I have been searching for some form/template for weekly antidotal notes. Any ideas? I have goggled it and searched on other sites , read a few articles but just wanted something basic

I have my MSN and no desire for a PhD. I teach lPN students and also community college ADN's. I find it to be rewarding and at times challenging.

I think this is very normal. I do not lecture students only do clinical but I try to combine what they learn in lecture and apply it to the clinical setting. I always have anxiety with every new group of students because they are an unknown. But I would say be confident in your knowledge and skill and know that you bring much to the table. I agree that the money is not great but I decided after seeing some of the newer nurses and what little they knew it was time to either step up or shut up.

I also think trying to stay active is key. I also am 60 and have had a joint replacement. I find the more I move the better I feel but some days it is a struggle

This is so nice for me to realize I am not in the minority. I worked night shift for 33 years and have been on days for the past 3. My husband calls me before he leaves for work at 530. I am a coffee in the am out the door and breakfast at work, not really a big fan of breakfast. Lots of coffee👍

As a clinical instructor I check all the charting my students do on their patients. I will tell you it is difficult at times due to the variety of documentation systems. I usually have 6 students and tell them I must be physically present for any procedure and they can only give Meds with me. Having said that, if there is a procedure I am not familiar with, after reviewing the policy, I will ask the staff nurse if we can observe her doing it once and we will do after that.

Anyone planing on attending the conference

I would like a system where it is one and done instead of having to document in several places. I believe we spend at least 90% of our time on the computer when you factor in scanning meds. Patients do complain that we look at the computer and not the person which is true to some degree. I do believe that there are fewer med errors due to the scanning of both the patient and the medication. It is easier to access educational material for the patient but it still all takes time. While I am all for technology I worry that moving away from the patient may be the death of us all.

I have to do my first simulation scenario with a group tomorrow. I was thinking of doing something simple like a transfusion reaction. Any ideas or thoughts on how to do this and remain calm. My anxiety level is pretty high.

I also left bedside nursing 2 years ago and it broke my heart. At the time I was 58 years old and had been at the bedside for 30 years. I took a non traditional nursing position and am also a clinical instructor for a local university. I decided my health was more important to me at that time and because I was part of an aging workforce transitioned into a non bedside position. I am saddened by the state of nursing today, more to do and less to do it with, less senior nurses to mentor younger nurses and younger nurses who are wondering what the heck they were thinking getting into this profession. It is a sad state of affairs.

Med-surg is a great option and may be a big help when you take the NCLEX. Specialty areas are just that and the focus will be on the speciality, so med surg is a little of everything. I am almost amazed when people say they do not like med surg, honestly, all other speciality areas are based out of med surg.

Is there a place where I can purchase just the pocket cards for the MEND exam?

I am 60 and have no plan to retire. I have a 401 that lost some money but has regrouped, I have a small savings. It seems like everytime I think the savings will grow something happens and I need to pull some money out. My biggest concern is health insurance and how will I pay for it, I have been fortunate not to have had any serious health issues or injuries. But the 35 years at the bedside have taken their toll, my knees creak, my shoulders and neck ache and at times I have a low back ache. I am thankful that I am still able to work full time.

what book does your school use for concept maps

Whispera has given good advice. I always talk to my students during clinical about the patient, care they give and help with any questions. My downfall this term has been writing on clinical prep work. I write concepts on concept maps but need to be doing more with weekly preps. I am on a learning curve as a new instructor and this has been the big thing my students told me last week. We are close to ending the rotation and I asked them for feedback so I improve my performance. They seemed somewhat surprised that I asked but offered constructive criticism and hints which I appreciate and will use in my next rotation.

This is upsetting to me because my adult child who has CP and learning disabilities has dealt with this her entire life. Graduated from the university with a degree in math but has not been able to find a job. We believed that when she became an adult the world would be kinder but have found it is just as cruel sometimes as it was as a child.

My students continue to struggle with concept maps. I have discussed nursing dx vs. medical diagnosis. Interventions geared to level of patient or family, goal setting and encouraged to use both their care planning book and concept map book. Any ideas on how to make this easier for them would be appreciated.

I have an evening clinical group and they come in late morning for their assignment and prep work. They have a concept map that is due by the end of clinical the second day. They also have to review labs, history and physical, meds, diagnosis etc. It is a fair amount of prep work but it helps them build some critical thinking skills.

I guess the most anxiety producing for me is grading concept maps. I am use to care plans and I am wondering if anyone has a rubric they use for concept maps. I am reading the book on concept mapping but I am a little nervous about grading them correctly. Any tips would be appreciated.

I will have a clinical group for the first time next week. 6 students, second year, associates. Any tips or encouragement or how to handle this?

Where did you get the NCLEX test plan?

I actually have my BSN from UOP and my MSN from Walden. I decided to do these schools so I could progress at my own rate and not be locked into a schedule where if something happened it may be 2 years till I could re-take a class in the rotation. Both of these programs were rigorous and I had a state university faculty member who told me my text books were the same ones being used here in Pennsylvania at the traditional university nursing program. I believe you get out what you put into a program and it does not matter if it is online or brick and mortar school if you apply yourself . There were people at UOP who failed out because they did not do the work and the work was not easy but took research and time. As for Walden my practicum requirement equated to me working my full time job and then doing 6-8 hours a night on clinical with my preceptor to get my required hours and projects in on time. I am upset that you would think my knowledge level and skill level have suffered due to online learning.

Generally at the convention, one year it is on the East Coast and the next year usually on the West Coast. Surprised that it was in Nashville last year and Orlando this year, usually end up in Las Vegas a few years ago it was in Salt Lake City.
