Ive seen one nurse during my second week of orientation going from one unit to another to check and buddy buddy with the inmates..laughing ...flirting with them.....it is so sickening...The pm nurses are so ickey...dont want to talk all night to new orientee like me and I have told them that I AM NOT A SLUG...HERE TO WORK HARD... Didi..I come to work one hour in advance just to pray in my car.....I have to face the hostile and toxic nurses...deal with supermax inmates...and go home take care of a sick elderly parent with cancer.....drive gangbanger neigborhood at night when i leave the jail...the gangs are in the parking lot and on the streets at night...( I work pms )......if i had money...i wish i worked at the casnio or starbucks....i dare not tell my boyfriend where i work bec he said " he wash his hands bec he said i will surely be killed in no time"....

Started in corrections and finding that the coworkers hate "ORIENTING" a new hire nurse...all they want to be is to be nosey about my personal business.....The staff sits in go online to surf..gossip....all day till the shift is over and dont talk to me...We are told on our HR ORIENTATION that the RN AND LPN make an average 250,000$ /YEAR including overtime...for LPN 5 grand every two weeks on OT.......My nurse educator said that the "IT dont train new hire nurses on computer bec it is not their job...and they are jealous with the RNs"....the nurses only tell me about their " UPCOMING RETIREMENT" and that they will soon get " 80% when they retire....free health insurance for life to them and their family and blah blah blah"...I find the job and inmates so nice and polite...The nurses just talk on" their dialect from their country " and dont speak to the new nurses all day...aint that something? God Help me

I am thinking of buying that book...have been working in the jail x 3 weeks now...the nurses ie LPN/RN/PCA dont want to help...wrapped up in their own world...I have to be oriented pms this week to the different divisions.....the staff just want to know about my personal business.......they are really worse than the inmates...

On my second week of orientation to the different units in the jail....was told that 1. In the jail....nurses dont carry malpractice insurance because they have their own attorneys.....have you ever heard of this? 2. Had to deal with a lot of nosey nurses asking me about...how long have you been a nurse.....where have you worked...what shift you work.....do you have a husband and how many kids you have....why chose to work in the jail......what unit have you worked.... 3. I am on my second week and was told that we wont know the shift and unit where we will be working till the end of the five week rotation to all the floors 4.Is it normal that in psych unit at the jail...the nurses dont chart every shift till there is any signifcant change in the patients condition...when i asked why....i was told that the nurses go on deposition a lot so as much as possible they try not to chart...isnt that the reverse? 5. I wear my id while working here at the jail...but i dont see any nurses wearing ID so I am taking off my id today....our ims are here for murder....rape.. failure to register as sex offenders...armed robbery....child molesters....domestic violence....we average 250 ims a shift and I will be triaging them tonight... While doing agency work nights in the psych unit in a hospital....I asked the charge nurse "How come the cna is coming to work with a giant suitcase"? ...."Is she going overseas?"..... I learned later that the CNA had with her all of her nursing books in the giant suitcase...By 12 am .... she magically told the charge nurse that her vital signs for 6 am all done and that she was going to study " All Night"....

Hello everyone...I am awaiting for finalization of my pre employment paperworks and was wondering where is the best place to buy clear bags or backpack...Also wondering what kind of books to study...I am new to corrections but have been an RN x20 years...my background has been psych /detox x 13 years....occupational health...hemodialysis....gi lab recovery room...peritoneal dialysis...home health... i will hopefully be working in a jail that has 11,000 inmates or detainees and is maximum security...( one of the largest in the US ) the neigborhood is very dangerous / home to a lot of gang bangers so i know i have to be on guard AT work and out to parking lot AND always ready to run... I will hopefully be working second shift....My boyfriend of x 15 years said " he wash his hands of me if i take this position"...he is not a nurse and just " dont get it",,,,, I have been reading a lot of blogs here...I hope they will not start me on a new grad pay scale as i am applying for an RN1 entry level position... Not germaphobic at all......As for my friend who is also a nurse...she lives in her nursing scrubs and wears them after work including going to the nightclub at the casino, eating at restaurants, going to church , doing groceries, shopping in the mall, playing slots at the casino .... she works in public hospital and sees 300 patients a day....

AF wife......i got CLNC VMI student loans.....credit card.....feel so choked everyday......i am attending classes for EXCELL MS CERTIFICATION for free and doing job search there....the class is filled with all middle age people..one lady sitting next to me who lost her job as customer service said she got paid 14 dollars a day cleaning horse **** and watering the horse ....a total of 300 a month she gets for all the work she does...she comes to class smelling of barn and hand all covered in blisters from severe cold weather where i live.. this situatiion is painful and sad and all the support i have is ALLNURSES and my computer school....no family support and all my friends are tired of listening to me and my situation and all they can say is I CANT BELEIVE NURSES DONT HAVE JOBS...THEY ARE IN DEMAND.....BLAH BLAH BLAH

