  1. This is going to be a long post, so bear with me! I am hoping for a bit of advice, perhaps some direction, personal experience, opinions, and will accept my role with out too much pouting if I'm told I was in the wrong! I have been an LTC nurse (LVN...
  2. Staff nurse role in reporting abuse? Insight, please!

Something that nobody else has touched upon, that really is eating at me, is that initial phone call, when the DON asked me to go and interview the resident, and the whole "depending on what she says, we might have to file a report." At that point, ...
  3. Staff nurse role in reporting abuse? Insight, please!

Thanks, ladies. The 'mandatory reporter' aspect concerns me as well. If I understand how it all played out, I was perhaps the 5th person to be made aware of the alleged abuse ( a CNA was told by someone, possibly the resident, who told a medication...
  4. Symphony - holiday pay / pto. Anyone with info

We are just moving to this system as well-- but we've never even gotten time and a half for holidays-- just a 'bank' of holiday hours we can use at a later date (to make up for a call-in, etc). There are so many HUGE changes-- and yes-- feels like w...
  5. GVN permit question! I'm confused!

I just took my HESI exit this morning (and passed w/ flying colors!), and the program director will be sending off the affidavits to the BON this week. My program director and the instructors have not been clear on an issue, first stating one thing,...
  6. GVN permit question! I'm confused!

    Yep-- sure did! Thanks!
  7. Little Concern

LTC facilities are where the money is... Take into consideration that all the 'baby boomers' are reaching retirement age. More LTC homes are likely to be popping up over the next 10 to 15 years as well.
  8. Who is starting LPN in August?

I will be starting LVN school on August 25th... I just went and picked up my uniforms today! Already bought all but 4 of my textbooks as well as my stethoscope and all the extras to go with it. And am anxiously waiting for Walmart to stock it's sch...
  9. Have you bought your Uniforms,Books, Stethoscopes...

I have a suggestion to anyone still needing to get their vaccinations. If you do not have health insurance (such as myself) or it doesn't cover your vaccinations, see if you have a county health department in your area that has a "vaccination clinic...

I got my acceptance letter today! Whoo-hoo! We were told it would be 30-45 days after the May 9th deadline, but what'd ya know-- it came today! I've got orientation on June 11th, but classes don't begin until mid-August. I'm super excited-- both ...
  12. All About the NET

I only upped my overall composite by 1 point on my second testing. Fortunately-- my school takes the highest composite on each of the main 3 subjects-- Reading Comp, Math, and Written Expression, if you turn in the results from each time you take th...

  14. I'm glad to hear it went so well! Did they give you any kind of time frame as to WHEN you'd hear from them? How long does mail service take from them to your house?? LOL
  15. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! And please, do let us know how it went!
  16. LOL-- Well, you could move to Waco, Texas where I am, and go to community college, where the competition is nil! I am under the impression that you are applying for an ADN program, since ours here is also based on GPA (but only towards the pre-reqs....
  17. Terrified!

I also suggest that you look into taking some of your pre-req's online, if your school offers them! Start with a more basic course you need (such as speech or medical terminology) so you become comfortable with the way it works before attempting to ...
  18. Nursing School Acceptance Letters for this FALL

*Sigh*.... all you lucky people! The original deadline for my community college LVN program was April 1st, and then April 18th, and now May 9th (class begins in August). They keep bumping it due to the lack of qualified applicants. I suppose knowi...

Well, I'm new, so sorry to be responding a month late!! I am a CNA doing private duty for the past 2 1/2 years with the same patient. I absolutely love it. I have to admit, it is a cushy job. My patient is in his 90's, with Alzheimer's, but othe...

  24. All About the NET

i took the net on march 28th, and made a composite score of 85 all because of the predicting outcomes portion-- i scored 93 on inferential reading and a 100 on main ideas, but an horrific 36 on the outcomes part! my written expression was in the high...
