Hi everyone, I'm an LPN with over 14 years of experience in LTC, and I recently earned my BSN. I'm currently working toward my Master's in Nursing Education as well. I'll be turning 40 next month, and I'm at a crossroads in my career. I'm unsure if I should stay in LTC, where I feel comfortable and experienced, or if I should try transitioning into a hospital setting. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about working in hospitals, some horror stories that have left me feeling intimidated about whether I'll be able to adjust. The pace, the complexity, and the fast-paced environment are all things that make me second-guess whether I can handle it. Has anyone here made a similar transition, especially after spending many years in LTC? How did you adjust, and what advice do you have for someone who's a bit nervous but ready to take the next step? I'd really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share! Thanks in advance!

I just took my Nclex-PN exam on Sept 22nd, and in my opinion its normal to feel as if you don't know enough..My last Kaplan Assessment i only scored 63% but still passed @ 85 questions. In the last few days before my exam i just did all comprehensive type exams because you never know what you will be asked. I don't wanna overwhelm you all with anything but If any of u guys want i can share my exam cram notes with you..Its only two pages but have all the basic information on it (meds ending, lab values, test strategy, tricks to answering questions, acid base balance, delegation, maternity, antidotes etc) its simply wonderful and i really loved it. the trick worked for me..took my nclex 9/22/10..tried the pvt and got the "good pop up" that same day..license # was posted up on the bon site yesterday!!:) nurse 2d worldddd:nurse: -whoever figured out this pvt kudos:up: to you..it helped me to sleep that night:yawn:..lol

i don't even know where to begin at 8:00 am this morning (9/22/2010) i took the hardest exam i have ever taken in my life. i laid down in my bed last night at around 9pm and did not fall asleep until midnight and i woke up like every 2 hours. i woke up 5:15am this morning with the worst gut wrenching feeling i have ever had in my life, i tried eating and i couldn't all i had was a bottle of water. i arrived at the testing center around 7:10 am, there were 3 other girls that had the same appointment time as i did. the difference with them and i was that they were confident within themselves and i was not (i had done a final assessment the day before with my kaplan cd and only got 63%). we did all the necessary procedures for checking in. a young lady escorted me to a computer and signed me on. i did the tutorial and then the disaster was about to occur i was convinced. i sat at the computer looking at question 1 for about 6 minutes (in a daze) then i rest my head on the table and began to pray and cried and cried and cried and cry again..i started the test and i can remember the whole time saying ***!!..this is not a nursing examination this has to be what doctors take in order to obtain their license. the options were so close!!..i stopped at number 70 to go get a drink of water and a bathroom break (and i cried and again)..i went back to the computer and i started again..now i am at #84 and i said to myself my test is gonna stop after 85 and it did, the screen went blue!! n i started to freak out and told the lady that something was wrong with my computer. i wanted a chance to redeem myself because i was so sure that i was selecting all the wrong answers. i completed the survey and sat there for like 5 minutes gazing at the screen then i raised my hand and was escorted out the room..i cried all the way home (i took public transportation by the way) and people were looking at me like whats wrong with her?..a few people asked me if i was ok and i just looked at them with a blank stare..i was convinced that i had failed because some of the stuff i never even heard of before:eek:. then i came home and logged into allnurses.com saw the thread about the pvt and decided to try it and to my surprise i got the "good pop up" and was told to contact the board of nursing and i said there is no way that this crap can be accurate. i contacted the bon and a lady answered and i asked her if she ever heard about this pvt and she said no. she asked when i took my exam and i told her this morning and she said there is nothing on their end but she can check on pearsons vue end and see if anything is there i said ok and gave her my info. then she said "congratulations you're a nurse", and i was like what did you say? and she said it again..all i could do was screammmmmmmmm and cry. and she was so nice about it and listened to this total stranger cry and told her how happy she was and asking her to check again, and asking her if she was joking. -i didn't even know that they would have access to the results that soon (my exam was over at 10:16am) and i called them at about 12:30pm i had 20 questions on medications (i counted) the rest consisted of standard precautions, few maternity, positioning, disease processes etc... (know your lab values!) enough of my blabbing..i know its easier said than done, but people please have some faith in yourself..you made it through nursing school and you can do it!! i am now a nurse:nurse: -nina

So I'm sure you guys have seen a million and one thread like mines..I have my Nclex tomorrow morning and i do not feel ready:confused:..I re-scheduled once already and of course its too late to re-schedule now..I need all the luck i can get..I graduate way back in January and I'm only taking it now because i had severe financial difficulties where i couldn't even pay for my test. I am the last person in my class to take it n i hope that the results will be good..I took my final assessment today with Kaplan Nclex-Pn Test Strategy and only got 63% (I only got 112 questions correct out of 180:mad:) and i feel discouraged and awful. I just pray that i know enough to get by..I will come back and vent about the test and how it was 2morrow and in 48hours let you guys know how i did (hopefully its Good)..Anyways I'm going to bed now i wanna get as much rest as possible.. P.S. How does that 63% look? It looks poor to me..Anyone ever got anything close to that and was still successful?

I use to study monday to friday about a hour a day (march-mid june) then i stopped..Since i started up again, I have been studying everyday for the past 3 weeks 2 hours per day..The most difficult section for me is the pharmacology section (routine meds as our instructors called it i.e cardio meds, antiobiotics, psych meds i am ok with)..I use saunders for practice and i have been getting in the 80's for all the systems, Pharmacology is not looking so hot for me as i stated i have been getting in the low 60's..Don't know if that's good enough.. Hi everyone, I graduated from Nursing School back in January of 2010..And i havent taken my NCLEX-PN as yet because i was going through financial hardship and was not able to pay for my test..I recently paid and set a date for August 23rd..I am very scared because of the long wait and do not know if i should take the test or re-schedule and take a re-fresher course..I am currently using Saunders and Mosby's and i get good scores in them but i do not know if that would be sufficient in helping me..I just always remember our instructors saying do not wait too long because you will forget things and that's exactly what ended up happening to me..If you have been in a similar situation or know someone who was please comment I need any word of advice please..I'm really scared/sad:crying2:

i honestly do not know..i remembered when i asked all i was told was that they only participate in the pell grant "program"..but i knew of classmates that took out private loans and paid their tuition that way..
