  1. :hpygrp:Hi Wiggles, I think it will definately give you an advantage that your mom has worked at MSK for so long. After your first year of clinicals be sure to apply for the CAP program. The combination of these two things will give you a very good chance of being hired as an RN at MSK. They do hire adns, that is the degree I held when I was hired! Best of Luck!
  2. I've been at MSK for 2 years, and have been told that currently they are hiring RN's through current employee referral only. This may change at some point, but currently that's what they're doing. It is a great place to work and I know I will stay for a long time. Best of luck to all in the job search!
  3. Thanks! I feel better already!
  4. I was on an inpatient med/surg unit for the last year and a half and recently transferred to ICU. In my last weeks on the floor, a few nurses became nasty and talked behind my back. 1 even complained about my care of a patient and emailed my nurse manager before ever talking to me about it. I have not yet started working in the ICU, but I have just learned that a nurse from my floor transferred a pt to the ICU and told the ICU nurse that the nurse that was transferring (me) was a lazy nurse. I am so upset and angry by these nurses who are talking and spreading rumors about me. I haven't met any of the ICU staff, and now they already think I'm lazy. Why do nurses do this to other nurses? How should I handle the situation? I haven't worked on the floor for 2 weeks and they are still talking about me. Please give me your thoughts.
  5. I graduated from SVCMC 2007, will be starting my BSN in the fall, Adlephi and Suny downstate have both accepted all my RN classes. I thought the program was great and very affordable compared to many other schools (Adelphi = $25k per school year). I have a job I really love at Memorial Sloan Kettering and am working and earning the same salary as grads from NYU, Molloy, Adelphi, etc. If you earn your associates and work for your BSN, most hospitals have tuition reimbursement. At my hospital we get $10k per year tuition reimbursement. If you are fortunate enough to be accepted to SVCMC, you should go. Best of luck to all!!!
  6. Just want to let everyone know that St Vincent's now offers an evening program!:w00t:
  7. :specs:Hi, I graduated last year from St Vincent's, it was a great experience, small school, affordable. It is very competitive though, only 50 students are accepted per semester out of 1,000 or more applicants. Best of Luck.
  8. NS/LIJ takes new grads and has a fellowship program. Best of luck!
  9. Keep your chin up. You can and will pass. I took Kaplan and I highly recommend it. The qbank is great, and is very much like the NCLEX. I passed the first time with 75 questions and I really credit that to the Kaplan course. I did Kaplans qbank questions every day, but I would only do 30 at a time, take a break and then do another 30 and so on. I was averaging 60% on the qbank and Kaplan said it was a safe range to pass NCLEX. Don't give up, it sounds like you've got a great support system and strong will to conquer the exam. You will pass!!! Good Luck!!!
  10. Sorry to hear that you failed, but din't give up. You have worked way too hard to let 1 test get in your way. I took and passed the NCLEX 3 weeks ago and I took Kaplan and did the online qbank. The class and qbank are a great prep for the test. Please don't give up, you can do it, you wil pass!!! Best of luck!!
  11. Hi, I just graduated with my ADN and the starting salary at Sloan Kettering is 70,000 + 10% night differential. They also give $10,000 tuition reimbursement if you go on to continue your education. They offer self scheduling and 4 weeks paid vacation in the first year of service.
  12. Hey Jenny, I won't be living in Sloans housing, I have 3 kids and the apt would be too small for all of us. Congrats on your job. If you're still interested in Sloan, get a little experience and reapply. I did not get the first position I applied for, but I was very persistent and got a postion in another dept. It was difficult, but so worth it. You can do it! I'll see you there soon!!! Keep trying!!! Best of luck!
  13. Hi, I'm a recent grad and will be working at Sloan. You shouldn't be discouraged, it is sooo competitive. Have you gone to any job fairs? I went to the Advance for Nurses fair and the Nursing Spectrum one. I met lots of recruiters from tons of hospitals. You should give it a try. You can get the dates on each of their web sites. Best of Luck!
  14. :smiley_aaCONGRATULATONS!!!!
  15. Took mine in NY last week and it took 49 hrs and 30 mins!!! Good Luck!
  16. I have the book that was included for the course, mine is all content review. If it's questions your looking for continue with the q bank and try the NCLEX 3500 disc. I go mine used from amazon for $15. I passed this past week w/75?'s. Best of Luck, you sound prepared, you will pass!
  17. Essaboz, Thanks. The 2 weeks before and really all along I've been using Kaplan's qbank and question trainers. I also reviewed content with the Kaplan book. The other thing I used was the NCLEX 3500 disc, similar to Kaplan's questions and very helpful. Kaplan and the disc were the most helpful for me. Review meds, I had lots of them. Best of Luck!! :monkeydance::balloons::balloons::monkeydance:
  18. :lol2:My Kaplan overall was 60%. I had 75?'s, and thought I definately failed, but found out last night I passed. Kaplan is a good prep for thetest, best of luck, you are prepared, you can do it!!!
  19. Lidiya, Thanks for the support. I found out I passed!! What a great feeling!
  20. Hi everyone, After 50 of the most stressful hours, I found out I passed w/ 75?'s. It was the most difficult test I've ever taken, but now I can really call my self an RN!!! It still doesn't seem real yet, I feel like I'm floating on a cloud! Thank you for all the support, and to all who are waiting for results or to take the exam, Best of Luck. :monkeydance::balloons::balloons::balloons::monkeydance::balloons::balloons::balloons::monkeydance::balloons::balloons::balloons::monkeydance::balloons:
  21. Hi, I took my NCLEX Thurs, and am waiting the results. I can't sleep, I'm nauseous and have a really upset stomach. I have never felt soooo sick. This waiting is killing me. I had 75? a lot of check all that apply, some delegation, prioritization, and meds I've never heard of. Does anyone have info about the quick results. Does the 48 hrs. wait time count from test start time or appt time? Is it business days, because if it is then I have to wait until Monday!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!
  22. :balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons: Congratulations, ldonahue74, LPN!!!!:balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons::balloons:
  23. Hi, Took my RN exam yesterday. It shut off at 75?'s, no calculations, lots of meds--some I've never heard of, about 8 select all that apply, and also priority and a few delegation. I think I only got 3 or 4 right, I have never felt so anxious and unsure in my life. I keep checking the pearson vue site and the BON site, I know it's too soon but I can't help it. My heart is pounding and I am soooo nervous, feeling sick and upset. I am in the same boat as you are!!! Good luck to us both!!! Let me know when you get your results. Is it good or bad to only have 75?'s???:monkeydance:
  24. :oTook my test today and it stopped at 75 too. I feel like I failed, there were no answers I felt 100% certain of. It was tourture!!! I feel so upset and sick and like an idiot!!!
  25. I'm right there with ya. I've got 2 days to go. I'm so nervous. Took Kaplan, did the whole Q bank and a few of the question trainers and have been reviewing. I feel like I don't know anything!!!! I hope when I sit for the exam it all comes back to me!!! What do you do to try to stay calm?????:monkeydance:
