Cal State East Bay
Last year the lowest GPA accepted was 3.8. Every year it depends on the pool of applicants. Hope that helps.

New Grad in Psych Nursing
If you want to start in psych, you'll need to do your preceptorship in psych.

CSUEB clinicals
I teach the psych rotation at Herrick. As far as I know, we've never had a student assaulted. However, it's always best to walk to your car with others.

Cal State East Bay, anyone?
I hear they have an excellent clinical instructor for the Psych rotations! LOL

How much do psych techs make vs nurses?
Where I work, in the SF Bay Area at a union hospital, RN's make around $50 and LPT's $30.

Psychiatric-Mental Health Certification
I took it in October. Meds, learning theories, Family therapy theories, cognitive therapy. Pretty broad based exam. Reminded me of the N-Clex, tough questions but score to pass is not high.

Reentry Program for Nurses
Are there refresher programs in the SF Bay Area? I'm a Psych RN that would like to try something else in a few years.

Male Nursing Salaries
It's true that you'd earn twice as much in California, but you'll also pay twice as much for your house, so it evens out in the end.
-
What kind of person???
I call her Melissa!
-
Does size matter?
No, you just have to be meaner, like a Chihuahua! lol

Male Nursing Salaries
Where I live starting wage is a little over $40/hr. There is no bonus for having a member. lol But I'm still glad I have it.

Psych nursing certification exam
I'm planning to do this as well. Does anyone out there have this certification? Was it worth it? Where I work it only gives you a 2% increase in pay, so most don't bother. Do potential employers value it? Is it difficult to maintain?

Waiting for California NCLEX Results...
If you took it last tuesday, your license will show up either today or Saturday. Good Luck! Remember, you can take it again in 6 weeks if you didn't pass - not the end of the world.

What happens if a nurse is attacked?
[A way that our unit deals with it is that we always have a male staff member on each shift. I'm that male staff. Now I'm on modified duty because a patient slammed a cabinet on my foot, breaking my toe and causing serious trauma to my foot.

Anyone took pre-reqs at Diablo Valley College
I would highly recommend taking both Anatomy and Physiology at Contra Costa in San Pablo. Campus isn't as nice as DVC, area a little rough, but Barnes is worth the effort. Science classes are in a section of the school that is separate from the main campus and away from the goof offs that comprise much of the student body. As far as the other prereqs, take them at DVC.

Waiting for California NCLEX Results...
They update the website during the night at about 3am. I too was certain I'd failed after my test turned off after 75 questions. I was wrong - I passed! And you probably did too. If you didn't you can take it again in 6 weeks.

"New Nurses's Don't Know Anything."
In those situations it's probably best to focus on the feelings behind the verbal abuse, not the content. Sounds like she was afraid her son was going to experience intense pain, and her perception was that you were encouraging him to not take meds. It might serve you better to see her as a protective mother instead of a bitter old abusive *****. As far as the 2.5 statistic, I think that is part of the content we get lost in. Of course there is no research showing this! How would one conduct such research? Who would fund it? No, it is certainly a myth. However, I will drag it out if I accidently kill a patient - "See, I'm still above the average!"

Anyone know of any LVN to RN bridge programs in Northern California? Thanks^^
Contra Costa College in the SF Bay Area has a 1 year program. It's a JC, cheap, and has the highest NCLEX pass rate in the area! Has a lottery system though. However, you don't have to be a resident.

Starting in Psych - A Good Choice?
I'm a new grad in Psych. Should I have started my career in a more traditional medical setting? Is this going to hurt my chances to change specialities in the future? I already have expertise in Psych, having worked as a counselor on an inpatient unit for many years. I thought I would always want to be in Psych, but now I'm not so sure.

Would you marry a female MD?
Nah, women are bossy enough already!
