  1. at 75! (passed!!) I had just come back from a break, answered 1 question then the blue screen came on and for the few seconds I thought it was a technical malfunction and id have to retake the test or something...whew! (thank God it wasnt and- It was because I was done..) I think the PV- TA said I looked pale when she came up to me to escort me out of the testing room. I remember shaking and my knees wobbling as I walked out, cuz wow, those questions seemed so "foreign" and I was out of there at 75!
  2. I took the exam on Friday, and I got 75 questions! I was shaking and felt my knees wobbling when the TA escorted me out of the room. I felt like I failed. I had like 20 plus SATA, a bunch of prioritization questions, and a handful or medications that I have never heard of!I came home and started reading allnurses to calm me and distract me. I tried the PVT, and I got the good pop-up! I started to cry, b/c I felt relieved! I tried it several more times that day, and I got butterflies everytime!.. This morning I woke up and got my quick results and it said PASS!!!!!! So I'd like to say that the PVT does WORK! Congrats to all who passed!!
  3. Congratulations! :) YAY! I'm in WAIT mode til tomorrrow morning (agony)... I too tried the PVT and it gave me the good pop-up :) ..But for 'unofficial results'.. 48 hours for "quick results" isn't quick enough.. ahhh!
  4. I find Kaplan very helpful. They make it convienient for everyone's needs. I took a few months off after graduation to move back home after studying abroad and had a hard time focusing, and studying on my own. So I decided to go with Kaplan, went to the classes , got crucial and important tips* on how to prioritize and answer NCLEX type questions, then focused on answering questions with the class for 4 hours. It was good to hear others and have their support --Also, I have access to test different booklets/rationales at the Kaplan Training Center, to review questions from class and Diagnostic and Readiness Test, and they have study rooms you could use when there is no class in session. *The Kaplan test taking tips are also found in the Online On-Demand Video,Test Taking Workshop, I found that the On-Demand videos gave me a quick review of the Content that I should focus on or was weak in. (Im the type of person that needs to hear someones voice and see a face to make it stick in my memory bank sometimes) The QBank and QTrainers- very helpful in showing you which areas you are weak in and you could create your own Tests too. It gives you an analysis of your answers and gives you the content area you should focus on. Ive been told that Kaplan Questions are very similar to NCLEX questions or even harder , so I feel confident with Kaplan. Ive noticed that practicing the QB and QT while applying the Kaplan test taking tips made it clearer on how to answer questions from Kaplan and other Books and CDs. I am also using Saunders, a good book to refresh my content weaknesses, helped me thru school too :) and I go to the Library and use whatever up to date NCLEX-RN prep books they have and answer those questions, when staring at the computer gets tiring.. Well Good Luck to you!:heartbeat
  5. Thanks Thanks,:heartbeat I needed to read something like this to build up my spirits and confidence again, I feel better after reading your post and am ready to jump back into answering those questions.. Its hard to get that momentum back to studying sometimes, had a busy month with family and summer ending festivities. I'm using Kaplan QBank and QTrainers and lately only getting in the mid-50's, after doing 60% on the readiness test (I thought I was close to ready, Kaplan wants a 65% or higher to safely say you've got a good chance of passing the NCLEX-RN ) I was getting discouraged. Its the prioritizing that gets me. Most of the time I pick the "2nd best answer".. and that not what I want!.. arg. But Here I go, I can do this! FOCUS and Determination.. "HELLO! QUESTIONS! bring it" Thanks again and Congrats!
