Personally, I will mix a little sterile water in with the D50 solution in order to make it easier to push in and cause D50 is so harsh on the veins.

Wow, first let me say congrats to everyone who will be starting the nursing program in the summer. I am a current nursing student @ USA and I will say it is going to be hard and stressful, but also fun and entertaining. Hmm, of the things I have heard on here 1. Yes, we will be in the new building! I am kind of excited, but will miss being at SHAC. 2. Don't know your incoming schedule, but if you guys are taking Health Assessment, Pharm and Patho it will be a pretty good first semester. Dr. Vanderwaa teaches Pharm and Patho. She is awesome and you will really enjoy her classes. I will say that buying the books for those two classes are not necessary. Print her notes, go to class and you have all the information you need. Health Assessment is taught by different instructors. Lots of information will be covered and I am sure since it is summer it will be fast paced. Remember to review the book and your notes. Keep up on all the material!! Don't put off studying til last minute or it will not be pretty! Once again, congrats to all of you and welcome to the USA Nursing Family!

I have a question, more a debate. As an exercise physiologist, I was told by a fellow collague that if you have a patient with a pacemaker that you can place the lead on the patient's scapulae and get the same results. The same with the lower limb leads and his or her pants to high and you can't get where you need, you can place those leads on the sides of the spine. He said, technically it is not correct, but it will not adversely effect the outcome. My question is how accurate is this? And if this is okay where is the literature to support it? and finally, will it effect the ECG outcomes? I appreciate all help on this! (Sorry, if it sounds crazy, but writing fast)!

I was re-reading my post and realized that was confusing. The first part I should have mentioned that is if you currently are working for Infirmary. The scholarship you are talking about "Infirmary Alliance for Registered Nurses Training", was the link I was talking about. It is only for Bishop State, but you are right they do pay for everything. Sorry, I should have been clearer!

Well, I had my first test today. It was not what I was expecting and I did not do as well as I thought I did (a D+) First, it was an electronic test in which you could not go back and review your answers, I guess to get us ready for what it is like to take the NCLEX. I am horrible at test like this. I am use to taking my exam and then going back on ones I was not sure about and really taking my time to think about those. I don't know. I studied pretty well. I read the notes, reviewed chapters and still....I sucked. I guess I will have to work harder...or quit and do something different. I guess I am venting. Ugh! Well, back to studying.

Infirmary Health System will pay up to a certain amount for tuition reimbursement, however for each semester you receive the reimbursement you have to promise to work for the system one year. They also have a program for people looking to be a RN. Go to http://www.mimc.com and look under careers and there is a section labeled "Infirmary Alliance for Registered Nurse Training" that will give you more information. Hope that helps and good luck.

I am officially done with day two. I started to think "What the hell am I thinking." The schedules and syllabus are scary but as my co-worker said, "Take it one day at a time." and I shall. Lots and lots of reading (yeah, I know that is to be expected). We have to print out our own handouts (my poor printer), we have a media site with additional lectures we are required to view, and of course go to class and study outside of class. So far, it has not been horrible. I have a little bit of an advantage in some areas because of my previous schooling and work experience, but in no way will I be slacking off. I am determined to finish this with the best grades possible, but I am reminded. A "C" equals RN! Glad to hear that everyone else first days are going alright/good. Take care.

where are you attending: the university of south alabama when does your program start: january 12th (?) when are your orientation(s): january 9th what is your 1st semester schedule: nu 325 - health assessment nu 327 - patho basis of nursing hsc 343 - clinical pharmacology hsc 342 - administration of meds nu 300 - foundations of professional nursing nu 301 - clinical how are you preparing yourself and/or family: i am spending as much time as i can with family and friends cause i am told i will have no life once i begin. other than that just keep working will you be working fulltime/parttime/not at all: i will be working part-time to keep my health insurance and to make sure i can pay my car note every month

OMG.....I got a call today from the nursing school. A few people decided to decline and I have been officially offered a seat in the nursing school. I AM IN!!!! I went to the school and signed all of my paperwork. I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to the mailbox today and was excited to see my letter from nursing school had finally arrived. I opened it and found out I'm on the waiting list. It was not a complete rejection, but now I have to wait and see if someone decides to drop out of the program. I'm not completely bummed, I think I am just frustrated. Off to have a glass of wine.

It has been forever since I have been able to come in and read everyone's comments. But, I wanted to say Congratulations to everyone who has gotten in. And for those of us still waiting I will definitely say a prayer for all of us. ::clpty:: :balloons::

i am feeling your pain. i keep waiting and checking the computer and waiting. i was told letters will be mailed mid october to beginning of november. and congrats to jamaicannurse2b for acceptance into nursing school!!!

I agree with Elvish, it just depends on where you work. I have worked at places that don't care what you wear as long as they are scrubs and as long as nothing is hanging out! Lately, most of the hospital systems are going to specific colors depending on your dept (nurses-navy blue, respiratory-olive green, PT/OT-maroon, etc.). As long as you wear the designated color most don't care about the style of the scrubs (flare legs, cargo pants, etc) so you can still express some personal style within the rules!

I hate studying in quiet so I use my mp3 player. to stay motivated and alert. The only thing I would say about that is don't pick songs you are going to want to sing and dance to and forget about studying :-)

I love my Littmann Master Cardiology stethoscope. And it is stealth (all black). I bought that one because no one has that type of stethoscope in the cardiac rehab program I work at. I liked my Prestige Clinical I stethoscope. Worked very well in clinic and was lightweight, but I received the Master Cardiology when I graduated from the Master degree Exercise Physiology program. And of course the color was......STEALTH! Did I mention I LOVE :redbeathe the all black stetho!
