  1. We use Rotoprone as well. While it does greatly improve oxygenation, I can't say with any confidence that it actually increasesa patient's chance of survival. Honestly, in the last 5 years, I have only seen one patient survive ARDS with help from the Rotoprone. This has been the worst flu season I have ever seen, and we have been using the Rotoprones fairly regularly this season. They have been so popular throughout the city (of Memphis) that we have actually had to place our patients on waiting lists for get a bed. Just last week, we had a patient wait for a week before we received a Rotoprone to place her on.
  2. I agree. I graduated from nursing school 2 years ago and have been working in MICU ever since. Back in January, I attended my first CCRN review with Dr Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio. She is amazing!! It's unbelievable how well she breaks it down. Her DVD set can be purchased on her website for $150. I highly recommend it. Excellent investment.
  3. I have clinical tomorrow and my patient has skeletal traction. Can anyone give me pointers or lead me in the direction to find information on pin site care?
  4. Can anyone give me some idea for a few nursing diagnoses for the manic patient I can use in my case study or maybe help with the ones I've already come up with? Risk for injury related to inablility to sleep Risk for violence: other-directed related to delusional thinking secondary to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  5. I have lived in Memphis all of my life (I'm 27 years old), and have never been one of those people that just NEEDED to leave. Yes, Memphis has alot of crime, but that's with any metro community. Don't let people scare you with their "looking over my shoulder" remarks. I work for Methodist, but not the University hospital. The only time I would be overly concerned about my safety is anytime I was leaving after sunset. But let me say, the hospital I work at is in what is considered an upscale suburb of Memphis, and I won't even walk to my car alone after dark there. So, once again, don't be frightened away from people who hate Memphis.
  6. My OCD used to control me...esp during times of stress, and nursing school is probably the most stressful thing I've ever been through. My advice....get on a pill. Specifically...get on something for anxiety. My first semester of nursing school I was totally stress out I made myself self. I started taking Lexapro, and the different between my first semester and the next semester was like night and day. I cope so much better now. You should talk to your PCP.
  7. Does anyone have or know where I could look for a diet shortcut/cheat sheet online or anywhere else? I need to brush up on my diets for the NCLEX.
  8. I have two semesters left of RN school and will then beging to complete my BSN. However, I'm trying to decide whether or not to pursue my BSN through an online program. Do CRNA schools frown upon online degrees?

  10. No, If the packet says add 10ml of diluent for make the concentration of 250mg/5ml, then you only need one packet. If 5ml is 250mg, then giving the full 10ml is 500mg as ordered by the physician.
  11. risk for decreased cardiac output related to abnormal cardiac functioning secondary to electrolyte imbalance
  12. Chronic Pain Altered elmination Altered nutrition: Less than body requirements Anxiety r/t hospitalization Regret/Depression r/t life choices
  13. Yes, the hospital I work for is currently phasing out LPNs. They don't even offer LPN programs here anymore. They are not requiring that all LPNs go back for their RN (not yet anyway), but they are no longer hiring anything less than an RN.
  14. I'm not sure how you can get a head start on Micro especially without already having a syllabus. Just read the textbook material that goes along with the lecture regardless of whether or not the instructor requires it. If you are offered any independent lab time, I would take advantage of it.
  15. I got an A in A&P I and II and Micro. You have to really want it. If you don't and you're just doing it for just SOMETHING to do....you're wasting your time.
