  1. A foreigner's nurse is a beauty. A man is handsome.

Super, super skinny with their shirt almost always tucked tightly in to their drawstring pants. I never ever, never ever tuck my shirt in when I wear scrubs. Most of the people I know look more like they are in their pajamas when they wear scrubs; ...
  2. Though I want to work abroad But...

Your English seems to be coming along nicely. No doubt, if we were to try to learn Japanese and post our messages in that language they would be awkward for you to read. 26 is young. You have plenty of time to work as a nurse in Australia or the ...
  3. LPNs co-signing blood

I'm from Tennessee, an LPN, and have started blood many times. At the time I worked Oncology at a university hospital. This was about 3 years ago. The only things I could not do were administer chemo, hang TPN, and there were certain IV push meds ...
  4. Excelsior

    6months......You go girl.
  5. What should I bring to clinicals?

My instructors would "inspect" us every once in a while. We were required to have a watch, hemostats, scissors, pens, drug guide, and a notebook. We also did the thing Stephany mentioned, every student bring a different book. Thats a very useful p...
  6. pet peeves of instructors?

This is a very odd pet-peeve considering that it belonged to a teacher..... One of my nursing school instructors would get ill when someone asked her a question about what any given term meant. Her answer was always either "I don't know; you tell ...
  7. Celebrity patients anyone?

I've had one famous patient. I worked at a prison that detained US marshall inmates. So I had a celebrity inmate--a "gangster" rapper. One of those that have the "parental advisory" on their cd's. It was very strange to hear him rap about female d...
  8. introvert/extrovert

Your story is the same as mine.
  9. Application of Lidocaine cream before dialysis

Very weird to be reading this post now..... I work in a subacute unit at a local nursing home. Last night one of my patients was asking for her "cream" because she had to go to dialysis this morning. This would be the emla cream. She keeps it wit...
  10. "Nurse Appreciation Week" gifts from employer

Did your note holding roach clip have one of those neon feathers attached to it with leather? True story: When I was in grammer school I had a whole collection of brightly colored feather and leather roach clips! I would always ask for one when my ...
  11. "Nurse Appreciation Week" gifts from employer

Sort of ironic banner, eh? For nurses week we were given the honor of wearing our pajamas to work on Friday. Too bad I didn't have to work Friday, I missed it. Our gifts: one free nursing home meal. Yum Yum eat 'em up! ; a lunch bag with "tog...
  12. Check out some of the CLEP tests that are offered to cut down on the number of classes you have.
  13. More Strange Baby Names

There is a daily feature on one of the radio shows here "Bad Baby Name of the day". I have heard some terrible ones on it.
  14. Finally did it!

Okay, this is the official pricing from EC's website $795 enrollment fee- covers one year of tuition $395 additional fee per year enrolled after 1st year $465 completion/graduation fee paid at end
  15. Finally did it!

Generally, it is recommended to hold off on the Excelsior registration until you are ready to test for Nursing Concepts 3. You can test for A&P/Micro/all the other prerecs and the 1st two Nursing exams without being enrolled with EC. The CLEP ...
  16. What's the scoop?

At the facility I work at (TN) the only RNs in a supervisory position are the DON and the ADON. We have numerous RNs on staff but they are supervised by the charge nurse---all of the charge nurses are LPNs. I have wondered for a while now how it is...
  17. Nursing Week B.S.

Unfortunately, I have never seen any nurses week events that did not include the entire staff. Over the past couple of years I haven't worked anywhere that had ANY sort of nurses week events. It usually passes by without my realization that it is ...
  18. Wierd Question.

1.) zero 2.) zero 3.) zero Gee, aren't I helpful? There is one Asian male CNA at our facility.
  19. 2 Nurses needed???

I have never worked anywhere that SUBQ heparin or insulin had to be double checked. We do have to be double checked on those meds if they are being given IV, but not SUBQ. 40 U may not be typical, but I have one patient whose dosage is in the mid 70...
  20. This doesn't really same out of the ordinary to me. I agree with the poster that said it wan't very informative. In my experience, nurses are told repeatedly not to discuss staffing shortages etc. with the patients and families. We're told not to ...
  21. Gets up on one knee

My nursing instructor was a BEAST. She seemed to love to hand out write ups and push people toward failing or quitting. During most of that time period I honestly believed that she "was out to get me" for some unkown reason. I got over it and deci...
  22. uniforms are killing us

I love all the different prints, but I am especially crazy about the super bright ones. I can do the white pants and whitle lab jacket, but a white shirt on me doesn't stand a chance. I will manage to ruin it before the shift is over. Can't stand...
  23. How do you do clinical with Excelsior

Exceslior college students do not go through traditional clinicals. That is probably part of the reason they don't accept anyone without a specified type of medical background. Students take the clinical exam near the end of their program to demons...
  24. How do you balance it all

Many people work full time and go through Excelsior. It is still a lot faster than the traditional even if you move slower than average.
  25. Excelsior College

I am SO NOT BELIEVING THIS:eek:  I had to show proof of education that was "greater than" that of a CNA when I was in nursing school to challenge the CNAs test. What sort of training does a CNA get to qualify them as an LPN?
