  1. If I were in that situation I would try for Baptist because once you are done you will already have priority with them to get the RN later. See I called Galen to get RN info, turns out they are going to have for RN eventually but thoses who got their LVN there will be considered first.
  2. As an MA to LVN I haven't stop hearing comments. That aggravates me, but only I know what my circumstances are and what I want in life. Even family will always have something to say. When starting VN school my goal was to continue with RN. By the end of the 20 months (also went part time) I've changed my mind. Too drained for now. At my current job there is a RN,LVN and MA all doing the exact same job with different pay (vascular surgeon office). How do you like them apples!
  3. Well I start with the health dept in about 2 weeks or so. FYI the pay is very low. Whatever the start pay is listed that's what it is gonna be because of the great benefits. Also found out they make it mandatory to participate in a retirement plan, automatically 6% total gross which varies in other states. Nervous about pay cut but excited to work in what intrests me.
  4. Thanks for posting this, I had the same question. I just started working in specialist office and weeks into it the city calls for an interview. I looked up their benefits online and blew me away. I'm just worried about what to say at the interview, I'm sure they've spoken with many because my appt was a week and a half out.:uhoh21:
  5. Ok so I don't like the job I took and have an interview on Tuesday how do I explain I just started and want to leave it, to the interviewer? It's a really great opportunity with the city and want to nail it. I hate when they ask "tell me about yourself". What other than my education and where I'm from should I throw in there?
  6. Oh man, I already caught something from a patient coughing all over me, gross. I hate geriatrics! I'm home sick feeling horrible, flu like symptoms and possibly strep throat. I have another interview on Tuesday. Please Lord give me the words to nail it.
  7. I started out with my first 5 most desired jobs because they were close to home with gas prices and already suffering with my husbands commute to work. When they didn't call I was very discouraged after 3 weeks of waiting. But I decided I needed to cast a bigger net, taking my lack of experience in mind I gave in. I only applied to doctors offices because I didn't want to waste my time with places I wasn't intrested in. I wanted Mon-Fri 8-5, busy, pediatrics and good benefits. My new job was the first to call me then other places after, but I noticed they were rooting for me to find whatever I was looking for and were out to impress me instead of me impressing them. They kept up great communication and offered me more than the others right off the bat without negotiating. That was the deal maker because others were low balling me and I had to neg for a dollar more which was still lower than I was wanting. I just completed my actual first week and I'm staying put. It's not pedi, it's geriatrics which I hate, but with this specialty under my belt I'll be worth more. Plus the benefits are better than I was looking for, with opportunites to get additional certifications paid. Hope this info helped..God Bless:)
  8. woops! I didn't even notice the dates. I really hope it is, that would be crazy if she still works there and made manager or something!:chuckle
  9. Thanks for the encouraging words. Today was alot better. I am definetly not leaving there without having something else lined up. I couldn't even sleep last night dreading to go back today, but I'm hanging in there.:zzzzz
  10. I'm a new LVN, and worked as an MA before in clinic settings. I interviewed for several offices and took the best offer. 2 weeks into the job I'm miserable already. I hate the drive to and from, and the specialty just doesn't intrest me. I thought it would be intresting to learn vascular because I really enjoyed learning neuro at my last job. But I'm not feeling it, I just can't get intrested. I want to look around but this job is fulltime and I don't even get out at the time I'm suppose to at that. Just gettin started I feel guilty to ask for a day to come in late in case someone calls for an interview. Should I tell them I'm still looking? I did accept the job and said I was done interviewing at the time. It doesn't help that the person trainning me is alot older and talks to me like I just got out of high school.:angryfire What if I say something and nobody calls me because lack of experience?
  11. How can I put this gently to where you won't pull a no call no show tomorrow... She probably blamed her lack of performance due to being unhappy with her shift. And managers that are not directly over them could care less about the slack everyone picks up due to it because they don't want to catch a case with unemployment. I can think of a few times coworkers tried to complain about me and I would tell the manager exactly how I felt and she would accomidate my needs to motivate me to do better. No it wasn't for laziness but I kinda get what ur talking about. Your coworker knew it worked last time and will do it till it catches up with her. There should be a policy/procedure in place with ur company of how many warnings they can give her, then it's automatic write ups.
  12. Yeah I just experienced that at 2 seperate interviews. One was bashing:argue: the last doctors I worked for and the other brought up the name of a classmate I didn't even speak to in school, turns out she worked there this shook me up when they didn't call me right away, but I still got the job.
  13. HeHe this was funny, I needed that after a bad week at new job.:chuckle
  14. hi i went to my last interview today for the peds office and the doc said based on my 2 years experience she could only give me 12.00, and asked how much i'd been offered elsewhere. when i told her 16.00 she said ok i can do 13.00. so be honest because once you accept it you will be treated like the rest who have been there for years. they must stick around for a reason. also remember you are interviewing them as well as they are you. this doc was different because she paid me to "on the job interview", this means i worked and interviewed today. i had never heard of this but i didn't get paid at the other job i interviewed and actually accepted. she also said to make a decision based on the work and not the pay because if i worked out she would end up giving me what i wanted later cuz she claimed to be generous like that. i won't find out because it is such a small private practice i need more growth opportunites. maybe after gaining more experience and back strain i'll go back there.:chuckle
  15. Oh man are you by any chance in San Antonio? I just had the exact same experience and so did another peer from school. I don't have much experience in the med field so I've been worried. First 2-3 weeks no body responded to me resume then yesterday I set up like 4 interviews. One started at 13.00 and I left so offended cuz it was a specialist in asthma, then another at 14.50 but negotiated him to 14.90 only for him to send me to an interview at the wrong office that was far far away and they had me wait for an hour, then this vascular office finally made an offer of 16.00 after calling me in to "talk" 4 times at 3 different locations and asked me to shadow first during interviewing process, I hope tomorrow is my last interview/shadowing for a whole shift for free experience. This last one is also a peds office which I prefer but very small office, I'm expecting the pay also very small!
  16. Hi Everyone, I am from San Antonio, lived here my whole life. I'm a wife and a mother of 1 (13yr old). New LVN,still haven't found employment to actually use my license but I think it's just a matter of time. Not sure if I want to become an RN. I thought I did during VN school, but might be changing my mind. Love working in pedi, and non for profit organizations, keeps me humble and love helping the people of my community.
  17. i'm in san antonio, and i was so excited to get me license also but haven't landed my top choice jobs. two agencies have called but that's it and don't want to do that. i'm trying not to get discouraged, but keep checking my phone. these places are always hiring. now i'm running into all kinds of ma opportunites. here lvn's have options and don't have to do ltc, i sure won't.
  18. Yay! I passed!!!!!!!
  19. They didn't if you read my question it's asks, "Has anyone gotten passing quick results that are unoffical, then later told by BON that they failed?" And what else is possibly left to be licensed? You mean it's not over?
  20. Took it today and was all happy it shut off cuz I was already getting restless. I asked the test center if it was also possilbe to get unoffical results saying passed then failed later from BON? He said he hadn't heard of it, have you?
  21. Took it today and it shut off at 85. Heard it could go either way, but could get unoffical results in 3 days.
  22. Yeah I did but not much over there either. Suprises me since there is so many LVN/RN schools here.
  23. How long did you study for? I've been trying but it's so much info. Monday is the big day and I've been on an emotional rollercoster all week.
