  1. Can an RN who actually worked or currently works there give me advice and info on the hospital. Can you please pm me. I have an interview next Thurs 16th July.
  2. Hey ya'll. Im an Irish nurse living in Atlanta with a year and a half. I trained and graduated in Ireland with a BSc in nursing science and have four years experience working as an RN in Ireland and australia. I mainly worked in med, surg, ortho and spinal rehab. I am a permanent resident here in the states. Passed the NCLEX March 09. Have original licencure in Vermont and am waiting for one thing that is pending on my Georgia licence. I have applied for over twenty rn positions and havnt had any positive feedback. When I spoke with two recruiters they asked me to come in and meet the ward manager for 1) weekends only and 2) nights only. I didnt apply for these positions and am wondering now should I have settled for the scrap jobs that are being offered to me. Does anyone have advice on how I should go about getting the jobs I want? I know that because im an Irish nurse with no US experience I will need some additional orientation but I feel im not being given a chance to prove myself in an interview because I am an Irish nurse.
  3. I am an Irish nurse and presently looking for an RN position in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a green card, Qualified as an RN in 2004 with a BSc in nursing science and have five years experience in various specialties in Australia and Ireland. I am awaiting my licence from GBON and have original licencure in Vermont. I have applied for twenty two jobs in the Atlanta area and all the nurse recruiters are uninterested. I have tried to call them every day, left a message and nobody gets back to me. Its very frustrating. I feel like im not being given a chance and am being discriminated against. I check the job status website everyday and see that another position has been filled. I havnt been to any interviews yet. Can anyone tell me why I am so unemployable???????????/ unappealable/????
  4. I am also on the search for an RN nursing job in Atlanta, Georgia. On one position it satated, " Nurse clinician- CSRC (interdepartmental staffing)." Does anyone know what CSRC means?
  5. Im living in Atlanta, Georgia. The whole process including visa and NCLEX took over two years even though my husband is American. That is why I didnt have the 5+ year wait. I just got my permanent residency last week. I have heard that the wait at the moment is five years if you are applying as an RN. I would reccomend applying ASAP and at least the process has begun. Suzanne doesnt like people discussing her plan but I would reccomend, being an international nurse, looking into her plan. It is very helpful and builds your confidence for the exam. You can find info about it on this forum. You can pm her once you have 15 posts. Best of luck with visa and NCLEX. Its worth all the tears and frustration.
  6. Hi Peterthescot, I moved here in Feb 2008 and have been trying to get organised to work as a nurse here ever since. I passed the NCLEX in March, thanks to Suzanne's plan. You have to wait approx six weeks for your results to be posted on-line and then you get verification of licenscure, which basically means you passed the NCLEX and you have a licence to work here. If you need to change your licence to another state it depends on the state. You need to contact the state board of nursing in which you wish to work. You should also ask them what are the requirements for an international nurse. I needed transcripts from my school of nursing, employment varification etc. I think it varies from state to state. The most important thing right now is to pass the NCLEX exam. I would reccomend doing Suzannes plan. I failed the NCLEX twice and passed the third time thanks to Suzannes plan. You can contact her through this forum. Good luck with the NCLEX exam. Dofarel.
  7. I trained in Ireland and moved here last year. I have work authorization and am unsure how to go about getting an RN position in Atlanta. I passed my NCLEX in early March and am presently waiting for my Georgia licence. Do I need to do an orientaion course similar to the new grad orientation course? I have not worked as an RN in the US yet. I have five years experience working as an RN in Australia and Ireland. Also, should I take additional courses while waiting for my licence eg phlebotomy, iv insertion.( Nurses in Ireland are not trained in taking blood or iv insertion.) Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. I am in the situation. Degree from Ireland. Passed my NCLEX through Vermont. Living in GA. Need to know if CGFNS is required. Do you know?

  10. Congrats on passing the NCLEX. I passed mine this week also. Happy job hunting. Our hard work has finally paid off.
  11. OH MY GOD. I PASSED. Im in complete shoch. I cried when I saw PASS. I STILL CANT BELIEVE IT. Thank you Suzanne. You have helped me get my life back on track. Your an angel.
  12. Oh God. I just got home from doing the Nclex. I didnt feel too confident leaving the centre. I got cut off at 75 also but found it difficult. I got alot of Pharm Qs, about three STAT, alot of infection control and priority. I stupidly checked the answers from the Qs I could remember. Im hoping that the reason I found it hard was because I answered the easy ones. I just want to find the result out now. Best of luck to everyone else waiting for results. Its scary.
  13. I havnt come across a prolapsed uterus yet but ill make sure to be aware, and not freeak out. Thats such a funny story.
  14. This is a great idea. Ok here i go........ Fresh Frozen plasma is infused within two hours of thawing, while clotting factors are still viable, and is infused as rapidly as possible. Tests used to determine the presence of antibodies to HIV include.....ELISA, Western Bolt, and immunofluorescence assay (IEA) If a naso gastric tube is in the stomach, the pH of the contents will be acidic. Gastric aspirates have acidic values and should be 3.5 or lower. Ok one more.......... Effleurage is a specific type of cutaneous stimulation involving light stroking of the abdomen and is used before transition to promote relaxation and relieve mild to moderate pain.
  15. Hey Everyone. Just wondering how many hours a nurse works a week in the U.S. and what are typical weekly schedules like. Is self rostering popular over here?
