  1. Hello, I finished LPN school in August 2008.. My 1st job was at a nursing home making 20.00 an hour where you work 3/12s and get paid for 40. I thought I can put up with anything for 3 days a week. Boy how wrong was I.. LOL You have to be careful of jobs that offer perks like that, they do it for a reason. I wound up quitting that job just after 2 months, I then went to my second job at a nursing home and I kept being sent home because they did not have a lot of patients, I then went to another nursing home mon-fri, this 2 did not work. So since I graduated from nursing school I am currently at my 4th job. I now work for the state as a nurse, I work in mental health out in the community and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I guess I am just trying to say keep looking until you find something you like. I think conditions for nurses are so bad in nursing homes and other places is because people don't quit. They stay and put up with crap until they are broken both mentally and physically. PLEASE don't quit until you find another job but keep looking and eventually you will find what your are looking for. If it is possible look for a job with a union... I think it makes a huge difference. Good LUCK :)
  2. I am not sure if you tried this, but I love Susans plan. I plan to use it for RN. It really works!!! There is no way you can learn everything and study every thing you just have to learn how to answer the questions, she helps!!! I passed with 85 questions LPN and so did everyone else who followed her plan even the people in my class who struggled in school. Read the thread and follow Susan's plan exactly and you should pass. I hope this helps :)
  3. Hello, here is my problem. I am working as a customer service rep at a great company, paying 16.50 an hour working 3rd shift and I have all the time in the world there to study there at night. The problem is the LPN to RN bridge program at the local college requires me to work one year full time as a LPN before I can enroll. The question is should I just apply as a new student and skip the bridge program? I feel the only reason I was able to pass LPN program was because I had so much free time to study at my current customer service job, because it is so slow at night. Working as a LPN, I have heard horror stories about working in LTC and not having any time to even sit down. Just wanted some input... Any advice would be helpful!! I would love to find a job at a hospital but they are only hiring in the nursing homes in my area!
  4. I just finished the Tri c program LPN, the only concern that I have with a lot of the smaller schools is if your credits will transfer to another school should you want to become an RN. If you go to tri c or anther community college, then you will have most of your pre reqs finished and you know they will transfer. Hope my 2 cents helped :)
  5. Hello, I took my nclex on 12/18 and it cut off on 85 questions. I know that everyone says that the feel as though they have failed the first time, but I am really tripping. All I could do is when I was done is drive to the strip mall parking lot and try and get my composure for about 45 minutes. I am trying not to think about it, yet it is all that I can do. My goal is to start the bridge program, I really want to become an RN. If by the grace of God I do pass, I have to go through this nclex again.
  6. Please everyone keep me in you prayers, I to have to take the nclex pn... Please pray for me and I will pray for all of you. God Bless!
  7. The way I feel about it is that you have to work until like what, 70? So you can keep doing the same thing for another 30 yrs or try nursing. With nursing you have to option for job security, a flexible schedule, and a decent wage. Good luck
  8. Hi, have you thought about lpn? Most programs are around 1 year and LPNs have to work under a RN. This might help you to build up your confidence and If you want to continue then you can take a bridge program to become a RN. Just my 2 cents. School is hard, but that is what makes it feel so good when you finish!! I just graduated and I still feel like this sometime. I am also a LPN. Good luck with everything!!
  9. I am a recent grad and I have not started working yet. I ran in to a few female characters in clinicals. But what I want to know is why are some nurses so mean? Do you think it is the stress, being over worked and under paid? Most of the male nurses are laid back. PS I am a female. But I was just wondering if it was maybe just a female thing. The mean girl syndrome or something...
  10. hey, congrats on passing... what did you use to pass.
  11. I agree 100%... I plan on doing 5 years to get experience and then going into administrative nursing. I feel any more than that and you will be broken down.
  12. I have 2 quick questions.. How much does it cost and is it for lpn or rn? thanks
  13. I am a new lPN grad and the program is not as easy as people think. The best advice I can give is to stay on top of things and don't fall behind because it moves very fast... Use your resources like teachers and study groups. Another good tool is saunders nclex book the comprehensive one. We had so much information in the big books that they assign you it it is hard to distinguish what is really important to pass the test. This books breaks it down to the need to know part. You still need to read your text book, but this will break down each system for you and help you understand the rationals. Hope this helps and good luck.
  14. I just finished LPN school in August and the math really is not that bad.. The best way to learn is to practice the dosage calculations in the dosage books and you will be fine. Good luck!!
