I need to give a template for my business card. I was curious what other people use. Do you list all your education? Example: Firstname last name, BSN, RN, PHN, SNSC Or do you just list RN? I have seen a ton of different answers online.

Hello, I have been a registered nurse in the Critical Care for a few years and would like to take my CCRN in the next few months. Anyone else preparing? I remember reading here a few years back their was a recommended coorifice to take/study, to assist in passing. I am going to start this month and register to take the test in September or October. I hope to be ready to take by the middle of October or so. I finished my BSN a few months ago and am ready to take the next step. Thank you in advance for your input. Kim

Hello, I entered ICU as a new grad. It will be two years in august. You might want to call and see if they accept new grads into ICU as I believe not all do. I planned on going into a tele unit but couldn't pass up the opening in ICU. It is possible:D

I am a recent graduate and I can see what nurses and nursing students are talking about. As a student the teachers would like us to think of ourselves as "equal", which we are not. We are there to learn and have new experiances to hopefully one day be able to say we are "equal". I have always made it a big deal to make sure I am not dragging my nurse down and helping her/him as much as I can. In turn I have noticed that I was always pulled in to see the different procedures or try my techniques. I experianced so many different things because I went the extra mile to make sure that I was not a burden. (My favorite was being charge nurse for the day and was allowed to go to meetings and answer the charge nurse phone.) I think it is a balance...we as student must realize we are guests and act as such. This is not our hospital we are visitors and must be respectful. Yes we need to get our paperwork down for the day, but the nurses need it more than we do. I really do think that in orientation the instructors need to remind the students that we are guests and we need to act as such. I have seen too many times where students think they are above everyone. (Maybe they don't realize they are acting this way, but actions speak louder than words.) In our group our teachers made us delegate tasks to our CNA and in a few situations it didn't work out so well. I was a CNA and I know how it is, I made sure to help out if I had the time and always remained respectful. I truly think that people that would like to become RNs should take a course as an assistant so they can later remember what it is like. Okay off topic...but overall I have seen the sense of entitlement in students and I think that we need to learn how to balance everything. I have met nurses that hated to have students but I made sure to stay out of their way and try to be helpful to earn the chance to be taught by them...in the end they usually always became friends and I learned something that I may not have learned from someone else. Everything is a learning experaince, be it good or bad...so learn from it and apply it to your next experiance.

I have been taught to always wear gloves also as you never know what the patient has but has not been diagnosed with. I remember first semester we had a check off and they told us to follow what our skills manuel said. Well, no where did it say to don gloves, so I went in and washed my hands and began to take my patients blood pressure. The teacher almost fell over and was like where are your gloves!! You should always wear gloves no matter what. I got use to always washing my hands putting gloves in the pockets just in case and then when exiting the room throwing the gloves and washing my hands. I always got made fun of at work (CNA) because I always had gloves. I remember two times that I was the only one wearing gloves with patients and one patient was under contact precations but someone forgot to put a sign up and the other was put on contact precautions about 30 min. later. I am new to nursing and I know for a fact I wear gloves when I really don't need to, but I know in time I will learn when it is appropriate and when it isn't. When in doubt, wear gloves...

I was 130lb when I started and 170 at graduation. I am 6 feet tall, so I was underweight to begin with. I graduated in December and a few weeks after school ended my face cleared up and I lost 10 pounds without even trying. I use to work out like a freak before school but now I am going to do it in a healthy way. I am going to get a trainer and start hiking again. :) I know it was the stress and the weird study hours etc...I did the best I could to make sure I passed and it was well worth the extra weight....for now...

I scheduled my test at 1415, but I got there earlier and was able to start. I finished I think in about an hour. I took it later that way I was not jumping out of bed and taking it. I ate some steel oats in the morning and tried to relax. I didn't sleep so well the two nights before so it helped. I passed with 75 questions. :)

i took my exam on feb 11th, but please remember that there is no certain time for anyones test. i had a few friends take them the same day and they each got the results at different times. stay positive and wait until you get the actual results. i know how you feel, i was praying the entire time. before i left my house i went in the room alone and had a nice long talk with him. :)

I used a few techniques I got from Kaplan, a few from Saunders and a few that teachers had taught me. I liked Kaplan but them once I started studying on my own I notice there were always exceptions to the rules. When I was in nursing school, our teachers would not allow us to write crib sheets (when you sit down for the test and start writing everything down), so I would take a piece of paper that had all the memorization such as the labs, therapeutic levels etc and look at it before I went to take the test. It helped calm me down and allow me to answer the questions without getting confused. Make sure you do review content because and do as many questions as you can. Don't cram but allow yourself to study effectively. Give youself time and don't try to do an 8 hour day if you can help it.

i felt the same way. when i scheduled my test it made everything so real!! i felt like i was going to fall over.

