Shift Types
If an 8 hr shift is 4 on 2 off, that's only 32 hrs. Should the pay be more than normal, or is this just considered part time? What if it's rotating, I'm confused by all this.

Still No ATT
Well, they cashed my $150 check back in March. I'm supposed to pay the other fee when I get my ATT, they also did receive all paperwork, it was all sent certified. I have called 4 times over the last month, and always get frustrated and hang up after hearing a 6 hour wait time ! Just waiting.

Foley Catheter issues - yikes!
In clinicals yesterday in the ED, I had opportunity to insert 4 foleys. They were all on ladies who were older 70s. Finding the darn urethra was quite a chore - even for the nurse with me. Anyone have any good tips to locate? We kept getting into the lady parts and it would curl back out ! Holy Ike !

Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012
I believe we used to call it, " adulthood", or maybe it was, "personal responsibility", I can't remember which.

Counting Respirations
while taking the radial pulse, place pts hand on his chest, then after counting the pulse for 15 or 30, then count the resps for the 15 or 30. That way, the pt thinks your doing pulse, but you really are doing both. Make sense? we count ea of the above for 15 seconds then multiply by 4 or 30 x 2, but if the resps are off or wierd in any way, then the full minute.

ICU clinical troubles
Hey, all. ICU clinicals are not going well for me. I am having issues with prioritizing and with speed. I cant seem to stay on 'time' with two patients! My nurse told me to get more organized, i do have a brain sheet, but Im thinking its too 'busy' for ICU, too much detail. I don't know. I just know I had a horrible day and felt like a failure. My nurse wasn't much of a help to me, either. Excellent ICU nurse, teacher-not so much. Thanks for letting me vent. Just feeling slow and inadequate.

nursing math question
asking for micro gtt / min so start with gtt 60 gtt 500 mL 1 mg 2 mcg 60, 000 _______ X _______ X ________ X ______ = _________ = 60 gtt / min 1 mL 1 mg 1000 mcg 1 min 1,000 cross cancel mL - mg - mcg ...... leaves you with gtt / min always start with what you're looking for : gtt/min ,first, top, is gtt - then plug in your #s to match the bottom up - ml - ml mg -mg etc... does that make sense? I love using the dimensional analysis because it just makes sense to me, takes an extra minute to write it out, but I like it.

Can you solve this drug calculation?
Doing the D/H x V 0.1 mcg/25mg x 100 mL got me 0.4 is that wrong??? not even sure I set it up right

Someone, throw me out a life jacket!!! What am I doing wrong?
Also, I found this is something that many students fail to do.... read the rationales for the questions you missed. you'll learn a lot , it's all about thinking it through, priorities, safety. You'll be fine no matter what !

OB careplan help please!!
Risk for: Imbalanced nutrition: less than body req r/t: fatigue, stress of new baby and living situation is she breastfeeding or bottle, could be something there for infection or inadequate milk, pain from childbirth, overfatigue from dealing with two instead of just one child, transportation or financial issues?

HTN, Vasoconstriction,hypotension, vasodilation
Think of when the body has blood loss, say to trauma or something... less blood = less O2 = less blood pressure through the body = higher heart rate ( compensatory mechanism) so you have hypotension and tachycardia. Also, with the above s/s you would get Shortness of breath or dyspnea r/t: Low O2 = weakness, yes? no energy to cells or brain, = no O2 = death high O2 = excess energy to all cells and brain = confusion, delerium, restlessness Does that make any sense to you? Hope so. good luck

Totally Mortified - Super High Blood Pressure @ Nursing Physical
Dream & Achieve, wow, yoga, meditation,... I tried that a couple of times and wow was I bored! I just didn't get it. Not for me at all. I know plenty of people who swear by it, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe another try later on. I'm still trying to find something that works for me. I like to walk after dinner. We live rural so it's a bit tough on dirt roads, no pavement. It still makes me a bit nervous to get the old heart rate up and going. I try to concentrate on the "toning" deal, you know? Anyway, just passed my first semesterl, Fundamentals HAPPY FOURTH !!!! Missy

Saying a Prayer
Find out if they are of a particular faith, if they give you the ole go ahead, go with what's in your heart. If they are of a faith that is foreign to you, I would suggest asking them to start and you could just follow along or do your own thing 'silently'. In these situations, my opinion, God respects you for helping that patient whatever their religion.

WHY.
Fundamentals is NOT the easiest! It is the hardest because you're not only learning HOW to study (this is not your typical physio class of memorization), but this is the foundation of your future. They throw everything at you now, then you have to learn to incorporate that info for various other situations (ob, peds, etc). Not to mention all the basic and advanced skills you need to learn and master. We were told that we would be lucky to get out of first semester with a C. As for the tests, oh, my... it's tough. As I said before, you cannot just get by with memorizing things, you NEED to know the WHYs of it all. If you dont understand why a lab is the way it is and what it means, how are you going to fix it? You can't. It's very tough. Prioritizing is also key because lives are on the line and you can make a patient more il if you fail to recognize or ignore a priority situation. Sorry so long. Whey they say Critical thinking, they mean it! It' s a whole new way of studying things and learning things. Once you get that concept down, you'll be Golden!!! Good Luck

Is Victor Valley College nursing a lottery draw???
VVC is a great nursing school. This fall will be my 2nd semester Nursing Process 2 of 4, and although there are rumors here and there about various issues and instruction issues, I have never experienced anything but very knowledgable and helpful instruction. Also, as far as accredidation goes, this happens every 8 years apparently, and this spring semester we had the BRN folks at the campus and it was basically a complaint session for those who aren't doing well, anyway, we have been accredited for another 8 years. I love my classes, they're tough, but it is a good school. People from all over socal come here because of the reputation and the pass rates. The teachers here really want you to succeed, and have been very available for students. Good luck!