It is so hard....I have been out of hospital x 2 years and have contracts from agencies here and there...unemployed now x 2 months with no unemployment help....thinking of working at STARBUCKS ....My hx of x 20 years of RN BSN experience in USA, RGN in UK since 1990....BSN RN NURSE MIDWIFE in my country 1985.......CLNC till 2015...all went down the drain...living in sewage and applying and interviewing everywhere....my boyfriend said he is tired of taking care of me and planning on " cutting the cord" by MARCH 2013.....soooo sad and depressed with this situation...no christmas and 50th birthday celebration either

I have been an RN with BSN x 19.5 years in Illinois and 27 years internationally ( nurse midwife back in 85 and also an RN in UK 90 )and left the last OHN agency/temp job bec of bankruptcy and got tired of not getting OVERTIME PAY from agency for one and a half years working for the client ( major airline ) and non stop verbal abuse FROM dingbat nurse manager who dont even know how to draw blood or ekg. To keep afloat...i have been working as a driver for senior who needed help with groceries.....ive also applied at the casino....Have not applied for unemployment bec I was just agency and i actually quit the job...Have worked inpatient psych in 2010 but quit the job after work related injury ( severe back pain secondary to non stop beatings from patient) and have been going to diff temp RN assisgnments to pay the bills since 2010 AFTER leaving last hospital job....ie OHN/AVIATION assignment, Palliative Care Prescription Refill, Adolescent Psych ( Agency ), Home Peritoneal Dialysis

Ive applied for a non nursing job at the local casino.... My hx: RN X 19 YEARS....CLNC..... the OHN job i had as contract/agency RN went bankrupt x1 year and closing the medical dept.... been off x 3 weeks now with no calls after applying everywhere.......taking one minute at a time....absolutely no family support or friends...my friends who are older and experienced AND also disabled nurses have stopped communicating with me as they have been going to diff states just to look for job and staying with relatives..... not celebrating Christmas this year

A job...just lost my per diem agency job for occupational health.....the company went bankrupt x 1 year and they just throw us contract nurses in the garbage can....Three weeks of no work now and fighting depression.....Im an old nurse with x19 years of RN experience....ive applied a non nursing job to work in the casino to keep me afloat....ive also been applying for nursing positions but no call...I absolutely love Christmas and not celebrating it this year...

I have the skills and experience ( x18.5 years as an RN in my town x 27 years internationally UK and Asia) but your right...it depends on timing and luck.....I plan on going even it would could cost an arm and a leg on parking...train ride ....etc....I wish i can crawl underneath a rock...I am so tired of my once a week PER DIEM RN work as a contract RN with Occupational Health....Have been looking and interviewing for FULL TIME WORK x one year and 4 months and the offers are very painful 1. Home Health RN with driver for 10 dollars/ hour orientation for x 2 weeks AND 25 dollars/hr after two weeks with OASIS notes and visits due on the same day.....In our state the starting salary is $27/hr......I told the interviewer who looks like a 30 year old college grad ( 25 is too low...does that mean I am only worth one dollar for each year i worked in my 19 years as an RN )????? This home health agency was awared 2 million by Medicare after 3 years...aint that something...Guess I am just chopped liver in their eyes... 2. Would any older and experienced RN here volunteer to work for 10 bucks an hour on orientation and jeopardize my money in my other agency job? I walked out that interview and did not complete the application...thats just me....I have respect for myself then bending over and doing that kind of job offer for peanut salary... I want to go to an open house for as case manager for insurance company that begins with an A and was wondering if it would be ethical to go and spend one hour and a half to get there one way ( I had previously applied for this case managment position ...interviewed and turned down ). This all happened in January of this year ( and it is now 4 months ) ....The lady who intereviewed me was a fairly new grad SOCIAL WORKER .... I would like to go there to the open house but dont want to embarass myself if they see me going there after being turned down for a case management position not too long ago... Thanks for your feedback....I appreciate any help and advice....

Today i had interview with the BOSS FROM HELL ( I work contract OHN for a company that went bankrupt x8 mos ).My hours were cut to zero as a result and now only work PRN in the company . I think i kicked ass in interview...it lasted maybe 15 mins... 1. Why do employers interview applicants when the last time i was working in the clinic...I was told by other contract nurse that HE GOT THE JOB bec he has COHN certification? Do employers just want to play THE ROLE bec of EEOC and dont want to be kicked by EEOC guidelines with regards to hiring applicants 2. Here are the interview questions a. What are your goals 10 years from now? b. How can our company help you? c. What was your biggest difficulty working for this company? d. Do you have problems making decisions? e. Do you feel there is a difference between CONTRACT AND FULL TIME employees? f. Considering our companys recent financial situation, why would you want to work for this company? I dread the next few days.....I am optimistic and staying positive...Hoping I see light at the end of the tunnel.... Thanks for listening....I am so down today...We have snow up to our eyeballs...Cant go out and do some job hunt...

Ive renewed my volunteer work in a flu clinic for DEPT. OF HEALTH...( MEDICAL RESERVE CORP) hoping i can network with somebody What a sticky situation Im in....

Any nurses out there jumping ship from RN to phlebtomist....I am depressed with job search.....agency work cancelled...contract work almost zero hours... any thoughts appreciated
