  1. try dermatology or plastic cases on a unit or with a md (office). the pace is different and you have closer communication with the pt. just a thought.... and "been there". good hunting.
  2. keep up the fantastic work ! the gym is a miracle place for muscles and you are on the correct path. have a great day and week !!!
  3. what a great group of nurses...takes time and patience !!!!! each one of you... (BE PROUD OF BEING A RN) and what you have done will create golden opportunities !!! you will find a comfortable area of comfort to use those great learned skills !!!! have a great week and laugh a little !!!
  4. Humor Is Better Than A Pill Or Bandaid For All !!! A Laugh Each Day Keeps The Doctor Away !!!! November Should Be "happy Allnurses Month".....we Can All Have A Great Day On This Earth With These Computers..........
  5. my goodness....looked in the mirror and the "roots" are REALLY showing...cannot remember if i took a shower......had to pay late charges on credit cards due to the hand on the clock moving!!! BECAUSE...I WAS SEEING WORDS such as( thread, reply, forum, post, etc.) and i thought RUBICKS CUBE WAS ADDICTIVE !!!!! I know taxes will be late but there is a grand audience behind this screen who have all my attention !!!! thanks
  6. you will do a great job !!! i have been in this business 44 years......the "title" of the human being does not change. the name of the organ or bone or brain section will be the same probably forever...rules change, titles change, governing boards change, dress codes change, but not the human being who is the object of your skills, care and concern. Listen closely, your patient is your greatest teacher and they will leave a lot of fond memories in the future for you!!!! my mother gratuated in 1938 as a RN and made $30.00 every month !!! LOVED THE PROFESSION ...
  7. long ago.. (1962)....I was instructed by the CHARGE nurse to go to the supply room and ask for a fallopian tube and it was URGENT!!! I am from the country and neither my mom or any of my aunts ever pronounced the word and my dad had a hard time spelling and stayed at his restaurant working ..(5 kids)...I felt sooooo important in my pink checked dress covered with a white stiff apron and my "clinic" white shoes briskly trotting to retrieve this item for my charge nurse !!! the white-haired, thin lady at the supply counter...first said nothing and starred at me ...after many seconds, she called her friend from the back who was washing cloth wrappers ....they BOTH just looked at me....finally, i was handed this large 12 inch cloth wrapped tube-like package.....I raced back...the charge nurse was ready with all staff around her..suddenly EVERYONE LAUGHED AND LAUGHED...my heart was pounding, my face flushing, and i wanted to hide !!! finally, my instructor saved me from a mental crash and i started to laugh and laugh and laugh !!! all the patients heard the story and the fun began.....i am smiling now and remembering the exact route and floor to find "THE TUBE." thanks
  8. helloooo, and have a good LABOR DAY !! keep in touch...everyone....
  9. ABSOLUTELY....ask a lawyer.....nursing has to be practiced safely or the nurse and the patient will end up in court....the patient is the PAYER of care and remember there are STANDARDS OF CARE and safety is absolute ! your license is on the line at all times and you have to remember that....in the older days we staffed/the charge nurse stayed over/the supervisor came in/the director would come in/ and generally we did not use formulas or look at the money side for staffing (we looked at the number of people it will take to handle the sick patients with the best care !!!!!!!!!!! have a good day, mary
  10. anyone remember the metal bedpans ? remember the bedpan sterilizer ? in the operating room ....we opened the window to let fresh air in (used a sticky spray for bugs)....cloth mask, cloth scrubs, suture (chromic) in glass breakable tubes..and the elevator with a man to run it....open and close its gate. we did not worry about lawsuits and every doctor smoked !!! the charge nurse was REALLY in charge and her word was respected. we signed in on one sheet of paper. everone word was trusted and no one lasted too long if suspicion was detected...they just did not return. no union, no rehab groups, no chances...just do your job as you took your original oath. those were great, back breaking days and someday the nurse of 2007 will say (do you remember) have a good day mary
  11. congratulations from a RN who was on the job over 40 years. many, many opportunities await you and you will be great !!! mary
  12. may i suggest you take several hospital tours first...look around and observe carefully. basic math is fine. great people skills are a must and a plus. look up your local nursing organizations and be a guest at meetings. i did it over 40 years....take very good care of your body (there will probable be lifting and turning and proper lifting skills should be done at all times to prevent injury). it takes a special person to begin this career but you will be great and do good things !!!
  13. thanks for the note. i am "all ears" for any nurse and especially we the disabled. i am not hiv+ but i am connected to 50 feet of oxygen line and do not drive due to my diabetic state...however, we ALL need to communicate and encourage because our circumstance in life has few interested parties and we need direction and hope !! i feel that we as a group ...... need a COMMUNICATOR for better assistance and direction in this country. we gave our all and many are left with nothing, but life goes on and no one in life is looking back at the road to see if we are keeping up.......there is a way and we will find it. remember (COMMUNICATE) and have a great week ..... mary
  14. yes there are many rn's out there and we are reading !! we hope you are well and we ALL hope each of us are going to have a goooood day. keep writing....it is a good thing !!!
  15. there are many ways people live. we are all products of our individual circumstances. i commend anyone who takes the time to HELP in any way. time marches on and they will too....you did a great job......mary