  6. AFter posting my reply.. I researched more.. Check out this link to some posts.. this could lead you to more info...it cleared alot up for me. :) https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/us-states-does-261838.html
  7. Good Question! From what Ive been reading on the Forums, I think I read something about not even mentioning that you don't have a license, 1) bc you dont have one and 2) bc then CES will have to still validate it with PRC and then that could take even longer for CES to send you your report. BUT! I am not sure!! As for leaving before graduation, I dont think it should be a problem, bc there is an official list that is given to PRC or CHED or some official that lists all those who are qualified to graduate. And to walk down the aisle is just a ceremony to commence that you are officially done... But the paperworks are all set. I was actually wondering about this too a few months ago, because I am a natural born US citizen too, but I Have Dual Citizenship. BUT My parents said they talked to the Maryland BON, and they(BON) said I don't need to take the NLE and therefore dont need to explain because I am a US Citizen. i just need to pass in my transcripts and all the requirements the application needs. (But Im gonna double check again just to be extra extra sure! hehe) Advance CONGRATS! I too am graduating this April, then Im headed home a few weeks after! Good Luck to you! Let me know if you find anything out!
  8. I think you said it yourself, you went into nursing just to impress your husband. and the word "HATE" is very strong to describe how you feel about NS..I think now, forcing yourself to do something that you don't want to do, just makes reaching and finding happiness harder. I suppose now the best thing to do is sit down and really think of what you want or what will make you happy. (and not HATE) If you aren't Happy, then your actions will eventually speak for how you you feel inside. But Nursing School is challenging, and I decided to study abroad. I had culture shock and homesickness from the start.. 2 years later I took a year off from it, for health reasons, but that break was the best thing that happened to me. I came back stronger and more determined to finish and now Im only 2 months away from graduation! I always tell myself, to go confidently in the direction of my dreams. So maybe you have something else out there thats meant for you... :) Good Luck!
  9. Hoping and Wishing you are feeling better soon... Positive thinking and take things one step at a time. Maybe picking up a new hobby or joining a recreation group could help ya out.. Take Care! :) ::HUG::
  10. Thanks Suzanne. I got the application packet from the BON, and now Im just waiting to graduate so I can work on getting all of it sent in. Now, Im even more nervous with finding a job when I head home, with how things are back home... So Im thinking about volunteering in some hospitals while I study and get all my requisites in for the MD BON -- to get the feel of the dynamics of the health care system. You think thats a good idea? Thanks Again!
  11. Silver Spring Eh! Thats my hometown!! Im worried about the job market being slow, but Im hopeful! Right now, Ill be focusing on my NCLEX and passing. Thanks!!
  12. Congratulations! :)
  13. Hello! I am actually graduating from a nursing school in the Philippines in April 2009. I was born and raised in Maryland, and only came to the Philippines for nursing school. I am having jitters and very nervous about going back home to Maryland and working as a nurse. Does anyone have any tips on how to make the transition back to Maryland easier? Any things you may have noticed that Foreign Grads do or do not do in the hospital setting? Do you know of any programs that may be available to orient foreign trained/educated nurses on the differences and need-to-knows of us nursing? I want to be prepared and be a good nurse! Any information would be helpful! Thanks soo much!
  14. Hello! I'm a US citizen that decided to study in the Philippines.. I was born and raised in the USA for 20 years before I moved out here... and 4 years have passed and I am graduating in April 2009. And this country has become my second home. Ill be sad to leave. Choicewise- it would be very dependent on your situation.. and how ready you can accept change. For me it was easy because I decided to come out here because I wanted change and to know more about my family roots. I readily accept change Steps to take: Research on schools. So many nursing schools are sprouting up like mushrooms, but the education and teaching is not so good. I suggest that you check out the passing rates of the students who take the Philippines Boards and the reputation you may hear or read about. A few top schools here in the Philippines are UP, UERMMMC ( my school! ), St Paul, Trinitiy .. they have websites. They are mostly in manila Somethings to consider- Tuition costs might be cheaper, but like a earlier post mentioned, you have to consider uniforms, living arrangements, and learning how to budget the US $$ to the Philippine Peso. Teaching is different here, but the information on NUrsing is the same, you just need to study and read alot. Places to live- boarding houses near the schools are often available , if you have family out here then be ready to either commute or get a car. Things to do: Lots of things to do in the Manila area night life is great, you need to learn how to balance and prioritize, time mangement is key. Weather: its either Hot, Rainy, Rainy and Hot good Luck to you!
