Aiken Regional Medical Center
ARMC pays the same for both ASN and BSN. Most hospitals in SC do from what I have seen. Do not hold me to it, but I believe the starting pay for new RN is around $22.00 plus diferentials. ARMC provides and evening and night differential. Evening after 1400 and night after 2200. With the changes in the economy things may have changed since I left the area. Your best bet is to contact thier nurse recruiter.

Care plan help with nursing DX questions!! =)
Do you have a nursing diagnosis handbook. We were required to purchase one before classes started. If you read the "How to Use This Book" section it will really speed up the process for you. For example in the front of my book is a section listing various medical diagnosis. (the patients chart should have a admiting diagnosis on the face sheet). Look up this diagnosis and it will list various Nursing Diagnosis associated with this Medical Diagnosis (they are different, your instructors will beat this into your head). Then flip to that nursing diagnosis in the book. It will list "defining characteristics" for example the deginig characteristics for Ineffective Denial are Delays seeking or refuses health care attention to the detriment of health; does not percieve personal relevance of symtoms or danger; displaces source of symptoms to other organs ......... If you can see actual references to these defining characteristics on your patients chart boom there you go. If the book doesnt have that medical diagnosis. Look for something similar and work from there. Remeber P R I O R I TY when you list your diagnosis put the ones that will kill your patient/disable your patient first. Actual diagnosis before potential diagnosis. Impaired skin integrity secondary to incontience At risk for social isolation Then you run into isues of maslow ........ Your instructors can handle all that. Good luck, study hard!

Yes I got in now questions...
Study up on your drug math. The math is easy but some of the rules are different (pediatrics, geriatrics, etc.). Go to the college book store and see what book they use. Other things like mixing insulin and most of the books have lots of drug labels in them. Getting familiar with looking for experation dates, concentrations, reconstitution etc. will put you ahead of the curve.

Can You Please Give Me Info On Myrtle Beach/ Charleston/ Florence Area Hospitals?
http://www.llr.state.sc.us/pol/nursing/index.asp?file=licensure.htm This is the website with links to licensure applications. Ohio is not a member of the Nursing Compact. To bad would have made it much easier for you to transfer your license. In SC all licensing is handled by LLR (labor licensing and regulation). Hope this helps.

Aiken Regional Medical Center
I recently left the Aiken area. I worked EMS there for 5 years and completed nursing school at Aiken Tech. There has been alot of turnover recently in ARMC ER. The nurse manager in the ER is new roughly 1.5 years now as the manager. The core has stayed the same. Draw your own conclusions from that. If you are looking at Ft Gordon for you husband please be aware there are many other hospitals in the area. The Medical College of Georgia is a lvl 1 trama center and is in Augusta GA. Also University Hospital, Doctors hospital (regional burn center) and another hospital that just changed names dont know thier new name. Finally, there is a VA hospital as well. MCG, university and the VA are all within blocks of each other. Aiken is the only hospital in SC in the area. SC is a member of the nursing compact so very easy to get licensure if your already in a compact state. GA is not a member and can be a bit of a pain to get licensure from what I have heard (I am not licensed in GA). Last I heard University had the best sign on bonuses. Aiken had the highest pay and differentials. MCG best benefits. This may have changed check them out for yourself. Good luck with your move and take care.

Stool sample for Micro class?????
I took micro for my first degree (thank goodness it transfered). Anywho we were sent to the rest room with a swab to collect our own fecal swab during class. Talk about a room full of freaked out folks as none of us were headed to the medical field at that time.

Do you carry liability insurance?
The facility being responsible for the employee is refered to as Respondeat superior. The common-law doctrine of respondeat superior was established in seventeenth-century England to define the legal liability of an employer for the actions of an employee. The doctrine was adopted in the United States and has been a fixture of agency law. It provides a better chance for an injured party to actually recover damages, because under respondeat superior the employer is liable for the injuries caused by an employee who is working within the scope of his employment relationship. http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/respondeat%20superior However, do not think that your employer wont dumb any liability on you. If you didnt dot that i or cross that t, bam youre the defendant.

I Want to do Dialysis Nursing: NEED ADVICE!!
Two of my classmates went to work in free standing dialysis clinics straight from school. The national company is sending them to classes and seminars to become certified in the specialty. If thats what you want to do, go for it. Good luck.

I have a BS in Business, should I go for BSN or ADN?
I have a BS in education. I just completed my Associates in nursing. I chose this route because it was less exspensive. Also, there were no acclerated programs locally. The BSN program wanted me to take lots of courses over (no thanks). There was a BS to MSN program about an hour away, but it was the first year of the program. I didnt want to be the lab rat. I have two children both born while i was in school. Im dad by the way. First child as i finished some prereqs and the second in my last semester. I worked part time for EMS during school (24 to 36 hours every weekend). My wife worked 60 hour weeks (closer to 40 hours by the time I finished school). If you have a good support system and a spouse willing to help out you should do fine. Im not saying it will be easy. I dont know if this will help you to decide which program to choose, but it lets you know that what ever you choose you can do it. (where did I put that English text). Good luck blueferral RN

What do I need know before my doctor gives me a vaccine?
Looks like one of those money making sites to me. They have a program that grabs articles with key words. It places them on thier page along with tons of money generating adds. I prefer to use sites from academic/government institutions. Good luck in your search. ps if it says updated daily and donesnt have an last updated tag at the bottom of the page I dont believe them.

I got a D
I just graduated. RULE #1: never, ever change your answer Rule #2: see rule #1 I had members of my cohort fail out due to changing thier answers. If possible before each test I would take 15 min and just walk around the hallways doing deep breathing exercises. Clears your mind and keeps you away from all the other students that are pontificating on the difficulty of the upcoming test. Also, if you don't have to wear a uniform, wear a red or yellow shirt/jacket etc. I cant quote you the study but I read somewhere that these colors stimulate thinking (and hunger). Also, avoid the caffine and try to get some protien in before the test (I would have an egg and cheese biscut myself). Anywho good luck in school, study hard youll do well. Oh yea read those silly how to use this book section in the text books (especially nanda) will save you hours in the long run. Blueferral RN

Asian Student in the South
I would take the chance on school in the south if I were you. I am not asian, however many of my co workers are/were. In a previous job a coworker was of korean ancestory (2nd generation) he had no problems at all. He was dating the good looking administrative assistant. (not a hospital job). Another fellow was a contract nurse in the ED. He was nominated for employee of the year (worked his tail off). He was in the process of talking his fiance into moving to South Carolina from CA. He realized that southerns may be predjudiced against (insert minority) but hey Joe he is ok. He also is aware that he and his fiance will have a much better chance of buying a home in the south than in CA. Im not origanlly from the south. I am here to stay. Southerners have problems just like every other part of the country. Hehe I guess they get stereotyped as well. Anywho, I think if your willing to take the chance and come to the "South" you will be plesantly suprised. Good luck in school. Blueferral RN

Stuck with needle
the centers for disease control and prevention published guidelines for post exposure prophylaxis for occupational exposure for the first time june 7, 1996. the most current revision is dated june 29, 2001 and can be viewed at www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5011a1.htm that is a place to start. however, i am sure your facility has procedures in place concerning blood born pathogens (its the law, they had better). talk to your supervisor. blueferral rn
