  1. Absolutely amazing that South FL is paying so low too. I just took an incredibly easy job at $12.00/hr. in north central FL recently. My lowest pay since coming to FL in 2000. I've worked around the Gainesville, Lake City, Ocala areas from 12.14 (elementary nurse) to 21.50 (agency staffing SNF)
  2. [. We are looking at moving into the area of Dade City/Zephyrhills area. I love it there and can't wait to move but I have to find a job there. . Ohh it's lovely around there. There is a State Prison in Zephyrhills (Zephrhills Correctional Facility), that I have heard is paying more ($20.) than other LPN State jobs ($14.). Due to the demand for nurses in that area. I did a few shifts there coming in as agency and wasn't bad at all. I think you can get to the state agency job listings through myflorida.com Best of Luck to ya
  3. Where is the IV class? How long is it? IMO there is a great hospice in Largo if U don't mind the drive, they will also after a year of employment help U with the RN schooling costs!! I worked agency for them (living in North FL) and was driving down (staying) and doing a couple of shifts each week last spring/summer, and loved it though it isn't/wasn't practical now.
  4. :balloons: Congrats to ya'll for making it through classes. C'MON my nursing sisters, U CAN DO THIS!!!! The hardest part IMO is over
  5. Been LPN since 86'. Dropped out of the nursing for a few years (2000-2004)but came back due to the pay believe it or not. (Even here in FL :chuckle ) I personally feel it is too late or I am too lazy to go back to school and if I did it wouldn't be in nursing, unless it was an animal nursing . I regret not finishing my RN when I started (86') but I LOVE my LPN job...
  6. Wow I would think that would be a hard chew, but sure it could be done if you have an exceptional memory. My thoughts would be to get ahold of any and all PN books I could, and all the review books for any state exams. You need to concentrate on everything cause they question lots but hit some things harder than others. Good luck to you
  7. I will take a moment now and say thank u, for all u do.. Been there and done that myself and understand the attitude.. Now someone please tell me why direct care workers restrict fluids in the thinking they will have less to clean up???? Do they truly not understand what they are doing to the body??? It happens all too frequently everywhere. I guess that is MY biggest pet peeve...

Try Shands of Jacksonville. Never worked there but they are the premiere Hospital imo. As far as living I would think Orange Park though no beachfront
  9. Wow what a tread!! Thanks my heart has been lifted. I recently had run in with physical threats but decided to look the other way not wanting her to get fired (no violence workplace); but than the lil t--- tried to get me fired, saying I was at fault. This has been happening for a week and yesterday I made a med error (stressed I am thinking and mind not on what it should of been.) I decided today that I couldn't work under such conditions and taking such risks with my patients and license, I told my admin. I was quitting. She was aware of the situation by the lil t--- (who told lies on me) and others that told their story (which put her in the wrong). I was told, "WE can't loose you! She's off the schedule." I feel bad for the girl BUT lines and actions were crossed for days..
  10. Graduated in 86'.. Still searching for my "true" love. Did a few years LTC (old love). Short stint in Hosp. Med/Surg (ickkk) Did some mental health (it was OK) than MR/DD (currently on my 2nd go around) but found a special love in hospice. Opps forgot the corrections! Loved all of them at one time or another except the med/surg. Need to get back to agency work I think ;O), that way I can feel more rounded working all the areas that are special.
  11. Wow and I "GROWL" about $14. as an LPN... Really not doing much work at all either for that. If you are thinking of Gainesville, I know Tacachale (DD/MR) begs for RN's and with state benefits. The last I think I heard was 30,000/year but not a work overload job either.
  12. What a nightmare that topic is in my books!! :angryfire I graduated 3 years after my convictions which was 20 years ago... Several stupid mistakes but several State BON have decided I have paid my debt (TY) unfairly IMO though some jobs don't :uhoh21: . Awww but that's their lose in my book.. :rotfl: TELL the TRUTH

  14. Hellooo and Happy Holidays!!! There is a few state instutions and U can probably find them at myflorida.com looking under employment. Though the state places generally hire only RN but use Pool LPN's (????) :rotfl: I am currently working for ResCare http://www.rescare.com and they have "clusters" of dd group homes in fl and many other states that require more medical care than the normal group homes. Though the benefits and pay are lacking severely, compared to the state plans, I love my clients and job!

