  1. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: SPLIT ENDS!! omg I was reading this at work at a quiet time.. (10 pts and 3 nurses.) I clapped my hand over my mouth before the squeal could escape. I can just imagine it: "Ma'am, please stop blow drying your sister's pubic hair. It increases her risk for split ends that may lead to her requiring a pubectomy"
  2. I recently had my 6th child. My first five children were taken from me by an abusive ex-husband from another country after I told him I wanted a divorce. Long story short: I came home from work one day, they weren't home, and I waited and they simply never came home. I never told my nurses my background, I am sure a few of them had opinions they were keeping to themselves. No one person has the right to decide when another has had enough children. More importantly, we are taught to be non-judgemental in the health care field, because you dont a person's background based on their current medical diagnosis. How utterly unprofessional, disrespectful, and downright rude. An excerpt from an essay I once wrote: "And then there's the people that look at me and are amazed that I had the nerve to produce five children. They look at me with contempt and utter scorn for having been so selfish as to have brought five whole new people into an already over-populated world. Yes, I admit it now, the over-population of the world is entirely my fault. The world was going just fine until I had my children. Then all hell broke loose. Crude oil became scarce. The ozone layer was depleted. Endangered species died out. Ice caps melted and caused mass flooding throughout the world. I would like to take this moment to humbly apologize for single handedly over-burdening the world." Oh.. and did I mention I'm the oldest of ten.....
  3. If it were a new piercing, I suppose, then yes, it could be a source of infection. But, for instance, my eyebrow piercing I can take out for days at a time like an ear piercing because I've had it for years. And that's exactly what I do. I'm just wondering why policy makers can't just come out and say "no piercings just cuz we dont like 'em!!" instead of trying to come up with lame excuses
  4. I know many nurses that have highly visible tats that have no problem at work. Some work for the world famous cancer center here in Houston, and are nurse managers!! Just be smart about them, dont flaunt them, and try to keep them covered and most definately do not let them be seen during an interview. But if -god forbid@!!! you are found out, just say that youve had them, and who knew youd become a nurse back when you first had them done! (thats what I say hehe) Many places say any visible tats have to be covered up. I have yet to see a place that will fire you for having one peak out from the edge of your sleeve or neckline of your scrub top!
  5. Hi, Im worried about how I might or might not fit in with the general public in Colorado! Im thinking of relocating in Colorado, either Denver, Boulder, or Colorado Springs. Im originally from Cleveland, Ohio, but Ive been in Houston for over 7 years now. I hate the heat and humidity and am homesick for real seasons! I love the snow and all that comes with it. Only reason Im not considering Cleveland is that it seems too old fashoined for me. For example: I have a tongue and eyebrow ring, as well as 2 tattoos that seems to draw everyones attention when I visit my family in Cleveland. (btw, I do not flaunt these while working, or at all for that matter, and 98% of people I meet outside of work find my eyebrow ring "pretty" and don't even realize I have anything else out of the oridinary, so please dont assume hehe) In this day and age, I feel people should look past appearance, and that people should be allowed to express themselves however they see fit, whether its in writing, in the clothes they wear, hairstyles/colors, or in tattoos or piercings. Any opinions? :uhoh21:
  6. As an LVN (that's Texan for "LPN" :) ) I have made it, and even went on to get my RN. Most hospitals dont pay enough, so look for LTC, especially SNF units, or agencies. Good luck, and keep cool!
  7. A thought came to mind.. I wonder if this show is directed/produced by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Similar mind sets..
  8. I wonder if we could catch the names of the doctors and look them up.. you know.. send some fan mail... give them a call...let them know how great we think they are since they are the Beings known as Doctors, so we can worship them like they deserve and grovel at their feet.. *sigh* oh to be that spectacular...
  9. I work in LTC with Alzheimers patients. Ive heard of it. Its called "hospice".
  10. Traumamamma, I cant even begin to imagine the pain you are going through. You have got to be one of the strongest selfless people I have "met".. YOu and your family will be in my thoughts and I hope your find comfort in knowing your mother will have an end to suffering..
  11. I totally Agree!!!! If you work in a psych ward or a dementia/alzheimers etc, type of facility, then you are made aware of the dangers. But when it is a case of an irate but mentally competent patient who is probably drug dependent (since you mentioned the narcotic med) then by all means! Take it to whoever you can and get heard. We are here to "cause no harm", not to recieve harm.
  12. Ive had migraines for over 7 years due to an injury (X stomped on my head in a fit of rage) When I have a flare-up, there is NO faking it. Complete strangers tell me I look like crap. My right eye swells and tears up in response to light, I cant move quickly because the movement makes it worse, I vomit continuously due to the pain. I dont blame you for blowing up at that girl. Migraines are not something to joke about or fake! I know pain is subjective. But c'mon......
  13. But legally, when it comes down to it, YOU are the patient and therefore have the right to say who stays and who doesnt. You will have enough to worry about during your delivery without having to stress over your MIL seeing your bits and pieces and worrying about your husband taking unwanted photos of you! If I were you (Im due 1-12-05 and its NOT my first :) Id put my foot down. If my best friend couldnt be there, then no one can. Just my two cents, since ya asked
  14. Here in HOuston, my tuition is MUCH less than that. I completed the LVN program which I chose to do so I could get out of my $8 an hour job in a year and am now comlpeting the LVN to RN bridge program (another year of school) while working as an LVN. I still havent paid $20,000 and I only have a semester left..
