  1. When you start your studies, there will be difficult times and you may use your house as an excuse not to do your work, ie I will clean the house then do some study(I do it all the time).....you will get behind in your assigned work and essays will be left to the last minute...so take this time before your semester begins to practice having a messy house as our study should come first and house cleaning defiantly last...let someone else do it if they don't like it! Good luck
  2. Sounds familiar about nurses needing their own indemnity insurance, i will look into it some more.
  3. Dear Chochis, Sorry to hear you also had a bad experience. Funny enough i did start my grad year at a private hospital but it was too small and the clicky the nurses had been there for 20 plus years, so i resigned and went to the public hospital which yes they were bullies. I have done agency work at Epworth in Melbourne it is a private hospital and i would work there or recommend someone to do a graduate program. I don't know how nurse can treat their own the way they do, its something i could never do, I'm nothing but helpful to new employees. I did my 3rd year at Unisa and now doing a post grad in health at Flinders. Looking back now i wish i did my clinicals in Adelaide i have heard really good feed back from peers regarding the support you receive. have you completed your degree yet? I do hope the new grads coming through do get an easier time and enjoy their graduate year!
  4. Obviously this time is was!
  5. I know how you feel i enrolled in a post graduate cert in Health this year and it's time for the 4,000 word case study...where do you start. I am like you and am quite over whelmed. Good luck with your assignment.
  6. which indemnity insurer did you choose? I also needed the ANF when i went to a work cover conciliation and the rather fat ANF representative man just sat there i ended up doing all the talking..useless!
  7. Re: Number 7 and Eastern Health I also did a graduate year at Eastern Heath (Maroondah Hospital) The practice development unit is not there to help you as you need them. You will be treated like crap if the A Team or so called angels find you intimidating or just dont like you, most grade 3 or 4's will try to eat you alive. Why i do not know? I have seen PDU and the senior nurses treat Grads badly, they are very condescending and treat you like you know nothing pushing your confidence to the ground. I remember being told off in my 3rd rotation in front of my patients because **** from PDU in her opinion thought i should have written TLC on a ladies care plan, absolutely ridiculous. I hear Boxhill is a much better place for learning or southern health. Also i was messed around with my rotations PDU changed them 3 times on me in the end i had 3 medical rotations no specialty no surgical...i hate medical. And to top it off i hurt my back due to the very old equipment and very over weight patients also the negligence of the cleaners who insist on washing the floor in the morning. When my grad year finished the Hospital would not continue my contract due to my work cover applications. Maroondah Hospital is not a good place to work....go figure!!!
  8. I agree with achillies, don't worry your self it is only to see if you have charges for murder, Assault and Battery ect ect. You have no conviction, you will be just fine and good luck on completion of your degree.
  9. Gosh, i grew up in the Sunshine and Footscray area and there is no way i would move back! there a lot of gangs in the Footscray Flemington area. Sunshine is getting quite expensive so i would be sure there are a few decent areas to choose from. I am not sure about near the Hospital though as it looks really scummy. If your thinking of new areas there is Tarneit area and close to the Werribee Hospital, I don't think you will be happy working at Sunshine? Good luck any way
  10. A pt this week read codine = drowsiness and constipation  An other Pt has on her medical file Ants and Grass:barf01:
  11. what a strange looking shoe :chuckle
  12. hi shelly, i completed my first 2 years internally at ballarat university then my finial year externally at university of south australia. now to compare them both for you i believe i gained valuable experience from studding internally mainly due to the weekly work shops which you don't get externally. they are offered before you go on your clinical placement. i found that they lacked organization by the staff, too many students in the workshops with little value. this was also the consensus of the groups. information i received as a 3rd year student at unisa i had previously became proficient during my 1st and 2nd year from internal nursing work shops. as for clinical placements, they are limited unless you are prepared to travel to s.a. i live in victoria and the placement on offer where rural 2-4 hours from home. therefore i canvassed my own clinical placements, which is not tolerated by the university but i was not going to s.a for a period of 4-6 weeks (too bad for them) i completed my placements close to home 5-10 minutes drive. the theory component at unisa was great i found it quite comprehensive and valuable to our nursing career. another pro was the student support with the use of the online unit blogs; most students are very keen to answer any questions you may be having trouble with.... which is comforting. i looked forward to receiving my unit work books and readings in the mail. i completed my degree in october 2007 and graduated in 2008 if you any other questions do ask
  13. Hi Waterlilly this site should keep you busy... http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/surgeryvideos.html ENJOY.......
  14. Nooooo your not the only one hurting....your normal I find get muscle cramps in my legs and feet when im in bed that night and everything else hurts too. I also sleep the following day after my shifts. I could never get past 2-3 days in a row the latest was 6 consisting of 5 late shifts and one early so that was pretty good i thought i was going to die :chuckle Although I now have pneumonia for it. I agree nursing is very hard on the body. I was prescribed diazepam for all my muscle soreness and stiffness which has worked I just take 2.5mg before I go to bed other wise I can hardly walk by the end of a shift.
  15. I’m feeling the same..... I started one graduate programme only to feel board and not given the opportunities to learn (private hospital) and not happy with my initial expectations therefore I resigned. I was offered another graduate year at a public hospital the same week, which I do enjoy. I must be learning heaps as the days seem to be getting easier but feel like I know nothing other than general nursing care. I have been given multitudes of learning packages to complete by my first rotation…All I can do is lower my expectations and do my best. I have my 6 week assessment coming up which I am nervous about the girls doing it are such perfectionists!!!!! good luck everyone
  16. Oh yes!!! its a smell that i never ever wan't to experiance again Please noooooo:bowingpur
