  1. If you can share your years of experience this can narrow the base pay to what is more accurate. I hear new grad is around $23.00 Wakemed shift diff for weekend nights Fri/ Sat /Sun is 16.25 and 10.00 for days weekday nights is $4 from 7-12 then $5 from midnight. The shifts start at 6:45 for am and pm. Hope this helps, you will love the area. I made the move 2 years ago.
  2. Thanks for the information. I applied everywhere and UNC called first, I travel out to interview and tour the area. (Costly but worth it in th ened) Unfortunately it was during the snow storm so my interview was rescheduled until the next day. Interview went well and I accepted an offer, I start in May. This is truely a blessing, I really wanted Duke but sometime you get what you need and not what you want. Other health systems was giving me the run around, but with UNC from recruiter to manager to interview was a smooth transition. Wakemed wanted me to be licensed in NC already, Duke scheduled a phone interview cancelled one, on the day of and on the rescheduled day they forgot to call but I called them, completed the interview and the only follow up email states we will let you know of the next step. So I will start my new career at UNC, rotating shifts may be a lil hard in the beginning and it took me 15 mins to walk from parking garage for the interview and another 10 minutes to find my car when I returned. It's a beautiful campus and I see a great potential to grow my nursing career with UNC. Thanks everyone for your feedback and comments
  3. I have thought about travel assignments as well, if you have an agency you could recommend that would be great. Thanks
  4. Great advice, I will include this in my cover letter. Thanks
  5. Hello, NC nurses I wanted to relocate to the Raleigh area in late May early June when my kids are out from school here in Delaware. Should I start applying for jobs now? I have been on several hospital sites and I seen a few opportunities I would like to apply for but if I get called for an interview now would I look crazy if I could not start until June? Any advice would be helpful
  6. Your information was really appreciated, I was looking at the education benefit for my 11th grade dtr. I'm going to apply to your hospital also and I will try to plan interviews around the same time. I'm so excited but overwhelmed at the same time.
  7. Thank you, this info really helps me. I'm planning a move by March to the Raleigh area. I have 3 school age kids Elem, middle and high school. I work at Select hospital in Delaware and I was going to transfer to the Durham location. I was going to wait until I get there to reasearch other hospitals. After speaking to HR at Duke she encouraged me to apply at Duke first to try to take advantage of the relocation benefit that they offer. Thanks for sharing the information

  10. Hello. I was down visiting Charlotte last week me and the kids stayed at the Residence in it has a kitchen area, and living room area, free internet and free buffet breakfast each morning. The longer you stay they less it is per night and if you have AAA it is discounted. Have you heard of the NACA program if not please look it up online. Great program I just completed the info session, great interest rate on new home loans and no down payment or closing cost. I know sounds too good to be true but please look into I promise you it will be the best move you ever made. Best of luck on your move Also the Residence in take pets
  11. Hello, Choosier2003 Can you share any information about the health and dental benefits at Duke, also how long have you been there and how are things going? Thanks
  12. Hi Queen City Nurse, I'm not sure why I still can not send private messages, with that being said please send me an e-mail through my profile page. Hopefully if you are able to get this I can ask you some of the detailed questions I really need help with. Thanks so much for your helpful information
  13. Hello gal220rn, do you know what hospitals offer you the opportunity to shadow? This is something I really would like to do. Thanks
  14. Thanks again Navvet, can I ask your advice about the Chapel Hill or triangle area?
  15. Hello, I know this reply is a year later. Hope all is going well. I'm planning a move to Charlotte this June, from Middletown, Delaware. I have been researching the University area and CMC hospitals. If you have any information to share about the main hospital or the Charlotte area, please share. Thanks
  16. Thanks for the great information, I'm from Philly also. I have been looking at University but the main hospital has more openings, so I just need to get my foot in the door, like you mentioned I can possibly transfer in six months. I currently work nights but I was thinking about trying days until me and the kids get use to the new area. The urgent care centers has great hours 8am-8pm and closed Christmas and Thanksgiving that would be a dream come true. I'm fine with working weekends but holidays are hard. I have three years med/surg experience I wish someone would give me a chance in L&D or mom baby. I will continue looking for homes in the North Charlotte area and keep my eye out for the openings at both CMC main and university. Thanks again. Hopefully I can send private messages soon.
  17. Hi Queen City Nurse, I will be coming out in Feb. to interview and house hunt. I really want a position at CMC University but only a few full time opening so, I may have to go to the main hospital. I'm relocating from Delaware and I have so many questions from an insider. I was once able to send a private message but I was inactive on the site for a while, but I'm really not sure why I can not send private messages. Any information you have to share about CMC or North Charlotte would be helpful Thank You
  18. Hi, I'm a single mom of three ages 11,7 and 4. I'm origanally from Philly, I now live in Delaware, so I'm not that far from family. I want to eventually relocate to the south, I thought I would give it a try with travel nursing. I have a few questions. How is it to travel with kids, I would like to stay in the same area for atleat a year? Would it be easier if I just relocated and found full-time employment? My first choice is Atlanta, do anyone have an idea of what areas are best for kids and schools in Atlanta? I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks for any advice
  19. Thanks so much for all the advice, this is exactly what I needed some information from the inside people or experienced people. The recruiter can only tell me so much. Thanks again.
  20. I have a few questions, I know that a single mom can join the Nurse Corp reserves, but can a single mom join the Nurse Corps active duty? I have three kids ages 11, 7 and 4. If I was deployed as a reserve nurse what options if any would I have of taking my kids with me, if it's not in a combat zone of course. Thanks for any information.
  21. Hi, Angela, I read your post of course I cried, I read it again cried again this went on for about 30 mins. Then I got up washed clothes, iron my uniforms, cleaned my kitchen, took a long hot shower, took some benadryl and went to sleep, I really can't sleep at night. Now I'm ready to begin this one day at a time. I can not thank you enough, so many positive word was so motivating, although I don't have much free time or extra money (single mom of three) and not any close friends in my new area. I'm putting a plan together right now, my hospital has lots of classes. I'm working tonight 12 hours, I'll be there on time and at my best or atleast improved. I'll tell my co-workers to thank Angela:monkeydance: Thank you again, Have a blessed holiday
  22. HI, I had a 4 year relationship end in May of this year, I'm not over it yet. Sadly to say, this has affected my work ethics, call outs and coming in late. I can not believe my own behavior. I don't have any time to take off, but I fell like I'm about to go crazy. Has anyone been in my shoes, I need some fast advice. Thanks
