  1. During my downtime, I try to think up a different way of doing things either in the clinic or for health teaching. Change sometimes works for me, it can be a motivator.
  2. love the job, love working with kids. I work at a daycare, preschool, elementary and a high school. They have me spread over very thinly, I sometimes wish I was devided in 4 to work at all 4 places evenly, but the smiles and greetings and hugs from the kids are all worth the effort!
  3. we had that in our school last year, in one of the boy's bathrooms. It was very disturbing. We never found out who did that. The teachers monitored the students who went to the bathroom, the teachers checked the hands of all students who went to the bathroom, we even had a 'stake out' across the boys' bathroom, where one of the janitors hid in an empty room across the hall from the bathroom and whenever a child went in and came back out, the janitor immediately went in. They found nothing. We never found out who it was. Hopefully the person had their issues resolved for whatever reason why they did this to begin with.
  4. correction- should read "Wouldn't miss it!"
  5. I'm going to the NASN Conference in Albuquerque and next year's conference in Boston! Would miss it!
  6. Glad I'm not the only one with the same pet peeves as everyone else here! Another pet peeve would be when teachers/staff second guess my decision to keep a student here at school, and call home anyhow, even after my assessment and conclude the student will be well enough to stay in school. If a parent does call back to try to give me h--- for making them pick up their child for nothing, as when the child gets home, they're fine. I can honestly say to the parent, it wasn't my decision to have you called and to ask you to pick up your child.

  8. Thank You for informing people about the health care on Indian Reservations. I am 100% Native Canadian from Canada, living in Canada we live and breathe similar stories that you wrote, even in this day and age. However, as gutwrenching and heartbreaking as it is to work amongst blatent racism against Natives, know that you are making a difference for the people you work for. You are their voice. Migwech. (Thank You in Algonquin)
  9. Yes, I totally understand. Try to go to the NASN Conference, it's rejuvinating!

    definately worth it!
  12. I'm notoriously known for keep students here in school for as long as I can. I do not send kids home for no reason. For most kids with stomach aches, I generally keep in school, sometimes it's because they didn't eat, or the bumpy bus ride to school, or they're trying to get out of class or a test. Usually they get better as the day progresses. Unless of course, there's other symptoms. It depends.
  13. I hear you! same goes for me here, regarding how we're finding how parents are so uninvolved. Good luck and know that you are making a difference in the lives of these children. They can count on you, perhaps they cannot count on their parents. Thank goodness you're there to help them! Keep up the great job!
