  1. Ohhh that family member one is a great idea, thank you! I'm a visual learner so if I can picture them, I can picture what's going on. Thanks again!
  2. Congratulations to all of you starting tomorrow - or soon. I remember that feeling - it was such an adrenaline rush. I was so paranoid about oversleeping, I set my alarm clock and 3 alarms on my phone just in case. Tomorrow will be the intro stuff - kinda boring but still so exciting! Anyone going to Sentara in VA? Good luck & behave - fight nice with the other kids! LOL p/s - I go back tomorrow too - I just had a 6-week break.
  3. Hey, we talking about the same guy? LOL - sounds sooooo familar.
  4. What an awesome idea!! How much does this cost (about)?
  5. This is the exact reason our instructor only posts 4 weeks of assignments at a time. I wish you the best of luck and try not to focus on everything at once, maybe?
  6. Im another night owl - I stayed up til 3 am last night and woke up at 8:30 so I'll hopefully be tired enough to go to sleep tonight for my 1st day of school tomorrow! I also try drinking a warm tea (Earl Grey - its the only hot tea I like & it's decaffeinated) about an hour before bed when I have to go to bed early & get up early. My body just functions WAYYY better at night - wish I could figure it out too. Good luck!
  7. Sorry to hear this ... Because of that reason, I transferred to another nursing program. I have an Associates Degree & some other college - with the transfer credits they counted towards my 'satisfactory progress' of the course .... I ended up being over, WAY over. Which I think is B.S. ALL of my TRANSFER credits is what the community college took in to consideration -- it wasnt even the ones that went towards my nursing degree ... I had like 35+ credits transfer but only 8 or 12 applied towards my nursing degree and I was told I was over the limit. It somewhat makes sense - they dont want anyone being a professional student but on the other hand - those old credits (from 17 yrs ago) have caused me a lot of grief. The community college I was attending even told me I was NOT allowed to get loans. That blew me away and I instantly looked for new places to get my RN schooling. I found a school that doesnt count transfer credits - thankfully. Maybe you can too?

  9. I think you need to go back to bed and wake up on the other side, cuz apparently you woke up on the wrong side. I'm 37 and I'm one of "those" old people pursuing a nursing degree. I wish you luck - just remember, the career you choose in your 20s may not be what you want to do in your 30s. And lol - funny enough, it also may change again in your 40s and 50s. Good thing is - its YOUR life and you get to choose what you want. A positive attitude goes a long way .... hope you find your calling.
  10. I am most definitely interested in your books! I have all of lvl 1 - but 2-5 would be great. Ya - we got the new uniforms. It's a diploma right now but they said they would grandfather people in when they get their 4 yr going next year. So, if I choose that route, I'm really not out AND that helps having that degree because I want to go on eventually for NP. Any advice? My biggest questions right now LOL are: 1. Are ROLLING backpacks really necessary? 2. Do you carry your books to school everyday? Thanks and congrats to you!
  11. Ok - I'm ready ... have books, have uniforms ordered, have pens/supplies ..... My house is in order and I've said goodbye to my family. (jk on that last part) Anyone ready to start on Monday? Have you logged into blackboard and seen the assignments? Have you started reading/doing the assignments? :typing Well - Happy New Year and see ya on Monday! I'm going to :tbsk: until then! LOL
  12. I see ... ugh. What a dilemma for you. I truly hope things turn around for you! p/s - Please come back and update us on what you chose to do when you get it figured out!
  13. I tried the peroxide the other day when my 11 yr old son came in with a bloody nose & a ton of blood on his clothes (gotta love air-soft guns) .... I CANNOT believe how well it worked! I was completely astonished - peroxide is now sitting in my laundry utility closet. Thanks for the tips!
  14. Why would you have to transfer to another school? Why cant you just retake the semester? I cant imagine what you are feeling right now - I truly hope things turn around for you!
