I really think all future nurses should seriously consider being BSN RN's as this is becoming the basic degree to get a job especially in this economy...

Hi I'm seriously considering doing my MSN in Midwifery..have lots of bedside L&D experience...I would like to know from certified midwives how it is post MSN... are you able to practice or is it difficult to get a job as opposed to say ..being a NP or CRNA..

I taught OB and med surg .... based on that experience.. i would strongly recommend go for either Medsurg or ED or ICU ... in my opinion any field you get into ...it will take atleast a couple of years to go forward... the experience you get will only help you as a OB nurse as it will give you a strong foundation both skill wise as well as from the knowledge point of view..Obstetrical patients can have a lot of co-morbidities where a good practical bedside medsurg experience will help you be a much better OB nurse... whatever you choose wish you the best of luck in whatever you do!!

Hi I too was looking for a refresher in nyc and didnt find any but... rutgers, adelphi molloy all have good refresher courses .. for folks who cannot travel try msu.com... its a online refresher..

Hi I would suggest do the Suzanne plan. It is in a sticky at the top of the forum...Meanwhile I would like to share what I did.... first I did Kaplan... then did the Suzanne plan , also while studying i would browse on the internet for answers to queries i had ... the search box on the top of this page was another important tool... I would type in the topic and search...also ... check out icufaqs.com...believe me i answered some questions on the NCLEX RN becoz I had read most of the topics on that website!!! Answering questions is another tool... All the best to you!!! :)

hi OR2CA, Two weeks before my test I did about 100 questions every morning,and after that made a list of commonly tested topics and also my weak points and re read those...I must confess though that I am used to last minute reading....so I did do a kind of overall content "look through" where I just skimmed over everything.....(may not be a good idea for everybody!!!) Please read infection control ....following websites may help...All the best to you!!...you have prepared well ...just take your time with the questions on the test..Will definitely pray for you!!!!! hi its funny but i had 75 q's and my test was very similar to what lvlytxnn...mentioned....i had close to 15 SATA..most of them infection control..I too was scared why I kept getting similar questions ..that too towards the end.. but I PASSED so...all the best to you!!!..will pray for you!!!!

Hi wishiwereanurse, a rule of thumb i followed with floats was dont give (now in e.g. mentioned below) any pt who requires specific care related to that field...i.e.medsurg...discharge is for copd...though copd is stable... is discharge teaching specific to med surg whereas this is a psych nurse ,so new admission bph is out too.. now between postop lap who requires ambulation and patient who will be given packed cells...post op lap is for ambulation quite stable as they have to hold incision..pain etc... packed cells all RN's have to know how to give but requires close monitoring in first fifteen minutes..so correct me me if i am wrong...ans=postop lap

Hi I too was in a similar situation and passed nclex rn with 75 questions on 29th march 2008!!!...am not bragging but really its not easy...the only advice I would give you do the Suzanne plan it involves only one book=$40...and it is sufficient!!! I did it and if you want any further help pm me!!!:)

goodluck!! hang in there!! the nclex is not all that difficult as its made out to be!! in fact it is the same kind of questions that we see on all those question banks out there especially kaplan...i had a question which was very similar from the kaplan qbank..just go over areas you are weak in...the last few days before my test i brushed up on content like labs, meds and specific areas the tests showed me i was weak in...pay close attention to infection control...goodluck again to all of you who will test soon.

Hi Mave and rest of April testtakers, I passed the NCLEX RN...!!!!!....Had 75 questions.. I had a lot infection control..1 med calculation and 4-5 easy meds , teaching and priority questions..I preponed my test to March29...(coz its a saturday!!!) I must mention I had atleast 12-15 questions which were SATA!!!!! I did the Suzanne plan and read from PDA ,Saunders, and 250 newformat questions.. My advice to future testakers would be do CONTENT!!! first and foremost see that you know the content then solve questions...dont leave any doubts regarding any specific topic:nono: rather use resources like the internet and other search engines!!!! I used the searchbox of allnurses alot for doubts!! believe me its very helpful!! Goodluck to y'all:up:

Hi I have been following your posts ...I have to agree with Suzanne4 study from one book....it can be confusing to use two books.. but.. a suggestion.... use credible sources maybe the internet or honestly the search engine of allnurses has a wealth of both practical and theoretical knowledge!!!! I used it extensively during my study to clear doubts and in the bargain learned a lot!!!!! ..by the way I used Saunders!!
