My clinical instructor threw me out of clinical!
I did go back to clinicals the next day. The pt taped a note written in big writing stating that the pt would not be taking any more nursing students. My classmates didn't understand why she made me go home either, but they were glad to see me. She did follow up the next day by telling us that if we fell behind in our care to our pts she would send us home. I believe I was the example for that. The next day I had a pt that was far more agreeable to having a student. The pt's meds were passed timely and the care was timely performed. The pt from the next day was very happy to see me when I came into the room. I had heard of nurses eating their young, I just didn't expect it from a CI.

My clinical instructor threw me out of clinical!
The original pt I was assigned to wasn't in his room so the instructor assigned me another pt late in the morning. This put me behind and threw me off. I guess I felt overwhelmed by the fact that as soon as I changed the pt he would have liquid diarrhea again so I didn't get to the med passes. She said the family complained about me being flustered and then she said what didn't you do wrong when I asked for specifics. I should have done the med passes and I'm angry at myself because obviously I got behind and didn't manage things well. I'm guessing that's why she made me leave. I have clinicals with this instructor tomorrow and she told me if I decided to show to be prepared. I was hoping that she would give me specifics as to what I needed to do better, but she didn't.

My clinical instructor threw me out of clinical!
I was taking care of a patient who had liquid diarrhea. I was not able to get to my med pass because of this. The patient's family was complaining about everything. I was getting no feedback from my instructor until she decided to make me go home. When I asked her what I did wrong, she said, "What didn't you do wrong?" I still dont' understand why she made me leave. What do you all think I should do given the situation? All advice is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Ivy Tech - Sellersburg?
I am a LPN student at Ivy Tech in Sellersburg. What were you wanting to know exactly? Unfortunately, I am not on much because of lack of time.

Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread
Welcome Crazyframes! I have found that I am losing weight faster now because I feel I am accountable moreso than doing it without everyone here. Lost 1 pound this week. Down 15 pounds total so far. I will probably gain it back this weekend since I will be off of WW this weekend. A weekend without any of my 4 kids... yay! I may just bug the babysitter though. I've never been without my kids.

Okay now I get to go buy all the neat supplies.... I got into the LPN program at Ivy Tech in Sellersburg. Didn't make the cut for the RN, but I figure I can apply to transition into the RN program when the time comes. Yay!! :clpty: I haven't checked my weight yet this week.... but I'll check tomorrow and see. I've had an icky week with doctor's appointments and getting ready to train my replacement person at work.

Congrats on the 4 year wedding anniversary!! I will be throwing all rules out the window this upcoming weekend... my husband and I actually have a whole weekend without any kids and that is a miracle. So we will probably be eating out and just having a good time.

Wishn, Hang in there! I'm praying for us all to get in.... although I don't know if I'm going to get in at this point. 2 As and 2 Bs for my prereqs, with an 85 on the TEAS test... I may not get in. I did apply for the LPN and the RN program though. I figure if I at least get into the LPN program, I can transition after my first year. I've lost 3 pounds this week at this week's weigh in.... so for Monday's count - 3 pounds, down a total of 14 lbs since we started, 26 more pounds to go until September goal, and 56 lbs to go until my actual total goal weight.

Any current/former nursing students have unsupportive families?
My parents couldn't afford to send me to school. Look at it from their perspective, maybe your parents can't afford it or they never went to college so they don't see the value in it. I got loans to get through school the first time around, but because I have a bachelor's degree in another field, I now cannot get grants or loans of any kind. My parents don't see the value in me switching careers and they can't understand why I'm not using the degree I already have. In fact, they have gone so far as to tell me I have been disowned and they are not talking to me anymore. I have applied to nursing school. If I get in, I will have to work a full-time job on nights and weekends to make ends meet and I will have to get a job in the healthcare field to get tuition reimbursement. It is the only way I can do it. I cannot rely on anyone else but myself. I have 4 children and all the responsibilities that come with being a mom. I basically will not see my children for 2 years. Make up a plan to get where you want to be and take that plan 1 day at a time. If this is what you want to do with your life, then make it happen.

with bully/harrassement
I have worked with people like this also, just in a different field. Personally I would be doing a lot of documentation to CYA. However, I would also be looking for another job. This person has been there longer. The administrators have probably heard complaints in the past and probably don't really care. The place I left still has that 1 person working for them. She sabatoges others jobs and has gotten people fired. When I went to HR, they told me they already knew about her. It didn't make 1 iota of a difference. Be careful. I hope your situation turns out better than mine did.

Trying to research if this baby death actually happened...
I would have gotten fired because I couldn't have sat there. I probably would have screamed out and grabbed the doctor... all of which may get me a jail sentence for battery. I do wish I hadn't read this threat though.

Fuucan, That's a loaded question for me today. My husband and I got in this horrible fight yesterday (mother's day of all days)... it happens every year because he hates his mother so he takes it out on me. I'm getting very tired of it. On the upside. I lost 1 pound. 11 pounds down.... 29 more to go. Fuucan hang in there. It does get easier. I've been through a separation and divorce myself. :icon_hug:

Hang in there Tracylvn! It can be very frustrating with all the stress, work, kids (if you have them), husband (if you have 1)... life in general. Just remember its like school is 1 class at a time and you get there. Well, 1 lb at a time and you will get there. :icon_hug:

Piglet, I have a JD and I have been temping as a secretary because I couldn't find a job.... I am taking a 2-week CNA course in June in order to get into a hospital setting. A lot of the hospitals have their own websites with job postings on them. You might be able to find a job in transport, which requires no degree, but will get you into a hospital setting. If you've ever been a secretary then you may be able to get in as a unit secretary. I have looked here where I am but I need a job that is weekend only 12 hours a day (if I get into nursing school I will be going full-time during the week) and so far I haven't found a unit secretary position like that. Good Luck!! I can certainly understand your frustration. I hate being a secretary. WishiN, Radcliff is about 1 1/2 away from me... I think. I'm on the border of Southern Indiana. If your ever down this way, look me up. We have tons of southern hospitality around here.