Please check it again. They updated the site this morning. It all depends as far as results, they are all over the place. I had a friend that had to wait like 2 weeks, another that waited a week and I waited 3 days. So it all depends. Don't tell yourself you failed until you see it in print. Good luck.

I am so happy to report that I am officially a Registered Nurse! I had 75 questions, lots of meds (many I have never heard of), 5 SATA and 1 math questions. I got to the testing center early and they let me start before my appointment time, which was great. I started the questions and kept remember to forget the last question and focus on the question at hand. I just told myself this is like all the practice tests I have been taking the entire time. The next thing you know I am at 40 questions and I am like slow down Kim. (I am a bit of a fast test taker and need to remind myself to slow down :icon_roll) Anywho when I got to 75 I took a deep breath and click enter and the whole thing froze. I seriously though the computer broke because it froze on the question, I waited a few minutes and it said , congrates you have completed the NCLEX!!! Yahoo... I got up and walk out and was so happy it was over. The people were very nice and joked around with me, so it made the day less nerve racking. I left the test center, went to Starbucks and waited for my ride. Truthfully I did not freak out. I wasn't for sure of course if I passed, but it was a such a relief to have it done and over with. I relaxed and didn't get nervous until the hours started passing... My state boards does not do the quick result (48 states do, but CA is one that does not. ) So everyone was telling me I would be waiting at least a week or more. Thank goodness I got them this morning, less then 72 hours later. :redpinkhe (I was getting worried because I heard they take every other friday off and Monday is a holiday, so I thought it would take forever.) **To the future RN's that have yet to take their NCLEX remember: :redpinkheYou passed nursing school, this is just one more thing you have to do and you are there! :redpinkheBefore you start, take a deep breath and just think of it as another practice test. :redpinkheRead the entire question and remember the tips you learned in school. (We are professional test takers, we have been doing it for years!) :redpinkheOnce you click next the only question you should be focusing on is the one in front of you, forget all the previous. :redpinkheDon't study the day of the test or the day before, because once you get to the test you will be soooo tired you may not do as well. :redpinkhe Remember, you can always take it again...of course nobody wants to , but that option is still there. :redpinkheAnd last keep telling yourself before, during, and after...your going to rock this test. Positive thinking helps you more than you think. You WILL do it!!! (There is no I think I can, you know you will!!)

I was thinking the same thing. I am a fast test taker (which can be bad too) but I noticed when I take longer to answer I read into the question too much.

I just took my test on Wednesday. I am not the greatest at remember all the drugs either and I made sure to know the big ones like digoxin, beta blockers, ACE, Ca Channel blockers..etc... I focused on the prils and the lols etc...I saw many,many drugs on the test I didn't know but I was able to use the prefixes to figure out what I would do...by the way I found out today I passed. Good luck and don't let yourself get overwhelmed. Also from what I remember I believe both trade and generic names were used.

I just got my results today. What a wonderful Valentine's Day!! I passed. I am a registered nurse. My test was 75 questions and I finished pretty fast. What a surreal feeling, but I'm so happy it is behind me.

Thank you. It is hard but we will do it. So far all of the girls I talked to that were out of jobs have passed their test. :yeah:So the rest will fall into place. :)

I also forgot to mention, there are a few hospitals that are still looking for New Grads. If you know any nurses in those areas that is the easiest way. It is hard in the IE because you have so many nursing schools in such a small area. My sister works in LA and I have asked a few of the nurses there and they were able to tell me of a few. I just need a job somewhere in S. Ca, and I will relocate there so it is a bit easier for me. I am out in the Cochella Valley and know I will be most likely relocating to LA or the San Diego area.