  16. Don't know about the panhandle, but agency jobs in "Greater" FL starts at $20.00 generally depending on job. Hospice pays around $16.00. Baylor at Nursing homes hires will generally be $19. - $20. Regular Nursing homes are starting at $15.00 and up. Corrections (State) have started OPS positions where they are paying $21. with no benefits. Have no idea about hosptials they are few and far between. :balloons: Good Luck!
  17. I had this conversation recently with a Correctional Officer at a Prison. She felt they shouldn't have to work. Huh? Well if the job is good enough to do in the sunshine, it needs to be good enough when it rains too. I am aghast at nurses thinking they shouldn't have to work. I remember the night Frances (tropical storm) came to visit clearly my relief called and said she didn't think she could make it in. (Very small place) I plainly told her oh no U need to come, cause I have done my 8 and it is time for me to go home. I have family I need to get too! Was I wrong? Heck No, I did what I was suppose to do, though I wouldn't come in when I was on vacation (my time.) :chuckle
  18. Does anyone know of an IV certification class in the Gainesville area? Will they also teach how to draw blood? Being a new LPN to Florida, and never being permitted to perform this; I want a class first.
  19. [i have an interview with a LTC facility at the end of this month for possible relocation to the Gainesville area. So any info would be appreciated. As far as I can tell from posts I have read the RN pay seems to be about the same as here. LPN I'm unsure. I currently make $15.18 I need something to compare that too. Thanks! smjlpn I work agency from St Pete to Gainesville. $20. at LTC. Was offered job by agency to staff "permanent" LTC facility at $20. (I declined) LTC on the east side of St Pete were paying $20. for perdiem. Seems like some of the LTC are starting to offer sign on for the LPN's. Around Gainesville I am hearing it ranges from $12.00-$15.00 Are U willing to do Hospice? Hospice of the FL Suncoast (Largo) after a year of employment offer to pay for schooling LPN-RN. They have great benefits and really a great place to work IMO and I was just agency :) . Though wages are lower but for the benefits and the environment it might be well worth it! I was quoted a county correctional job at $11.78 an hour Another correctional job OPS for State at $21.
  20. When's the next class?
  21. Hi Sunhill, welcome to FL!! Just seen a job advertised in Punta Gorda at the Charlotte Regional Hosp for a charge RN in the Psych depart. Sign on was $5,000. An LPN here, and can honestly say I love the 12 hour shifts! Your work week is over pretty fast instead of the grueling 8 x 5, 3 days a week and 4 to play instead... :chuckle
  22. Does anyone know where I can easily assess a copy of this? Also need to know where an LPN IV Certification course is that is the best in north-central FL? Thanks! :kiss
  23. Hey Mickie, mine went surprisingly fast though I don't know if it was due to my already living here or not. School transcripts/prior BON all come into play. Just make sure U send everything certified. LOL I had my "official" license within a 5 weeks and my goodness the State of Fl does send out such nice certificates. I have been commuting to Tampa/St Pete area and making $16.00 with Hospice (12 hour shifts), and $20.00 doing corrections, $20.00 doing nursing homes (8 hours). Around Ocala and Gainesville I make $20 in the nursing homes and corrections. Of course all these are agency gigs, but I love to pick up own schedule. I know Gainesville has a State Institution for the DD and another in Ft. Meyers, another somewhere around Miami. As for the private sector of DD, not really using LPN's that I have found, they have the med-aides doing that under RN supervision.
  24. Plenty of nursing opportunties in that for sure. But being State the pay is low.......
  25. Yes Maxim has travel nurses but don't know if they have office in Jacksonville.
