  2. Hi OMOTZURY, Thanks for the info. I called and set everything up. I take the test Thursday.
  3. thanks, hopefully some indian hills students or graduates will log on.
  4. Ok thanks, I'll try that. I will call the nursing recruiter tomorrow.
  5. How did you take the placement test without visiting the school?
  6. I thouhgt we had to take the placement test at the school before we applied for the nursing program. I would have already applied then. How did you apply without taking the placement test?
  7. I intend on applying this month. Have you visited the campus or surrounding area yet? I have been looking around the Ottumwa and Fairfield areas, not to many places listed in the paper.
  8. Yes, I just need to have my name added to the Iowa Registry.
  9. I'm from the Chicago area. I have already taken A&P 1 & 2, micro, psych, spe, hum, rht 101, and a math class so that will cut down the price of my tuition and class time.
  10. Hi, Have you moved to the area or found a place that you're interested in yet. It would be nice if we started together. I will be applying this month. The lady in admissions said that they will continue to accept people until all openings are filled. I'll let you know how it goes. keep me informed. Goodluck to you
  11. I am in my first smester of the nursing program. There is no waiting list for Triton College. If you are not accepted you have to reapply the next year. They accept about 90 for Fall and 30 or more for the Spring. Everyone has to attend an info session where they try to answer all questions.
  12. Triton and Oakton also have waiting lists that do not carry over. If you are placed on the waiting list it is only good for that semester, you have to reapply every time. Also make sure that you look at the pre-reqs, they are different for each school. Good Luck
  13. Excuse you, its African Americans. Not to mention working in long term care and hospitals I have seen plenty of poor whites. Don't just point out 2 ethnic groups. This presidential race has brought out so much racism. The way many of you really feel. :argue: GO OBAMA
  14. At my school during A&P we used cadavers. Each group of 4 students dissected 1 part of the body. I think cadavers are great they look very different from the plastic models and the book.
  15. They last long because they know ahead of time when the state is coming. At my old place they made sure we were over staffed even the receptionists, rehab, and therapy passed trays helped feed and get people up. They should do unexpected visits like food critics.
  16. Are you saying Stafford Loans don't check credit? I have horrible credit and was denied by Sallie Mae? Thanks for the posts on loans.
  17. Welcome. Same for me, I've told a couple friends about this site.
  18. What school is that? I may be moving to the DFW area and thinking of Dallas Nursing Institute. Seems like a nice school.
  19. I too worked in a nursing home as a CNA. Little pay. I have worked in 3 the first 2 I quit after 1 month. Have you ever been to a nursing home where it just plain stinks? Like someone said you feel horrible when you leave becaus some people don't do complete care. The last place I worked for 2 years. It was a fairly clean place. You always had yourr slackers. The main problem I say is understaffing. Most days there would be 3 CNA's for 40+ patients leaving each of us with 15 or more patients. I also did the calculations after being called slow:argue:. Do you want us to give proper care or not. And they had the nerve to cut our hours with the same patient load.Check this out, it does not add up. I love caring for people when it is reasonable. 8 hours minus 30 min lunch/10 min break gives us 7 hrs and 20 min to care for 10-15 patients 1. fully clean/shower all 15 pts 2. feed 7-9 of them breakfast and pass/put away trays 3. change every 2 hrs or sooner if they need it 4. take 5 to toilet 5. feed 7-9 of them lunch and pass/put away trays 6. put 7-9 back to bed!!! 7. do what the family wants 8. Doing what nurse tells you 9. Cleaning 10. I know I'm missing at least 5 other things vitals taking them to dialysis beauty shop activities etc.. all while 60% are fighting you, undressing, or spreading feces around which requires another shower. There is just not enough time it takes 30-40 min per pt to properly clean and dress, at that place we really did our best with what we had, sometimes buying our own supplies mind you I worked with Alzheimer's, compative, heavy, bed bound, mental, and other pts. Not mention family members who expect their family to be changed every 30min-1hr as if you are private duty. They see you hauling *** with the other 14 pts. It was so bad you just expected to only have 3 CNA's on your floor everyday. Too cheap too higher more help. They expect you to be super****woman/man But on the days when inspectors were there you better believe everyone was helping so, feeding transporting, and everything else fully staffed for 1 week. I finally quit from going home with head, back, and foot aches almost every day. Now I do home health. A lot more money!! And at least my patients get completely taken care of. :nuke: I will be a nurse in 2 years thank GOD Sorry to vent, but very interesting topic.
  20. Wow, thanks alot commuter, I will check these schools out. I am a CNA and will be going down there (McKinney or Frsico) on June 30th to look for work and visit schools. I have seen some really nice apts in those areas. We have 4 small children do we need a 3 bdrm? The price for apts here are at least double.
  21. If I can't start in Texas I'm thinking of staying fot the program here and commuting to Texas on no school days . Christmas break, spring break, summer, etc. The cost of living is so much cheaper.
  22. Thanks for the info but I am a very competent B student. I will still be a great nurse.
  23. I called last week, they never called me back. What are the payment methods? How much did you have to put down? Financing? If bad credit? Thanks Matthew and Congrats
  24. Thanks everyone. No I don't have statistics:(. The program here starts in January so I have six months to see what I can get into down in Texas. Hopefully I can find something I will look into the schools listed. I am a CNA and can hopefully find work there. I have completed: A&P I&II Chem Bio Speech Humanities Gen Psy
  25. Is GCC a private college? How much is the tuition?
