  1. i knew i wanted to do nicu before i started nursing school, and now i am in my first yr as a rn, and working in the nicu. i totally love it too!
  2. If you guys are comfortable I would love to exchange email addresses, so we can talk via email! I have shadowed in the NICU a few times, and had a wonderful clinical instructor who has worked in the NICU for 20 yrs so she brought in some UAC lines, and other sorts of things, and showed me how they worked...although, just thinking about how much I don't know may be giving me an ulcer lol. I am on orientation with the feeders and growers until January (level 2), then once we are competent with the 2s we go back to orientation for the level 3 babies. Hope you guys are enjoying your summer, and can't wait to hear from you again!
  3. That's such a good idea! I start August 10th, but I don't actually go in to the NICU until the 20th, and we're shadowing that day, and then the third week we jump in with classroom stuff, and working on the unit! I am so excited, but I have never worked in the NICU, and am really nervous about the learning curve. I have been trying to read up a little, but haven't had much time. What are your schedules like?
  4. I am also in the same boat! I am excited, but so nervous to start as well!
  5. I had 75 questions (I passed), in total with 6 SATA, 2 drag and drop, the rest seemed to be meds and priority.
  6. The "trick" worked for me, my license was posted this morning! i was able to try the trick two hours after my exam was over. Good luck everyone!
  7. Don't worry too much about the scores. If you think you're ready, and you go in with confidence you will be fine. Just trust yourself, and your answers. I just took mine yesterday, and now I know what everyone means by no matter what you're never going to think you've done quite enough. So is two more weeks going to make a difference if you've been studying consistently--most likely not. Good Luck!!!
  8. thanks, that was a great story! My state is not a quick state, but apparently they get posted pretty quickly. My license is pending on my board of nursing site, so we'll see. I left Pearson and cried for at least three hours. I had 75 questions, and I finished in 50 minutes. When I clicked, and it went to the blank screen, and I almost melted right out of my chair!!! I will keep you updated when I find out.
  9. thanks everyone, i hope you're right...keeping my fingers crossed! :icon_roll
  10. I took my NCLEX at 8 am this morning. Left pearson bawling, came home and checked Pearson, and it says delivery successful. I tried to reregister, and got the popup which says our records indicate that youhave recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your member board for further resistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time. Is this the good message? I honestly think I have PTSD from that exam, plus now I think I'm having runs of v.tach from stress!!! Also, is it just too early to check?
  11. nicu, and yes that is/was my first choice. In a few years I want to go back to get my NNP. Congrats to all recent grads!
  12. I am coming from no experience in long term care except for my first clinical in school, and have no experience as a RN, as I just graduated. From my POV it definitely is inconvenient for family members to stay over, but some of my favorite times when I was little was sleeping over my grandparents house. If this was not possible because my grandparents were in a facility I would have missed out on a ton. Maybe the facility could allow the child to stay once in a blue moon if rules were established and the family didn't take advantage of it. I could be wrong though as I don't have experience- it's just a shame that grandparents and grandkids miss out on so many great memories when in LTC, BUT I totally understand that is is not the RNs responsibility to babysit!
  13. *The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan- About a mother with breast cancer, and maturing as she deals with cancer---very good book! *Emma and Me by Elizabeth Flock- One of my favorite books. *Anything (and I mean Anything) by Jodi Piccoult My fav by her was The Pact which was sort of a modern take on Romeo and Juliet with legal drama added in to it. *Anything by Penny Vincenzi- She has a set of books out that starts with Into Temptation, Something Dangerous, and Almost a Crime that were very good. *The Lovely Bones: Alice Sebold I've read so much. As soon as the semester is over I start reading- right now I'm reading Mary Alice Monroe, Time is A River.
  14. I just took my HESI, and scored fairly well (in the 900s). I just did a lot of questions beforehand, and I was ok. Good Luck!
  15. I would first start with talking to the Professor, and state that the first half of the group should have the oppurtunity to get 2 extra points. If that doesn't go anywhere I would go to the chair of the nursing program. I agree it is not fair to only have that oppurtunity for one half of the class. Good luck.
