always keep a pair of hemostats nearby for a pt with a chest tube for when clamping is necessary normal paco2: 35-40 mm hg normal pao2: 95-100 mm hg hypoventilation: a person is not getting enough o2, therefore their rr goes up (compensation-hypercapnia), and paco2 increases (> 44 mm hg) hyperventilation: a person is getting too much o2, therefore their rr drops(compensation-hypocapnia), and paco2 decreases ( tuberculosis is caused by the bacteria mycobacterium tuberculosis. classic s/s of tb are: wt loss, weakness, night sweats, productive cough, fever, & chills. dx includes: + mantoux skin test follwed by a cxr. transmitted via airborne droplets. tx includes multiple drug therapy and is continued for 6-9 months. please feel free to add anything i missed. i hope this helps and is not too elementary :wink2:

Unfortunately, FA is an obstacle at MSC. When I began 7 months ago, I was required to put down $1,200 (which I had to borrow from my dad). I qualified for a Pell grant and I also took out a loan. It took the school 4 months to give me my deposit back. Since then, I have received only $60, I am still owed $1,800. They base it on your clock hours, which are not put in until the end of the month, on top of that, it takes them time to calculate, adjust etc. Be prepared to not see your money right away if you take out a loan. I'm not telling you this to scare you - I'm telling you so you are prepared! I was told I will get my remaining loan by the time I graduate **sigh** I wish I would have known before I started that I would not see my loan money right away, I would have planned appropriately. Ive since learned that because it is a skills center, FA/loans are dispersed quite differently than a community college. Good luck and congrats to getting in. :yelclap:

Hi I am also interested in Botox/derma fillers (however I am still in school). From what I have been told by the Rn's I have spoke to here in AZ, you need to be RN certified, and also have a medical esthetician licence. Botox/derma filler companies train you on their specific products. Hope this helps, have you tried looking on azbn.gov? Or maybe dropping by a med spa and asking one of the nurses? The med spa I go to is owned and ran by an RN who has her medical esthetician licence, and does not need to work under a MD.

You are given scrubs (two sets) in block B. There are 3 blocks. The reason they don't give them to you in block A is because we don't start clinicals until block B. And yes, they are yours to keep, as well as the books. There is a small on-campus library for students to use as a source of reference when our books are not enough. I did end up buying a few extra books from B&N that I felt were helpful, but they are not necessary. HTH :wink2:

Yes they do look at your NET scores. You will def get in with your scores. I scored higher in math than I did in reading-I don't remember the exact numbers, but both my reading & math scores were in the 80s/90s. They are a lot stricter now than they used to be on who they let in. Along with NET scores, you need to have a copy of your GED/diploma, CPR certification, immunizations, birth certificate, and transcripts. They should give you a packet that has all of that info, but it takes a while to get it all together. Have you talked with Anthony yet? He is the one you want to talk to about all of that stuff. Hi there. I am a student at MSC, I am in my second block (the LPN only has 3). The school does have some issues but probably nothing more than any other college. The books come with the cost of tuition, so they are yours to keep. However, I have spent about $100 on extra books that were not given to us, that I felt were helpful. There are good teachers and not-so-good teachers here. You kind of have to make the most out of what you are given. I chose this school because I am on the waiting list for the RN program, and I figured I might as well get some sort of education/skills while I'm waiting. I graduate in August and I hope to work a bit before I start block 3 of the RN program. Good luck!:wink2:

I am still a student, I have 8 more months to go before I will be in your position. I'm afraid I cant offer very much advice except to let you know you are not alone and to hang in there. Keep in mind why you wanted to be a nurse in the first place. Maybe this department isn't the best fit for you. You mentioned you signed a contract, so just do the best you can while you are there. Keep your head up and know in your heart that you are making a positive impact on peoples lives whether you are aware of it or not. Best of luck to you!:heartbeat

I leave my house at 6am to arrive at my school by 8am. Sometimes I make it there early, sometimes I barely make it there on time! My school is 4-5 days a week. The drive home is a little shorter because there is less afternoon traffic. IMO, it is worth the drive, I try to look at it as time to myself. I listen to music, or CDs that I check out from my school that are educational to get some reinforcement in of the subject we are studying.

:ancong!: I haven't heard anything about Phoenix college specifically but I know that each school within the community college district is required to hold the same standards, and have the same curriculum. The books may be different. I believe that what you put in to your education (or any situation) is what you get out of it in return. Anyhow, good luck and congrats!

Hi. In order to prevent anything like this from happening again, you can request that the childs info be withheld from certain individuals and have a copy of the request in the childs school file. That way when the childs file is pulled up, it will clearly say "do not give out personal info to anyone NOT listed" or something like that. It may help in preventing futher unwanted nosiness (sp?) from from that lady! I have done it.....HTH

I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I worked so hard to get into an RN program, only to fail block 1! For me I froze during test time, but everything else (clinicals, pharm, process etc) I excelled at! I resubmitted my app the DAY after I found out that I failed. I also applied to an LPN school in the meantime because I knew the wait would be long for the RN. It only took me two months to get accepted into LPN school! When I am through, I will be ready for the RN program and can jump right in to block 3! I have learned a lot about myself since last failing block 1. I know my strengths and my weaknesses, but mostly that this was just one of many hurdles that life will give me, and I just need to keep my head high and my dreams alive! As for your family, it is easy for them to judge you becasue they have never been through nursing school and NO idea how tough it is...hang in there! Hope this helps!:)

The behaviour you described is horrible and inexcusable from ANY health care worker. The patient always comes first and I am sorry you have to work with that type of personality. I am a CNA and I have seen this type of behavior in fellow CNAs. Without teamwork, the patient looses (and so does everybody else). Good luck
