot find work...
I have applied to 50 jobs in 4 states...not one interview. I am just extremely discouraged.

For those of us who cannot find work...
Do you think that hospitals will be willing to bend the rules next year with their new grad residency/internship programs because of the economy? I don't think I will be working within 6 months, and most of the places I see have requirements that include "must have graduated within 6 months" type of deal in order to be able to take part in that orientation.

I spent over 600 dollars on textbooks and supplies
I think that's great that you are donating your textbooks. Wish there were more people like you in my program! :wink2:

How do I dump my study partner/friend ?
I have a similar problem which I posted about a while ago...My buddy actually waited a few days after registration, checked to see which classes I was registered for and then switched ALL of her classes so that she'd have my exact schedule...yikes. She calls me to ask me questions all the time about dates of exams, lab skill deadlines, program info etc...things that are always mentioned IN CLASS. but the last few weeks I waited to call her back or didn't respond to her emails until a few days later. I think she final understands that I am not going to hold her hand anymore. It is very frustrating but try to get involved with other people to study with.

Now That the Semester is over....What Will You Do Better Next Semester
Go to bed earlier the night before clinicals so I'm not hitting the snooze button twice the next morning and then running around yelling and looking for my shoes in the dark and then mad that I didn't have time to stop and get coffee
-
How Do You Do It?
AVOID ALL-NIGHTERS if i drink coffee after 8pm I ALWAYS regret it...I will just lay in bed and my heart pounding out of my chest with the occasional PVC and worst of all waste 2 precious hours of sleep... i'd rather wake up and study(and drink a nice half caf/decaf)..I find that between the hours of 6am-10am I can really focus, and it's nice and peaceful!

Tattoo Cover Makeup?
how about covering it with that body makeup and then slapping a nice duoderm dressing (it's that clear dressing that is placed over peripheral IV sites) on it so it doesn't smear? it's waterproof so you can still wash with it. i think long sleeves aren't supposed to be worn and it will probably smear it anyway...

Help Me! Final Exam On Wednesday!
ok so it's an 85% that you're after...you can do this!!! did your professor give you any kind of test breakdown? or do you know if the majority of the test will cover some of the 'newer' material that you went over in class most recently? do you have powerpoints? i would read the chapters over with the powerpoints and write notes and possible questions that would be asked...fold a piece of paper in half and write any nursing schoolish question that pops into your head...and then write the answer next to it. other advice, break up your study time: study 45 minutes take a 15 min break, repeat. study as much as you can (at least 8 hrs a day if you're not working) and log your hours...at least then you can say you gave it your best shot. and make sure you get enough sleep each night leading up to the test because you need time to retain that info! NO CRAMMING the night before...it just doesn't work. Good luck!!!!

I hate nursing
Maybe when you start your orientation and start working you will start liking it. Is it clinicals that have soured your enthusiasm? I have days when the last thing I want to do is go in and be upbeat and enthusiastic, but when I get to the hospital I mentally try to leave any bad feelings behind at the door...99% of the time by the end of the day the good feelings just sneak up on me and I can't help but like it. Please just try to look for one positive thing in your day that made you feel good even if you had a terrible day...

Pre-Nursing Student in NJ with a TON of questions.. need help!
Just a suggestion... Meridian Health has the OFFER program. You work two twelve hr shifts during the weekend, get paid for full 36 hrs, have full benefits, and have school completely paid for in return for 2 yrs service. I also know that Georgian Court has just started (this semester, in fact) a BSN program through Meridian as well. If you want, you can PM me maybe I can help you answer some more question.

Stopping for an accident...
Just wondering if any of you have stopped to help out (while in nursing school) after seeing an accident on the road. Do you think police/fire/etc. would just tell me to leave if I approached?

can you apply for two states?
Hi All, Just a quick question...I live in NJ but want to work in NYC when I graduate. Does the NCLEX allow you to apply for two state licenses? Or do I have to take it in New York? Thanks..

What was your 1st OR experience in NS?
a facelift! the surgeon was extremely nice and all the nurses told me how great he is to work with. I loved the whole experience and would definitely consider taking a job in the OR if offered a position in the future. Funny how many years ago I saw a facelift on an HBO special about aging/finding the fountain of youth and had to change the channel when they started manipulating the skin...but had no problems watching this one!

MAJOR burnout
I'm sorry you feel this way. Have you done or will you be able to do an externship? I was burned out, tired, depressed, and felt that I knew nothing after an extremely intense junior year...and after doing my externship I had gone from never placing a foley to putting in more than I could count, approaching patients with confidence, drawing blood, hanging tons of IV meds, reading EKGs, etc....My love and passion came back with a vengence! As for lung sounds, I always ask another nurse or my clinical instructor if they could listen to my patient's lungs after I heard something abnormal to clarify if it was what I thought it was. Don't let this get to you, don't let a couple of papers (or semesters) stand in your way of getting to your goal. I take one grade at a time and one day a time. If I think about the all the things I need to do next week, it's too much.

How do you say no to a nursing buddy?
Hi all, Hoping I could get your advice on this matter... I have a nursing buddy who is a nice person, a nice friend. We never had any actual classes together until this semester and now I'm not so sure I'd like to work with her again. She's chronically late, very forgetful, and last-minute night before projects are basically how she runs her life (I take every effort not pull all-nighters). She bashes the program constantly too, which doesn't help. Calling me last year and asking me questions about important due dates and other things wasn't a problem, but now it's getting old, and going into our last semester I think we should all be more on top of things at this point. I guess I didn't know how bad things were until I was actually paired up in a group with her. So now that I know for a fact she will be in 2 of my lectures, how do you say I don't want to work with you/work on projects with you/carpool with you to clinicals without ruining the friendship? (We don't hang out together outside of school, so it's more or less a close acquaintance) People also tend to avoid her as well so I know I'll be the first she's going to run to when we need to pair up. Thanx
