  1. Were you able to secure an apartment before you got there, or did you visit before and get it before the final move?
  2. Actually, I'll be at the south campus, I might be on the north campus occasionally if I'm on call.
  3. I'm from South Florida, and am planning on moving to Fargo late April. I'll be in the O.R.
  4. I have the opportunity to choose between working as a circulator in a Level 1 trauma hospital's main O.R. (orientation 6 months) or their outpatient O.R. (orientation 3-4 months) I feel like the main O.R. would give me more knowledge, varied experience, and more future options, but after working one year in med-surg and finally leaving the floor, I'm kind of burned out and would welcome working in an area that isn't as acute, hence I'm leaning more towards the outpatient surgical setting. O.R. nursing is something I've wanted to do for a long time. I really just want to be happy with my job. Is it possible to make the move, if I wanted to in the future, to a main O.R. after only having outpatient surgery experience?
  5. I found out last week I was denied as well.
  6. Ok, I'll let you know if I hear anything.
  7. I was also given the impression that the decision would be made very soon. Sorry, I don't know how long the contract would be.
  8. Yeah, I know what you mean. It's been really hard not hearing anything. Hopefully we hear some good news soon. Did they indicate to you how soon they would have a decision?
  9. Hi, I interviewed for the OR internship at JMH two weeks ago as well. I have not heard back...have you heard anything?
  10. The trick definitely works. Took the test yesterday. Came home, tried the trick, and got the good pop-up. Looked on the BON website this morning and found out I passed!
  11. It is possible to take two sciences together and get As in both of them. I took A&P 1 and Chemistry together and got As in both of them. I'm also currently in the 4th semester of the nursing program. I would say if you know you can handle it, go for it!
  12. The bare minimum that MDC will accept is 2.0, but you have to understand that there there are hundreds of students applying. Student selection is based almost entirely on GPA. So, if there are 100 students applying for 20 spots, the ones that have the highest GPAs will be chosen, even though those with a 2.0 or 3.0...still meet MDC's admissions standards.
  13. I have a B.A. from a previous school, and I'm currently in the generic option. They only counted my science prereqs at MDC and one math class from my previous Bachelors. No other classes from my previous degree were taken into account to calculate GPA. I simply received credit for having taken them.
  14. Congrats to all of you! Reading all your posts reminds me of last year. The ATI and critical thinking tests you take before starting are only diagnostic tools to assess your learning styles and how well you are at thinking critically. There's nothing to study for. It has no impact on your admission into the program.
  15. Yes, the summer schedule is posted up in the nursing dept. Unfortunately, the Jackson Scholars program is not for the accelerated option. But it doesn't really matter at this point, because the Jackson Scholars program has been suspended for the time being and they are no longer offering it to any new incoming students. This is because of decreased donations & cutbacks at Jackson due to the bad economy. I don't know if Baptist Scholars is still accepting new students, however.
  16. Yes, you need to take it, because you will need it in order to attend clinicals. You could take the class now, I guess to get it out of the way, because there are a lot of things you have to do in a short amount of time (immunizations, drug testing...) before you get started in the program. But, you might also want to wait until you get accepted. You don't want to end up taking if for nothing, in case you don't. Hopefully, that won't be the case though, and you will all get accepted. Good luck!
  17. Yes, I'm currently in the program and when I applied last spring, I had just started taking Anatomy 2. And I took Microbiology + lab in the summer, while I was waiting to be accepted. A few of my classmates have taken or are taking microbiology while in the nursing program.
  18. 30NCN, I got a big yellow envelope last year. But, I guess things are running a little latethis year. Have you guys gone to the information session yet, or are you still waiting to hear about that?
  19. You're very welcome! Believe me, I know how you feel at this moment. I was where you are right now at this time last year.
  20. I got the information session invite by email last year on May 15, and the actual acceptance letter by May 29th in the mail, if that helps anyone.
  21. My GPA was 4.0, but I only had to do the science pre-reqs because I had a previous degree. Sorry, I don't know what the exact cutoff was for last year. But, I would say at 3.5 and above you have a good chance.
  22. I'm currently a student in the generic program. But, last year I applied to the Accelerated as well as Generic, and we got our acceptance letters at the end of May, so you guys should know something pretty soon. But, I also remember the wait last year at this time, and it was killing me. Don't quote me on this, but if you get an information session invite, you're pretty much as good as in. Good luck!
  23. I'm going to have to agree about not buying the curriculum. I'm finishing up 2nd semester, and have never used it. They'll try and tell you that you need it, but don't bother. It will be a waste of 50 bucks.
  24. I sort of went through the same thing. I already have a Bachelors in a completely unrelated field and decided to go back to school to get an ADN in nursing. Well, I did not qualify for any federal grants, only Stafford loans. And even to get the Stafford loans I had to file an appeal, complete with a letter as to why I should get the loans. Well, the appeal was approved and I am now receiving the loan funds. I was also able to get other financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants (not federal grants, however). The grants that I got were school-based.
