  1. I totally agree with this. There are only a handful of new grad internships available in the DFW area.
  2. I think that insurance companies should change C-sections to an elective procedure unless of course it is medically inevitable. If out of pocket expenses were increased for voluntary C-sections many would think twice about it. I completely understand that in some cases C-sections are absolutely necessary but in a lot of cases they are not. In order to keep healthcare costs down insurance companies need to review their coverage options for voluntary (convenience) c-sections. Just my 2 cents.
  3. I agree with the previous posters about going to a community college first and then transferring to a university. I moved to the United States in 1994 from a different country. At the time it was roughly $200-$300 to get my transcript translated and it cost $65 to receive a GED. I opted for my GED. I attended a community college and received my Associates in Arts Degree. I then joined the military as a reservist because they were offering an LPN program for free and all I had to do was attend basic training and subsequently an EMT program followed by the LPN program. Afterwards, I applied to a 4 year university and finished my BSN with a 3.85 GPA. You can definitely make it. A strong will and determination can take you in the direction you want to go.
  4. You should definitely fill out the Safe Harbor form, especially if caring for that patient will remove you from your other patients for an extended period of time. This way if anything were to happen to any of your other patients while you were attending to the combative patient you will not risk losing your license. Make sure you are ready for the consequences. Facilities don't like for their nurses to invoke Safe Harbor as it involves a lot of paperwork and the peer review committee. In many cases they will attempt to revise the assignment. Even though you are protected from retaliation you need to make sure that you properly document any incidences that may occur from this time forward. Fill the form out as soon as you start your shift and request the signature of the person making the assignment. I am a firm believer that you have to advocate for your rights. As TX nurses this option is available to us in order to protect our livelihood. If you chose not to fill out the Safe Harbor form and anything were to happen to one of your patients you may have to face further disciplinary action.
  5. Lol, sounds like something I would have said.
  6. I agree, just sign your real name on everything. I am in the same boat and I know many others that use different names. Some have it on their name badges in parentheses. Ask your institution if they allow this.
  7. OP I couldn't agree with you more. You summed it up well. I left my previous career of eleven years to become a nurse and enter a respectable position. What many of us in the health care industry don't consider is that every expert was once a beginner. In nursing it is frowned upon when we don't know something. I remember being at a job for three days and I asked a fellow nurse a question, her response was very abrupt and condescending. I have never heard of lateral violence in any other profession besides nursing (please correct me if I am wrong on this). I don't believe in staying in a profession that makes me unhappy and I also am considering many different avenues in order to move away from bedside nursing. My former CEO's response to an employee complaint was that life is about choices, you chose to be a ........ and I chose to be a CEO. I thought about this statement for awhile and I realized his point. He is absolutely right we can't control other people's actions but we can control our responses and (re)actions to a given situation. Unfortunately this involves many nurses moving away from the bedside. I would like to leave off with this quote "Time spent criticizing others is time wasted improving yourself."
  8. Regency Hospital is in the process of being bought out by Select Specialty Hospital. Here is one link Select Medical Holdings To Buy Regency Hospital - Update As long as you don't mind the uncertainties that go along with an acquisition go for it.
  9. Hi everyone, I took the NCLEX-RN Tuesday June 15th and did the PVT 1 hour after taking test. I received the good pop up. This morning I checked the TX BON website and my RN license is issued. It is true the PVT really works. YEAH!!!! Good luck to everyone and thanks to everyone participating in this thread.
  10. There are free study guides on this website The University of Oklahoma College of Nursing - Academic Programs - LPN to BSN - Admission Requirements These study guides are for the NLN challenge exam. Scroll down the page until you see in red med-surg, OB, psych, and pediatric study guides. I found these to be very helpful when taking the NLN exams. Good luck to you all.
  11. Well, now we are in the same boat :) At least it helps with the anxiety a bit.
  12. You can check once you see "delivery successful" on your PV account. I checked 1 hour after taking the test.
  13. Hi LauraGC, I took the NCLEX-RN yesterday and I am totally relating to how you are feeling. I came home and did the PVT and got a good pop up. At least it helped calm me down a little bit. Go ahead and try I am sure you did fine.
  14. Silverdragon, you are right that works much better. Now, will it let us vote again once we know for sure whether the trick worked or not? When I look at the screen it just says you already voted on this poll.
  15. Thank you Silverdragon. This is great. Now we can all go back and enter whether we actually passed or failed.