Congrats to all who got in!!! Yay!!! I'm so happy for you. I just got on the scale and lost 5 pounds this week! Looks like I wasn't following the points like I should have been before. I kept on gaining and losing the same 2 pounds, which was very frustrating. Total lost so far 10 lbs.

Tell me if this would be legal
Its legal. If it the initials were initially wrong and they are simply correcting with the correct initials, then it is legal. I shouldn't be giving legal advice.... but I am a licensed attorney in Kentucky and I do believe that its legal to do that.

:hpygrp: Congratulations on getting in!!! Yes, I am trying to get into Ivy Tech. I will have to take additional pre-reqs if I apply elsewhere I believe so I am hoping I get in. Louisville is beautiful. However, if I could move right now away from everything, I would. My husband and I both share children with other parents so it makes it impossible for us to move. I would opt for somewhere warmer. And, I agree if WW isn't working for you, try something else. If I stick with my points and it doesn't work for me, I will be trying something else also.

So upset
Are there any temp agencies in your area? You could always go agency until you are able to find what you are looking for and it would probably get you additional experience in different areas.

Good Luck! I hope you get in. I have applied for Fall and I am finishing up my A&P II class. It is kicking my butt. I have a final on Wednesday over the endocrine system, urinary system, body-fluid ratios and reproductive system. I will be happy with a B out of the class... if I survive. I will know at the end of May whether I got into nursing school. As for the person giving up on WWs I can understand your frustration. I've cheated on my points by not counting everything and I do mean everything that goes in my mouth. I'm now writing down everything and finding that sauces, jelly on bread, ketchup, creamer in my coffee, all hurt my points levels. So, I'm cracking down. More exercise, less sauces on my food and less "cheating" by not counting the food at all. I've also noticed if I don't use at least my minimum points, I gain weight for some reason. No weight loss this week so far for me. Stayed the same. Of course its Derby time around here and I can't pass up the derby pie! :)

is it considered abandonment if no call no show?
I'm not a nurse yet. However, I can certainly tell you my experience regarding work environments. I worked as a legal assistant for years before I went to law school and became a lawyer. I now cannot find a job as a lawyer. I believe it is in part due to the fact that I burned several bridges in the legal community and the legal community is not that big. They talk. I believe the medical community isn't that big either. Its a limited enough field. There are only so many nursing homes, clinics and hospitals in a community. Word eventually gets around that "so and so" has quit a job or x number of jobs without notice or that "so and so" did this or that at the last job. And, there is still a way to burn your bridges even if you give notice.... by blathering on to your employer and all your co-workers about how much you hate the place. Do yourself a favor and your career a favor. Submit a resignation that gives 2 weeks notice and simply say effective the date of the letter, I am resigning from my position and my last day will be 2 weeks from now. Nothing more, nothing less. I would also get a reference in writing from the employer so that you can submit the reference with your resume at further jobs instead of this employer having to be contacted. Oh, and if they expect a closing interview, I certainly wouldn't go into HR and tell them you hate everyone there and the job, and by the way... bite it... blah... Give the letter to your supervisor. Then tell your co-workers your leaving (don't give a reason) and then move on in a professional manner. Just my for whatever its worth.

Cna
I am taking a 2 week course here where I live in June. I will go full time Monday through Friday for 2 weeks. The clinicals are on Fridays. You might want to check with your local Board of Nursing. They may have some recommendations on programs that they approve. Its always a good idea to check to make sure that the program is approved so you don't waste your money on a program that won't be accepted. I also asked some CNAs that I know locally where they went for classes to get their certification.

Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread
I didn't lose anything past the 1 pound I lost by Thursday. I'm hoping to get into a bathing suit sometime this summer and wearing white on the bottom half is a goal as well. I haven't been able to wear white pants in years.

Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread
I haven't lost this week so far. I've stayed right at the same weight. Its very frustrating when this happens. I had a bad week last week so its probably just caught up with me. 2 more weeks and I will be done with ANP 102. I'm nervous about my grade and its stressing me out. The program here is very competitive to get into. The only upside of my week is my daughter told me I'm skinny.... right... over 200 lbs is skinny.... :rotfl: She's comparing me to my ex's wife. I think she's going to think I'm anorexic when I meet my goal of 130-140 lbs.

I lost 1 lb. this past week. I didn't count points this past week and I need to work on that better, but I did get the exercise in. I'm sorry to hear about the husband leaving for the less fluffy girlfriend. You can feel free to PM me. I've been through a similar situation. I was a divorce attorney for years before I got out of it... I did my own divorce when he left me for the less fluffy girlfriend. Time really does heal the wounds. I'm remarried, have had a second child and I'm now a lot less fluffy than his new wife. :w00t:

What was your job before you became a nurse?
I've been working since I was 14, so here goes: Attendant for Tidewater Tides Baseball team; Donut Girl for a donut shop; Erhler's Ice Cream clerk; Shift supervisor, subway; Volunteer Activities coordinator for LTC facility; Cashier in retail for Sams, Things Remembered, a Music Store and a craft store; Legal Secretary for several different firms; Bankruptcy Paralegal; Real Estate Paralegal (title searches and closings); Law Student; Lawyer; SAHM; Babysitter; Daycare provider at a daycare; Temporary Secretary and soon, CNA I applied to nursing school for August 2008. I too am still deciding what I want to be when I grow up.
