Human Anatomy / A&P I Club for Fall 2007
All this class does is bring your GPA down. All the nurses I work with always tell me that these two sequence of classes are crap. Same with the chemistry. But Its the road we all must take to get into the nursing program. Don't get me wrong I love learning about the human body......BUTT......at my own pace. I hate pressure in this class. Such crap.

Adelphi accelerated BSN tuition and options to work
So how rough was the 15 month program at Adelphi? I don't care about the work load, the only thing I care about is being able to work my three days a week in the evening. I know its doable because there are some nurses that I know that had a family and worked full time in the accelerated bsn. But everyone is different. SO my dear, how was it? :rotfl:

Tattoos?
I have a tattoo on my wrist of two crescent moons facing one another or as I like to call the "a perfect circle" symbol. My patients all love it. They tell me that it's cute and always ask what it means. I guess because its not a large tattoo that it is not so offending. As usual it depends on the tattoo. If you take care of your patients well, they will view you as a great nurse no matter what ink you have on your skin. Guys, get inked, but not over-inked. Tattoo's are an expression of one's personal interests character and disposition. I love them. Dan

Anyone attending Adelphi University???
I called up Adelphi's Nursing office and the person who I spoke to told me that their accelerated program was a little over 15 months. I see on a few posts her that the accelerated program at Adelphi is about 2 and a half years. What is the real length of Adelphi's accelerated program?!?!?! Somebody fill me with the right answer. THANK YOU!!!

Curious female here! :)
Nursing is a sort of a first choice of career for me. I actually started taking heavy science courses to get into veterinary school but I started working as a nurse's aide and I fell in love with nursing. I lucked out because most of the science pre-reqs that I needed to get into the Nursing program were already done. I love animals and always wanted to help them, but I think sub-unconsciously I realized I could never put an animal down. A puppy or kitten can't tell you "Hey I feel pain here!" like a human can. I have ultra respect to all veterinarians out there because they have one of the hardest jobs in the medical field. But anyway, Nursing is just for me and will always be forever. And at the Ripe old age of 20 I think I made the right choice. PS..... It's not for the money either. I get a natural high from making my patients laugh or getting them out of bed when they feel down. For people who are going into nursing for the money, I would not want you taking care of my family. Please realize nursing is customer service, just like retail. You must please people and take their bullshit, but it should also make you happy. A true nurse, like the ones who I work with(25 plus years in) will have a natural knack for people and will get a natural euphoria from getting them well and sending them home. Please think about that before entering nursing 101. Good luck to all!!!! :0

Gay labeling, is it just plain mean? Or sexual harrassment?
For your information. Buddy, you do not just turn gay. You are either born gay or you aren't. There isn't a gay virus that you catch and there is no gay influence. Gay or not gay. It's as simple as that. And yes it is terrible to be labeled something that you aren't, but let's face the facts. The whole world labels you whatever they want. Don't let it get to you.

Working and going to school, how much work is doable?
It is completely normal to work and go to school full time. It makes me angry when people tell me do not work while attending nursing school. It is not my fault that I am not supported by a family etc etc. Basically meaning that I do not have anyone to pay my bills or hand me money when I need it, I have to work for what I want and what I have to pay for. Honestly, someone who works through school will wind up being a much more well rounded human being than one of those typical kids whose parents can offer them the world. Now everyone wishes that they could not work while they go to school and have parents to shower them with money when they needed it, but the fact is most of us don't have that luxury. I am 20 myself, and I work and go to school full time for nursing. In the end you will see how much of a better person you will be. The only reason why I am replying to this is because I support people who work and go to school at the same time. I am not intending to knock those lucky kids who have parents that can give them everything, I am just merely saying I am pro work and school. And it doesn't help that one day I was discussing my grades with a nurse at the hospital I work with and she had said to bring my 3.5 gpa up to 3.9 if I wanted to succeed. I explained that I work while I go to school and it is hard to get all the study time in, although 3.5 is damn good. And she said, and I quote " Oh I never had to work while I was in school, my parents gave me whatever I want and I had all the study time in the world to keep my GPA at 3.99, I was always first in my classes." Hahaha some of us just don't have that luxury. Can you believe her. Ugh. People! Don't ever be one of those nasty nurses. I will never be and I know that.

People in it only for the quick hire
Great comments to this topic. I understand the abused thing, this that and the other thing. But people, come on! I didn't write this directed toward anyone here. I notice a few of you getting very offended. This was not directed towards anyone, this was just a thought that I wanted out of my head. This place is obviously the place to do it. Anyway, regardless of how well you do your work, you still need to have empathy because NO ONE, and you all know it, NO ONE wants to be in a hospital. It means 1 or a combination of a few things. The patient can die there, they will be away from home for a certain amount of time, they miss their families, independence, quiet time(we know hospitals are noisy), mid-day chores, etc. You get it right? And to have a nurse who is COMPLETELY competent and excellent at what he/she is doing does not make up for attitudes and bad vibes half the nurses bring in(i.e. the ones who are in it because they wanted a fast job) People if you bring home to the workplace nursing is not for you. if you want a quick job where you can be a grouch, I hear accounting is the best place to be. Just you, your calculator and your temper. Thank you for the responses but I was honestly appalled by some and moved by others very much. Debate is what its all about I guess right? Thanks guys, I look forward to more. -Dan

People in it only for the quick hire
I hate how I see nurses in my hospital who I KNOW from the bottom of their heart, only went to nursing school because they wanted to get hired quickly and have a guaranteed job. To be in this profession you have to have compassion and empathy. I work as a nurse extender in my hospital and I see nurses who are there that don't give a rats @$$ about anything. They point their fingers and give orders, they don't have that quality that most other nurses have. People should be on a very massive probation when they get hired because the NCC needs to be aware of these idiot nurses who don't care about human emotions. I am so sick of it.
