  1. my best suggestion would be to search the local hospitals, etc via internet. I live about 2 hours west of the dfw area in a town of about 89,000 and about 90% of the medical businesses require you to fill out the application online. Kudos to your friend for moving on and away from a bad situation, good luck to her.
  2. First congrats! I would suggest working in a hospital. I just finished my first year as an LVN and the experience I have gained is unmeasurable. I'm from East Texas and the hospital i work at is very flexible toward LVN's moving toward their RN. I half to agree that home health care might be I bit hard to pull off just getting started however It is your decision. Good luck in whatever you decide=)
  3. we have 3 hospitals in our area the one i'm at is going magnet so we aren't really hiring but the other 2 are also i know numerous ltc's in this are that do and a few clinics I don't think we can get super specific on here but i would suggest doing a search for tyler hospital and it should pull up all three good luck
  4. tyler, tx float nurse in a hospital 15.25 approx.$1 shift diff. with full benefits 1year1/2 experience
  5. I'm just wondering if there is anything backing my feelings u in this. Okay about a week ago I had a horrible ear infection. There was drainage, and my gland all around my ear were swollen. I was also vomiting. I am in the float pool and currently working on the oncology floor. I had to call in for about a week b/c I could barely lift my head up. Well on a Friday I called in 5 hours before my shift everything seemed fine. About an hour later I received a call that unless I had a definite fever I had to come in. I was blown away. How this hospital could put their patients in that risk. Yes I had been on antibiotics for a week but I was totally foggy headed. Plus, I wouldn't want a nurse that was sick so how could they expect my patients to want me. Anyway I called my Boss (over the float pool) and she was upset, b/c she has known me for like 5 years and knows I do not call in unless I'm seriously ill. Shes straightened things out and I didn't go in but that worries me. What kind of liabilities do we face if we are ill and forced to work. Idk its just been bothering me b/c I've been an employee at this hospital for 4 years as a Cna and now I'm a nurse there and I just thought they held higher standards. Is this normal? Has anyone ever encountered this?
  6. yeah that would be kind of crappy thankfully at least in my town the 2 big hospitals are always competing so nurse pay is always going up. Lvns even without being a former employee still make at least $7 more than the CNAs. Although it is still kind of low compared to the ltcs but it has created some killer benefits.
  7. I was a CNA at the hospital I work at and I do get paid more than my fellow graduates.
  8. Update: So I was on my way out yesterday and my Manager pulled me into her office and informed me that she was moving the new LVN's to the float pool, because they were hiring new rn's I was in absolute disbelief. I truly believe this woman thinks her life would be better if Lvns became obsolete. I heard once just hear say she said that at one point and time. Well anyway after my shock had worn off I called her to ask the details. She gave yes no answers and said she would call me back. None of the other LVN's have heard this yet so I don't know what to think maybe this is a window of oppurtunity IDK
  9. So I'm 3 months on my way to 4 on my first job as an LVN Its a telemetry floor. To begin with I am married no kiddos. I asked when I was hired to work days but when I received my offer from the hospitals it was for nights. When i asked why i was told it was pretty much impossible for new nurses to get a day shift. Well okay but when I started we were trained on days, and all of the new hires were my classmates and have of those had daytime positions. The nurses minus a few on days were more than willing to help and teach however now that I'm on my and on nights I feel like we are just annoyances for our charge nurses. They act like we are the worst nurses when we act questions. And most of the people on the rotation including CNA's(most of which i worked side by side with as a CNA) treat us the same way. I hate every minute I am at work. I miss my hsuband. I can't stand it and to make matters worse they did the song and dance for me and I signed an 18 month contract. I feel utterly lost all the time. I was one of the tops in my class I should not feel like a complete idiot all the time. I can't figure out if it is the bully co worker or if I truly don't get nursing IDK sorry this is so long. I just needed to vent and looking for people to tell me it will change hopefully
  10. btw the only preq. is intro to Anatomy and physiology or Anatomy 1 and 2 Good luck
  11. Theres one at TJC in east texas it a year long and they have an AM and PM class very hardcore m-f lots of studying, but about 2 months before the graduation the have a job fair and hook you up with some of the local medical facilities looking to hire
  12. In the hospital i work at we do it all. The explanation when the question was asked in orientation was that while we do the assessment and careplans it is signed off by an RN usually the charge nurse
  13. I'm a new LVN just started on telemetry about a 2-3 weeks ago. I feel totally and completely lost. I feel what I learned in school was only about a tenth of what I needed. I already goofed up and missed a dr.s order for integrilin (it was later given by the cath lab) and this patient later coded twice but the seasoned nurses tell me the patient would've coded anyway do to the large amount of blockage, but I am still absolutley terrified now. I am afraid of the doctors. I hate it. I loved taking care of my patient as a cna, but now I'm so afraid. I'm just wondering when does it get better or if it does. Is it just me? Does everyone go through this?
  14. I have been feeling that way too. I'm only in my second week of orientation. But I have a great preceptor. I was sitting at the desk with one hand on my forehead and apparently a deer caught in the head lights with my nurse notes and info sheets spread across the desk. My preceptor sat down and asked you hate it dont you. She told me not to worry every new nurse goes through this and as time goes on and you learn more it will get better, She said she went through the same thing and after about six months she began to love it. So what I'm trying to say is her words are helping me so I hope maybe they might help you. Hope better
