massage therapists in acute care
We have them in the nursing home I work at, though it's up to the family to pay for the massage therapist. Some residents have benefited from this, it realy depends on the resident, for some its reduced their pain levels. Aussie

what are duty shoes?
An add on to joannep, I have a feeling they also need to be leather as well. Oh, and please make sure their comfortable. Personally I've found one brand that I really like. I don't have to wear them in and their light weight, their made of Kangaroo leather which is lighter than cow leather. One golden rule to remember when buying shoes: Comfort before Fashion

vegetative state
My parent and I have talked about this and none of us want to left hooked up to any machine. I only hope I'm strong enough should there every be a time like that to turn everything off. I also agree with Lecia "I don't believe her condition is living it's merely existing... "

which shift is busier?
I don't think any one shift is busier than another. Each shift is buy in its own way, though having work all shifts I have to say that the time between about 7am and 7pm can be the busiest. I say this because this is the time frame when most docters and family members visit or call/called, the time most of the drugs are handed out, all showers are done. Though night shift can be busy because in the facility I work in thats when most of the orders are done and paper work which wasn't able to be done earlier is done. Though having said all that when you add in the buzzer facter all shifts have the potential to be the busiet. but thats just my opinion!
