Nurse Informatics MSN Info (Salary, experience, etc)
At my system a MSN doesn't get you much more than a BSN. I'm in Milwaukee wi. It really depends on location too... at our place entry level NI with no IT experience but RN clinical experience is starting at about 60ish. Then goes up from there.

Nursing Informatics
Is for sure say get some hands on nursing bedside care experience. We require at least 2 -5years of nursing experience for nurses and a BSN or MSN (I'm sure your masters would be fine). The reason they want bedside experience is because they NIs are the ones who understand the workflow because we did it... I hope that makes sense. You might be able to find work as a system analyst without any nursing experience but the pay range is different also since it's more of an IT role. If you work at a hospital system try to get some bedside experience and become a superuser that will help too. If you are working as a nurse at a hospital system once you have experinace you can apply for a informatics position within the hospital system. You'll have a leg up on others because you'd know the workflows and issues :)

Where did you get your MSN Clinical Informatics Degree?
Different areas... my area doesn't requrie them. They require a BSN and RN experience

Exasperated and in need of advise, Please
Before jumping into a DNP program work as an RN for awhile. Most informatics positions want at least 2-5 years working experience prior to moving into that role. A MSN and DNP doesn't mean squat sadly it's not required for the most part only a BSN is. I'm a informatics nurse with multiple epic certifications and have my BSN I had 5 -almost 6 years of bedside care including ER and Oncology infusion that experience is what got me into the role because they need nurses who understand workflows. Id suggest becoming a super user for your floor or whatever they have there - also if they have a shared governance for documentation and technology join that. Your welcome to measage me me if you want to talk more about informatics

Where did you get your MSN Clinical Informatics Degree?
You know you don't need a MSN for most informatics positions? Id say get into that field first you might hate it... then go to get your MSN, board cert informatics nurse has a bigger impact but you can't get that unless your working in that role.

HIPAA Violation as a student
In reality there aren't much consequences for breaking HIPAA. We had a nurse who searched through charts to find her ex boyfriends (who had a restraining order against her) found his number and started stalking him... He reported it she was fired and the BON made her take a class regarding HIPAA... She's still working as a nurse....

A message to a Adevntist Health System Hospital who doesn't care about staffing
It's not bad. You don't like your place of employment don't go clumping all of them together. I love where I work I've worked at other hospitals too and I love this one I've been here 10 years and they care about their employees.... Every job position place etc has issues. Did you think about transferring to a different area? Seems like you just want to give up already.

Nurse to patient ratio
Depends on the situation husband and wife in MVA one is okay other not so hot we'd let the one sit with the other once we've cleared them they might not be discharged just yet but I wouldn't make a family member wait to see another loved one if said patient isn't doing so hot. And really this meant hey I'm checking in for xyz so the friend I bring with goes oh we have to wait well I'll check in too for this problem I've had for months....

I was a CNA/ER tech for 5 years before becoming a nurse. We all paid our dues.... Best of luck in whatever field you decide....

You are sadly mistaken but you should leave medical field it doesn't sound like a good fit for you. With that statement you haven't even tried! You just complain and with an attitude like that every job you get will be hard. Best of luck to you.

So you don't plan on being in nursing for long. All you want to do is complain about your employer... Do you give suggestions for solutions? Or do you just complain? I'd say leave now you obviously aren't happy....
