  1. Just want to let you know I kinda feel the way you do. My mom supports me but I don't really have many friends and my boyfriend prefers I stay with the deadend state job I have because it's in a union and the work is fairly easy. I tell him I am miserable here and want to look forward to going to a job. He tells me that I should stick it out for 25 years and retire from here. I hate the job itself (not challenging to the mind at all) and I hate the people I work with (all hipocrites). Plus, I'd like to make a change in my life for the better, I'm 40 and not getting any younger. I know this is going to be a tough road and probably have to do it on my own, but I am willing to make the effort. I'm just starting all this and would like a chat buddy if you don't care, I could cheer you on ....you cheer me on. I think if you feel passionate about something, you should go for it. They won't be the one living your life for the next 60 years. Hey...maybe their jealous of you?
  2. dottie, I have worked in the "cube" for over 15 years. Let me tell you........my rear is showing the signs it's time to "move on". I changed jobs last year due to being laid off for about 6 months - moved to another "UGH" cube desk job. This new job, is a good job as far as pay and benefits, my only REALLY BIG issue is the girls I'm working with --Just CAN"T work with them for the next 25 years til I retire.....that's what's motivating me to change careers so late in life. My opinion, about you worrying about having customer service, etc... don't let that stop you. I think if you can answer a phone, talk to people, have compassion, and the drive to get there, you will make a Great Nurse! People don't realize that they use customer service Every Day! My sister is in a customer service job and she doesn't think she can do anything else. If you are determined, you go for it! This field is so Huge, my sister works at a VA hospital and says there are nurses there who have never touched a patient after clinicals. I work for surveyors of the state health department and these people don't touch the patients. And believe me ....there not all pleasant people. So, this being all my opinion, there isn't a "requirement of good customer service to be a nurse". You go for it! And best of luck to you.
  3. Just want to thank you all for moving my post. I didn't know how to work the site yet. Thanks to all for your replies. I am really motivated now. I have talked to many people regarding nursing. I think maybe I was trying to find something to talk myself out of it. Now that I have read alot of the posts.....I am alot like all of you. I thought I was going to have to be tough headed and keep myself motivated on my own. But now, I have a WORLD of people to connect with. Thanks! I will keep in touch.
  4. Hello All, I'm brand new to the site. Just stumbled across this website and have read so much information from all of you. I want to thank you all! All of you have so much knowledge and experience and give me so much inspiration. I am changing careers late in my life (I feel) and have read most of the posts regarding that --and again, thank you! I have decided this change due to the fact I feel I am being drawn towards this. Through my entire life I have been around or worked in the Health Care area and my kids are (semi) grown and out of the house now, things have taken a turn and so I feel like its "my time" now. To get to the point...........I'm feeling all alone here.....Is there anyone out there that has just started this venture and would like a chat partner to go through this experience with? I'm just starting my pre reqs and will be awaiting acceptance into the nursing program at the local college. I haven't attended school in like..22 years. I plan to stay connected to this website, once again --- Thanks for all the helpful hints and great experiences that all of you share ...I've cried several times over stories already and used information that I'm sure to need in the future. Thanks again!