  15. See if you can go to evms or one of the hospitals and check out their textbook - I know two girls who have done that.
  16. Yes, it's REALLY cut down on his wasted time. I'm sure he didnt appreciate it at first but what would once take 45+ min, is now taking 20 min because he can just sit down and do it. I am also 100% positive part of it had to do with his age and he wanted to get up and roam the house but now he cant. Hmmmm, wonder how I'm going to like this set up ..... LOL
  17. Try Craigslist, ebay, barnes & noble, borders Just make sure they dont change books in the next year. Maybe you can stash away some money each paycheck for books & then closer to your entrance date, search those sites. I'd just be afraid they'd switch books and then you're out of luck. Good luck! p/s - I just got one of my books off Craigslist and saved over $100 on that one book alone! Also - I know a girl who went to the school's library (we have hospital libraries we can use) and she checked out a book for a few weeks until she had the correct amount of money. I also know another girl who checked out a book for the entire semester! She'd check it out for the time alloted - return it and check it back out. Risky in hoping it's there but it's worth a shot!
  18. Sorry - I double posted, see below. :imbar
  19. By the way - ODU was going to be my choice if I went the 4 yr route. I'm not sure I want to stay out here in VA much longer - I love the weather but my entire family is from WI and I miss them horribly.
  20. My Fundamentals book is NOT electronic but I think the Psych was but I didn't get it electronic. I'm so excited, I can't stand it. Today, the blackboard came up for us so we can see our schedule and the assignments due. I'm "trying" not to get ahead of myself and relish this last week with my family but I'm antsy. Hope I continue with this enthusiasm .... LOL
  21. We are given one in our first level - it's included in our tuition. It's a Palm Tungsten T5. I haven't gotten it yet but I've heard it's nice.
  22. I was going to go thru TCC but then chose Sentara because I got in much faster. I sent in my application and if you have your pre-reqs done - you shouldnt have much of a wait. I *think* I heard back within the next cycle. Look at their website - lots of great info there. I begin there on Jan 5 (one week!!) And Sentara has been noted to be one of the best so I am sooooooo glad I made the choice that I did. IF your pre-reqs (that Sentara requires) are done and you applied now, I bet you'd get in, in Fall. I think overall - getting your pre-reqs done is the major thing no matter where you go. TCC and Sentara have diff. requirements so make sure you choose wisely. Good luck!
  23. I am starting my 1st semester in a week and I plan on implementing the same plan I had to put my 13 yr old on two years ago when he became suddenly disorganized - would forget his head if it weren't attached. (Seriously) I made an area in our dining room that had a 9 cube bookshelf thing - and in it, I put bins: they were very specific and it's part of their chores now to clean up the area. My bins go something like this: 1 for pencils 1 for markers/colored pencils 1 for pens 1 for staplers/staples/scissors 1 for calculator/batteries/post-it notes (various sizes) 1 for tape/glue 1 3-drawer bin for lined paper and computer paper 1 bin for paper clips/thumb tacks/ruler/erasers 1 shelf is dedicated to dictionary/thesaurus You can use anything - those plastic bins from dollar tree or the nicer fabric ones. The reason I did it was because by the time he'd get home from school he'd have 45 min to complete homework before rushing off to baseball and then back home to get ready for bed. I found ... no, WE found ... that if he had every possible item he "might" need right at arm's reach - it kept him from having to run around to find an item. I am 100% positive it annoyed him at first because you know how it goes ... He's doing a project and can't find a marker -- then he finds it and finds it's dried so he decides to use a colored pencil only to find out the lead is missing -- off to find the sharpener. There's another 20 min wasted as he gets distracted by the "shiny" tv (LOL). Back to the table and now he cant find the glue, etc... With this being said - I am now putting up a similar station in 'my' study area that will have cubicles that will hold extra pens, pencils, my books, etc. I am hoping this helps eliminate unnecessary time running around trying to find items. Good luck!
