Study Groups
There are lots of ways to approach a study group. Sometimes we make up questions that we think could be on the test. Also, we do the questions at the end of the chapters, we make up study guides and share them. Basically, whatever seems to work for you guys in getting the material in your head and being able to answer any question about that subject. Kim

Tulsa Tech
Hi! You don't have to be a LPN to attend RN school. If you choose that route, that's fine- but just thought I'd let you know. There are several programs in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City area that you can apply- however you have to complete your pre-reqs first. I am currently in my third of four semesters of a BSN program here in Tulsa. It takes four years to complete a BSN- two years pre-reqs and two of nursing classes. If you want to do your associates in nursing- you could do it in about two and then fast track the rest later. It's up to you and what your situation is right now. Hope this helps. Kim

St. John Tulsa
Suzy: I did an externship this summer on 9 west which is a stroke/ telemetry floor that has I think only 15-18 beds. I don't know if that area is the official stroke unit, but there were stroke pts there. It was interesting if that is your thing. The manager is VERY nice. Hope this helps. Kim

Anyone starting or returning to nursing school this fall?
I just met two girls that are also going through the ABSN at OU that just finished their first semester last week at a Manpower Scholarship thingy. I bet they are in your class. It sounds pretty intense to do a semester in the summer !!!! Enjoy your break and next semester should be alot better considering what you just went through. Kim

Anyone starting or returning to nursing school this fall?
WOW! That is way more than any of my semesters. There are so many costs involved when starting nursing classes like scrubs, steths, books, shots, etc. It's amazing. Good luck!! Kim

Net test
I took it a couple of years ago at TCC and I passed with scores in the 80's for reading and in the high 70's for math. I was told by the councelor that even though I passed the test, that I may want to re-take the math portion in order to have a more competitive score. I was mad because I had studied so hard for that stupid thing! Oh! In the math, there is basic algebra also. Kim

Hospital Scholarships
I have considered both hospitals as well. I made my final decision this spring because I have done clinicals at both SF and SJ. I had good experiences at both- however SJ staff just seemed to fit me better. They are both good places to work and have many benefits. Kim

Hospital Scholarships
Hi Tiff: I got an application when they brought lunch at our school one time. You used to be able to download it from their site- I just checked and didn't see it there anymore. You need to call "Julie' in human resources- she handles the scholarships. Or better yet, just go down there and get an application. You will need a copy of you most recent transcripts and I think two letters of recommendations. That's pretty much it. It's real easy- I must warn you that Julie seemed a little overwhelmed and she took some time processing mine. I would stay right on top of it and she will get it rolling faster. You don't have to be an employee there to get the scholarships. I am not working there- but I am externing there this summer. Hope this helps. Kim

Hospital Scholarships
Hi I recently got my first scholarship check from SJ. Because I will be starting my second year of ns in Aug, I got the 3,500 this time ( for fall and spring) and I will get the remainder in May when I graduate. ALso, you don't have to pay the taxes on it- they do ( it's in the contract!). As you already know, there is a two year work agreement along with it. As far as what area you will work in after you graduate, the scholarship person (in human resources) and the actual job you take has nothing to do with each other. It just depends on what jobs are open at the time just like it would be if you were apply for a job without a two year commitment. I've been told that if there is a certain area that you are interested in , you could extern there during your schooling and have a real good chance of getting hired in that area. That is what I am doing now. You get to know the staff and managers and see if that is the area that you really like- with no work commitment! Anyway, I'm just going on and on. I hope this helps. Kim

externships in the tulsa area?
No, I will start with their summer program on June 2, which is a 8 wk thing in the summer twice a week ( either two 8's or two 12's), in the fall it's a 16 wk ( one 8 or one 12 ). I goto orientation in two weeks. I will be on 9 west, from which I understand is stroke patients. I did not get to be assigned to any of the places that I put on my application, but hey! I'll take any paid learning exerience! If yu goto the website, I think it gives you a list of duties. But, basically whatever you have been checked off at school, you can do such as NG tubes, foley, drains, dressing changes, incision care, assessments, cultures, blood glucose. You can call either Connie or Gail at HR. Kim

externships in the tulsa area?
Mistiffy: Applications for externships for the summer are turned in at most area hospitals during the early spring (Jan- March). You could call and see of they still have any openings- so many people apply! I applied for mine at St. John's in Jan and barely got in. If your interested in the fall, you should go ahead and apply now. HR at SJ told me the deadline for fall is July. Most hospitals require that you will be going into your senior year- like my situation. I hope you can find one that you can get into. Good luck!! Kim

Flunking 3rd semester AA program
If you can, talk to some of the upper level nursing students and see how they survived that instructors tests. It may not always be a problem of you not knowing everything, but a problem with test taking itself. Make sure to read the questions thoroughly. Also, I'm sure you have, but if not- read about how to answer NCLEX style test questions, which may help you to eliminate the wrong anwers. Last but not least- give yourself some personnal time to RELAX. If your totally stressed all the time, you don't sleep well or take tests as well. I hope you do weel on the finals!!! Kim :wink2:

Help me find CNA training?
If you need a CNA class that starts often, There is Interim (the one I took - it was good. They had day and night classes), Wings, Dreamakers, and Tulsa Technology Center. You should call now to find out info so that you can enroll. Alot of nursing students take these classes in the summer and sometimes can be hard to find one still open. Hope this helps. Kim

Langston in Tulsa.....
I don't know for sure how many they accept- but I can tell you the average class sizes the last two semesters of entering nursing students have been larger- about 35-40. So, probably close to 80 total for fall and spring. I know they got a grant, so they can accept more students. Kim

Langston in Tulsa.....
When I turned in my appilcation, I was currently taking my last two classes- I guess that they don't mind, as long as your are finishing up by the time you will be ready to start actual nursing classes. Good luck! Kim
