How about all the holiday snacks from the families and doctors as well as managerds. But yet we are not to eat or drink in the nursing station. Do they want to answer ur patients needs when u take ur 30 min break. I can bearly go pee without hearing my name called over the intercom.

Wake Tech CC
Did any go through the nursing program at Wake Tech in Raleigh, NC? What did you like about it/dislike? How was clinicals and instructors? And did you take BIO271.....please tell me your thoughts on this class online or in classroom setting. I am currently a LPN going for my RN applied to Wake and would like a feel for it before commiting to their program. I also applied to Nash CC and Johnston CC. Thanks in advance for all or any info.

Stop Holding Me Up!
I too understand your frustration. My question is if the 11-7 shift has 630 insulin checks why do you have 730 checks. All the facilities I've worked in have insulin checks on 0630, 1130, 1630 and 2000. Not understanding why this people have to be stuck twice in the morning.

Long hospital orientation...
Yes orientation for rehab/LTC started the monday after thanksgiving and lasted after christmas. I was so bored out of my mind watching them give meds and treatments then the drawn out charting/paperwork. I was beginning to get to comfortable with them doing everything. Finally went to DON and said let me loose please lol. I'm on the 2 wk on my own and loving it.

Why is the pn examination changing in April?
That is just crazy all together. NCLEX is hard enough but to learn all this information within a year and have to take NCLEX with FILL-INS, you will have more and more people not passing. We all know how it was in school testing there was always 2 good answers. I had a lot of choose that apply the only fill in I had were the calculations and I&O's even though I know how to get it and work the problem out you always doubt your self. For anyone that is going to go through with this new NCLEX, I wish you all the best and study hard.

DUH moments..
I have one that I did last week. Its a bit nasty and I have learned my leason. Here it goes........... I am still in orientaion and I had taken on 12 patients out of 24, and I was completing my med pass when I went to lunch. I always..always wash my hands after patient contact but for some reason after doing the med pass I only used hand santizier and went and ate lunch. It wasnt until the following night that I realized my mistake. I had given a patient Miralax (powder) yes Miralax, LOL I must have still had some of the powder substance on my fingers when I ate my lunch. LOL I was hurting all night, and couldnt leave the bathroom. My husband and I was laughing so hard because I was curled up in the fetal position.

Bummed Abt Transition
I'm so upset that I didnt get into the LPN-ADN transition program this January. My school pays for my childs day-care and I have completed all my classes I need for the ADN program. What am I suppose to do now? I really wanted this. I'm just at a lost.

Do/did any of you hate clinical?
I just hated the fact that clinicals were not realistic. You have maybe 5 patients max and your either doing assessments and medications or your documenting and delegating. It never worked were you have max amount of patients and your doing everything assessments, medications/treatments, documenting and delegating. Now I just started a job in a hospital rehab/LTC and I'm nervous out of my mind. The girl I was orienting with I left her there at 3:30pm the shift was over but she was just starting to do her charts. I'm like are you serious, what is going to happen to me once I hit the floor on my own?

Opinions on Excelsior College?
The CPNE is my only hold back I want to do excelsior so I can be a RN in a year but that scary CPNE. I guess its only scary if you make it that way. Even if you have 10, 20 or plus years experience that can hurt you too b/c you know short-cuts and they want it done by the books. Has anybody who has taken the CPNE failed?

LPN to RN c College Network?
I am so confused. I am a recent grad for of course LPN. I want to bridge over into the RN class this January w/ my community college, but there is only 10 seats. If I wait until August to start from scratch in the RN program there is still no guarrante that I will get in and this route is so much cheaper. On the other hand, if i do TCN or straight to Excelsior is more money and I study on my own. Can I be that independent.....I ask my self all the time? I'm just confused

Roll Call, LPN to RN Students!!!
Hi I'm 24 y.o. I have 2 kids daughter is 6 y.o and son is 3 y.o also married for 5 yrs to a loving, supporting man. I graduated LPN in July passed boards the 1st time round in sept. I will start orientation at a LTCF in a large hospital in a week, so i'm nervous about that. I have been in school non-stop since 2005, and this Aug. had two pre-req's left so i'm still doing that while I wait to bridge over to the ADN. I just took my TEAS test or pre-nursing test (math, eng, science, reading) so I wont know if I was selected for one of the ten seats availabe for the bridge in January. I have my fingers crossed and praying every 30 mins LOL .

Med-Surg needed for new grads???
My Instructors always told us to get the most experience to start in a Med-Surg unit for at least 6 months to a year. I just finished LPN and transitioning to RN hopefully this January. Hope that helped.

New LPN ....cant seem to find a job :{
I live in NC and just graduated LPN and passed boards. Right after passing boards I applied to a large teaching hospital that had a opening in the LTC and got the job I start orientation in a week, it was my first choice b/c my goal is to continue on to get my RN. Anyway, I worked in a assisted living facility as a CNA but did not have that status if that makes since. I would recommend you start at a LTC facility. Coming from NY originally, I know B-more has a lot of large hospitals and LTC facility. I wish you all the luck I let me know what happened.
