Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008
Hi Guys, been a long time since I posted here. I have had a very stressful few mths....FT student and have been taking care of a younger cousin who is terminally ill w/ a rare and very aggressive cervical cancer. She is 30 and unfortunately only has a few more wks to live as the cancer has attacked her liver and she is now in a stage 4. She now resides w/me and I have assumed all of her health needs. We have brought in Hope Hospice and her children have gone to live w/their Dad. Needless to say, I am still in school but have been struggling to keep up my grades between Dr's app and treatments, plus the surgeries and blood transfusions....she was diagnosed only 3 and a 1/2mths ago...right after I started school. I came out of Chem Lab w/an A...have a high B in Chem lecture but am struggling in A&P 1...I have a high C and am hoping to pull that to a B in the next 4wks....however, this is also Michele's critical time. My Prof are working w/me in all my classes....I have also struggled in my Respiratory class......again a very understanding Dr. teaching this class....and giving me extra time to complete projects. I have had a 4.0 since I started school (back after 30yrs) and although coming out of a couple classes w/a B or maybe even a C is very depressing for me, I have no choice but to follow my heart and continue doing what I am doing and that is taking care of Michele...after all, it is situations like this that we in the Health field will be faced w/down the road. I did want to touch base w/everyone since I originally started this thread and then disappeared.....it has been very trying and tiring this semester. I am studying the Brain this wk along w/the cranial nerves,etc.....anyone have any advice? I have an exam on Thurs and have been skimming the ppt's and going over my lab book but could use some added in put....Thanks and hope everyone is doing well.

Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008
ORnurse, I found the bones at Big Lots but Party City has them as well....these bones are not as fancy as the lab bones but they will do the trick. Any store carrying Halloween stuff should have them....Good Luck I agree, if you put an anwser down, don't change it unless you are absoulutely correct it is wrong...I'll sometimes mark an anwser and if I am unsure, I will put a small ? beside it and come back to it at the end of the exam....then I will review it in my head and only change the anwser if I am absolutely sure it's wrong. Our first quiz is next Tues...anatomical terms and tissues....I also have a Chem exam right before it....ugh! First respiratory exam in the am

Small Cell Carcinoma?
Thanks, I did ask many questions yesterday and this is what I now know. BACKGROUND. Small cell carcinoma of the cervix is a rare and aggressive tumor. Most gynecologic oncology centers have little experience with this tumor, and only small series have been published.CONCLUSIONS. Small cell carcinoma of the cervix is an aggressive tumor with a propensity for rapid recurrence; it is associated with high mortality. The cancer is thru-out her pelvic region and spots up thru to her breast...not in her liver or lungs yet....it is in the lymph nodes....we couldn't do the chemo yesterday...her white blood cell count was 0.6....so all chemo treatments were cancelled for the wk....she is to continue radiation and back for blood work on fri.....it is going to be a long haul.

Small Cell Carcinoma?
My 30 yr old female cousin was just diagnosed w/this....can anyone give me a little more info? This is what I know as of today...very rare type, spread from her breast to her pelvic...not in her liver but is in her lymph nodes. She found out 3 wks ago.....her prognosis is not good...Dr said 20-30% in most cases as this is very aggressive. She has had one wk of both chemo and radiation...I go w/her in the am to start her 2nd set of treaments....any information would be helpful....I'll be talking w/her Dr tomorrow but wanted to get a heads up if someone knew something...Thanks

Like Posh. we are doing tissues right now....looked at everything under the scope on Thurs...need to be able to identify these for our first exam. I'm pretty good w/it so far. Posh, pseudostratified has cilia....look for that when looking at the slide...we are doing 6 epithileium first, plus all the directional and regional terms. Looks like everyone is doing well so far.

Anybody buy a skeleton for A&P?
I bought a 5ft paper skeleton that hangs on the door for Halloween....it's a decoration, arms & legs move...paid $4 for it and it works well....I took strips of sticky notes and placed them thruout the body....I also bought a cheap bag of bones from a Halloween store....I plan on using some cheap kids paint to paint the areas I need to know....I have compared the bones and skeleton to what we have in the Lab....mine will work.....all for $15

seriously considering quitting my job--need suggestions
Why not put up an ad at the school for a room mate?....maybe a perspective Nurse....someone in a similar boat....someone that can understand where you are coming from all the way around....financially and school wise. This might enable you to at least go to PT and move forward a little quicker. I would do a background ck on this person and get a referral list from 4 people. Have a clear understanding of bills before hand.....a set price from the renter and go from there....Good Luck

Msdeannah, too funny on the homemade flashcards....I just finished doing the same thing....I didn't laminate mine though.....just used a glue stick and glued them to the larger index cards....My Prof sent out the syllabus today and the powerpoints for Ch 1&4 which is where we will start.....I'm pretty good all the way thru tissues.....I start Tues and have classes Tues & Thurs for A&P....I feel confident so far...1st exam is in 3wks.....2wks after class starts. I'll get an access code to my book first day of class.

Can you get student loans after a Bankruptcy
I suggest talking w/Fin aide at your school to know for sure....they can give you accurate and factual info that you will need to move forward...I'd act quickly since they are going to garnish your wages and then I believe it becomes more difficult.

How hard is Chemistry if you are not good in math?
I am in the same boat....however I listened to the people on this board. I got some books and started working the problems and I signed up for a tutor. My Chem Lab starts next Mon and it is a Chemistry Math Lab. My Prof wrote the book....ugh! I e-mailed him and he said to freshen up on exponents and basic Algebra....I have Chem Lecture Tues & Thurs...it will be a long 16 wks.
