ANY one know of a school where I can go from ADN to Nurse practitioner?
I have looked into University of Cincinnati, they have an ADN to NP program. They require some classes but you don't have to get your BSN. I think Xavier also has a ADN to masters program, but I'm not sure how it works.

I need help to succeed in nursing school
Hi Cindy 17! I too am now a second(and final) year student! It is tough! It sounds like you are on the right track with your studying habits. I've noticed that the questions that they give us for tests are similar to nclex, yet they make them confusing by using horrible wording. Not sure if that's the same for you or not. Never over analyze a question.:) I've been using saunders nclex review books, questions in the textbook and on the cd-rom that come with them. We use the Elsevier Evolve system and they have online question banks also. Another thing is to ask your instructor what you could do to improve, or what there strategy is for exams. lol If they'll tell you! Always watch for what they emphasize in lecture. I hope this helps. Good Luck to you!

help with care plan
Hi, well I'm a student like you, but I'll try to help. First off, do you have a care plan book? If not, I like ours which is: Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: An evidence-Based Guide to Planning Care, By Ackley and Ladwig, 8th edition. Next, I don't know much about your pt. I was told to think about what exactly is the problem that is keeping my pt. in the hospital/LTC. Then choose my diagnosis appropriately. I looked in my book and I did not see a Risk for DVWR, I did see DVWR. There are mild, moderate, and severe defining characteristics. Check those and figure out what pertains to your pt. There are also physiological, psychological and situational Related factors. And then your interventions and rationales. A care plan book would really help. I wouldn't know what to do without mine. I don't know if any of this helps, and I can't do much more without details. Take a look at some of the other posts about care plans on here. We have an awesome group here who have posted about them in great detail. It will give u a good idea on how to write a good care plan. Good luck!

unbelievable... in today's world
I'm working as a Phlebotomist at a busy clinic while I attend nursing school. At our facility it is a HUGE no no to draw blood without gloves. We could aquire a giant fine from our laboratory licensing body, the College of American Pathologists. While we Can feel for veins without gloves, once you have a needle or tube in your hand you must have gloves on. It is not just knowing anatomy, I have plenty of patients that are very hard sticks. Cancer patients, Transplant pts, etc , sometimes can be almost impossible unless you have very sensitive and experienced hands. Although sometimes we have to get creative and you definetly Do need to know your anatomy!

Shaved Mons - Phenomenon
True Gila. It may come back. They say the best candidates have sporifice coverage from the beginning. I guess you just go back till it doesn't come back.lol otherwise it could look kinda tufty.lol I'm hoping it works for me. I got time for them to improve their technique. lol at unit and area. Being pregnant and trying to landscape was hard. Being a pretzel made me tired.

Shaved Mons - Phenomenon
I've just started nursing school so I guess I'll be seeing (or not seeing) for myself in a few quarters. lol Actually I have a friend who had it all lasered. It is pricey, but worth it apparently. Never shave again! Or Wax. lol Sooo, one thing that's on my "I've graduated and have money now list" is Laser! Can't wait for the freedom. lol:D

I am officially a Student Nurse! lol We started the 16th and our first exam is monday! I'm very excited and nervous to see how well I'll do. It seems like I've done nothing but read my fundamentals book for three weeks. lol We started clinicals this past week and WOW paperwork galore! So far I really like it. Being here on allnurses has really prepared me for the long road ahead. So Break A Leg everybody and study hard!

How to help fearful/anxious patients
I'm a NS and working as a Phlebotomist at a very busy clinic. I've noticed that Pt.'s that are very nervous respond well to a no-nonsense kind of confidence. I really have to gauge each Pt's level of anxiety. Some are easier to read than others. If I've noticed any fear I always ask because the quiet ones will need the reclining chair! Most of the time if I can get them talking about themselves (hobby, nice shirt, etc.) or the weather it relaxes them somewhat. That and the "this is how it's going to be" type of confidence usually work together nicely. Now I better not miss! Not exactly the same setting, but hope it helps. :nuke: Also, I sometimes ask exactly WHAT or Why they are afraid. Gives me a chance to educate and sometimes it really works. Every Pt is different. lol
