  1. On Saturday I had an alert 95 year old man tell me "I have been married 3 times, if I were younger you would be my wife" . I thought it was so sweet. The best one ever was the daughter of a resident that saw me in the grocery store over a year after her mom died and remembered my name and told me thank you for the good care. That was over 10 years ago, occasionally see her in the store and she always says hi. ( I work in a town with a population of maybe 2000 people)
  2. Medical assistant experience is not nursing experience. You will be a new grad nurse. Maybe some specialty clinic it will help, but again, still a new grad nurse! Something will come up. We were all new grads once!!
  3. Today isn't 5/13/18......
  4. I have worked the same job over 20 years. Rural area. I make over that now, seldom work overtime, and looking forward to early retirement. Longevity worked for me. So did wise investments!
  5. You aren't in school anymore. Good luck to you.
  6. I have been a LPN for over 20 years, at the same job that has been good to me. I hope to retire in 6 to 8 years. Am I really the only LPN that had no desire to become a RN?
  7. And this is what the world has come to... let me grab a bowl full of Tide pods and see what happens...
  8. 17 pound school age child?????
  9. A Certified Medical assistant? And you taught medical residents how to suture? Maybe the medical initials mean something different here, but a medical resident is a soon to be MD, and a CMA is a certified medical assistant. Can you clarify? Thanks.
  10. Why are you doing this FOR your daughter instead of her doing it? What department of the hospital does she have experience in?
  11. Why would you apply for a job as a healthcare aid if you are a LPN?
  12. Money is important. Fact is we have mortgage bills, car payments etc. Health insurance is huge. Retirement is huge. These are all facts of life. The "feel good" parts of nursing are nice, most of us have them. Fact is that money is needed to live.
  13. Not sure about hospital, but in nursing home you can wear scrubs and work in housekeeping or laundry or dietary..
  14. I have been in this profession a long time. I am able to retire at 56. Five and a half more years to go. I guess I'm just looking forward to doing something else. I have worked in the same government facility for over 20 years. Just need a break I guess.
  15. Good luck with that.
  16. In my 20+ years of being an LPN, I have never been disrespected by a RN. I have learned a lot from them, and in turn I have had new grad RNs thank me for helping them out with things new to them. The way I see it is that we are all in this together, a team. Perhaps it's all in attitude or confidence.
  17. The difference is that a LPN is a nurse, and a MA is not.
  18. Being a CNA is not ALMOST a LPN. An LPN is a nurse, a CNA is not.
  19. Nothing. Didn't know it was Nurses week- neither did the company.....
  20. I say that if your user name is your real name, it may be time to change it! Good luck in your new job!
  21. Back in the good old days, nursing homes were for the geriatric population. Now they are labeled "rehab centers" and we have 40 year olds mixed with the 90 year olds. Back in the day, nursing was caring for people not charting. The endless charting now takes time away from actually caring for patients. I miss the good old days of nursing..
  22. Stop posting anything nurse, nursing school, or job related on FB.
  23. Allrighty then..... How about that weather?! This must be a troll post. Wow......
  24. As a new grad, I made $10.02 an hour. I thought I was rich! That was in 1995! What I tell my kids (college graduates now) is that you dont start on the top- but you have to start somewhere! Good luck in your career! The journey truly is worth it!
  25. I would love to say, " You can NOT be freakin serious when you want your 101 year old, 88 pound mother a full code!?" No matter how much "family education" we provide, they still think that is what would make her "better" again. GRRR.... Drives me insane! The families drive me nuts, the residents I can handle!
