  1. Hello there, I am hoping to apply for the LPN program in the Spring 2010 semester. Does anyone have any idea when they will be putting them online? I checked the site and fall 2009 is still up. I tried to email and call an advisor and of course no one has gotten back to me. TIA
  2. I am in the same boat as you. Hopefully I will have it all together this time around. Good luck to us getting in :wink2:
  3. I am currently volunteering here with the hopes of someday getting a job. I have not been there long but I really like it. Do they allow volunteers to access the job database the same way they do the employees? If you dont mind me asking, how did you get your position once you established yourself as a volunteer? Did you go directly to HR?
  4. Do you think it matters what day and time you submit your application for the LPN program? Is it like a first come first served? I am applying in the Fall. I have heard some debate on hear that it didnt matter but others said it did.
  5. You can use the RSAA fingerprints and send them into DPS.. I will warn you that the people at RSAA usually are not experienced with fingerprinting and they may get rejected by DPS. As long as you paid your fee and sent them to dps with the DPS application you should be fine. (as long as your fingerprints are acceptable) The board of nursing requires seperate prints and application for your CNA license. You need DPS clearance card for the community college.
  6. Send in your DPS fingerprint clearance card now. The one that is done for your CNA has nothing to do with the DPS card you need for Gateway. It takes a while to get this through DPS and with budget cuts it will probably take them longer to process. I think you have time and this is totally doable. The exam for the CNA class is really close to when you finish the class. I did it through RSAA also. I am in the same spot you are and need to figure out when the Fall deadline will be. Good luck!
  7. Ditto on the previous posters. I spent a lot of money on extras. Although I did find the flash cards helpful. (for A&P) Also if you are going to gateway you can reserve anatomy models in the tutoring center. This helped me tremendously. When you do your tests on the anatomy, you will be looking at actual models so it helps to practice on them. I cant say much for chemistry as I had to drop it last semester because my workload was too much. From what I did get from the class it is a lot of conversions.
  8. LOL You sound like me my first time around in College. I avoided chemistry and biology but now they are some of my favorite classes. (okay biology but not chem) Which level bio are you taking? As for chem, I say brush up on your algebra skills. Maybe buy an older used text book and start looking through that.
  9. Maricopa needs a hospital so badly!!! Especially with that deadly highway 347. Hopefully it wont take too long.
  10. Anyone who is in this program, were you able to work at all? I am hoping to apply in September but I am not sure if I can swing it. If you did work: 1. Was it full time or part time? 2. What type of work did you do? Thanks for your help
  11. Thanks, I checked that website I was not sure if it was really accurate. Especially when one of the rating questions was "is this teacher hot?" If any one wants to PM me that is cool too.
  12. I will be taking Chem 130 in the Fall. I have not decided where to take it yet. I will either be attending Gateway, Phx College or Mesa CC. I tried taking this last fall but I had to drop it because my class load was too heavy and I didnt jive with my instructor. I am an evening student because I work full time during the day. So if you have an instructor that you love or that made it easier to learn chem, reccommend them. Thanks for your input
  13. The LPN application deadline is coming up. I heard that this is based on a lottery system. So no matter when or what day you turn in your application, you have the same chance as anyone. Is this true? I also heard that leftover apps from last semester are given spots first. Let me know what your experience was.
  14. Congrats!!! When did you apply for the program? I am getting ready to apply so I am trying to gauge when I might get in.
  15. You cannot volunteer to be a nurse. Because of insurance and liability reasons a hospital will not allow it. You can volunteer but you will not be doing work as an RN. But volunteering will at least keep you in a hospital setting and networking.
  16. I am hoping to apply in March for the LPN program at Gateway. I dont expect to be admitted for Fall but I would love to make it in for Spring 2010. (probably fat chance there too) I am wondering how long you had to wait, those of you already in the program and those who are currently waiting. I am also applying at EVIT but I think that I probably wont get in there either. But in the off chance I do, I dont want to start there and then be accepted to the Gateway LPN program the next semester. I prefer Gateway as a campus and they are much cheaper. Im open to any feedback you have on your experience. Thanks
  17. To be honest I had started this class through RIO and had to drop it. For me science classes are too hard online. I need the one on one interaction with the instructor and students. Overall I am very disappointed by the Rio Salado system. The instructors I have had give you no notes and never really answer your questions or give constructive feedback. It works for some classes but Chemistry is a little more involved.
  18. I need to get several immunizations. I need the hep B vaccine, tetorifice, etc. to apply for the LPN program. I am wondering where you may have gone to get yours and approximately how much you may have paid. Thanks for your help. P.S. I am an east valley resident so if you know of anywhere in the East Valley that would be great.
  19. Im not saying waiting is fair, but new RN grads need to set their expectations. People in healthcare have had an easy time looking for jobs. Times have changed. You have got to set your expectations and plan on taking new opportunities that may not be exactly what you want for now. The economy is cyclical. What goes down must come up and what is up must come down. I wish everyone luck. I am in the same boat most of you are. As for gaining new skills when you cant get hired, start taking classes for your BSN, take public speaking because it makes you more confident or volunteer.
  20. So are they hiring nurses in Mexico? just kidding. I hope it doesnt turn into people not getting care (illegal or not) I think this will turn around a bit. Although it will be slow going. It took a while to get into this mess and it will take a while to come out. One thing I have noticed is the amount of nursing students upset at waiting a month or two to find a job. I guess this is because they do not have a lot of work experience? I would like to say welcome to the rest of the world. Healthcare has enjoyed high demand for a while. In most industries the average wait to find a job is 2-3 months in a fair economy. We will get our turn at some point. Many of the older nurses will eventually retire or move onto less demanding positions. We just need to use this lull to gain new skills and training. Our time will come.

I am almost done at RSAA and I feel that I can now give my two cents. So they never got very organized. In fact they have lost a lot of peoples paperwork. The instructor left a lot to be desired. She would jump from topic to topic and never fully explain anything. Then when you ask questions she would talk down to you and make you feel bad for not understanding. (This was the opinion of many of my classmates.) Luckily the Nurse she had as a partner was really good, patient and helpful. Overall I think RSAA is a decent school. They are willing to work with you and help you. (the admin staff) I would avoid the weekend instructor.
  22. How long was your wait to get into the Gate Way LPN program? I talked to the advisor there and she said there were like 50 people carrying over from last semester and it might be a little bit of a wait. If you have any advice on getting the app turned in let me know. I had seen a few posts on here from people having trouble getting it in.
  23. I called them last week and they told me March. But you know how it is, the story changes daily. Do you know how to locate the app? I tried to find out how to get to the apps and I couldnt. I want to make sure that it is not out yet. I found it once before but it is so hard to navigate their website.
