Hi there, I have been seriously thinking about working for the state as a RN surveyor as well. I am curious as to the starting pay for new RN surveyors, especially with the state budget crunch. I hear for a new RN the beginning pay is like $43K annually? OldladyRN, any advice would be greatly apprecatie regarding an approprate salary offer. I also hear the state is very selective in the hiring process for state positions as such? And that, an indepth background and extensive interiew process is involved. But as you stated, the benfits and autonomy with the position is a plus! Awaiting your reply....thanks much

It's great that u made a decision that fits "your life." UOP-MSN program defintiely becomes a challenge as you progress through the MSN courses. The initial classes are bascially to introduce you to graduate studies and what will be required of you as a graduate-level learner. So, take advantage of the free tutorials and workshop in the beginning, because it will help ensure your ability to keep up with online learning requirments. Take time out for yourself and your family, as the stressors will come. Advance planning is vital/crucial, in that you must not procrasinate as this could cause major set backs in your progression through the program. I agree with some of the other posters that some students become fustrated because they are not prepared to do graduate level work and you will see persons drop out of the program or become fustrate within the thread and/or perform poorly academically. You must acheive a B average in every course with uop MSN program! This is the expectaion at most ground and online programs. The current CNO-chief nursing officer at the community hospital where I live obtained her MSN from-University of Phoenix-online. All The best, Praise, RN

Hi Runner VA-- In my opinion, HSBCU's represent a very important part of "history" wherein African Americans were able to be educated during a very diffcult time of racial oppression in our country. HBCU's certainly should not be viewed any different from any other college and/or university. As with any university/college, as a educated prospective student, one should research the accrediation of any college or university, no matter the prestige or location of the educational institution. Education is what you put into it as a "student" or "adult learner" regardless of the education institution one attend. I did undergrad (BSN) at a HSBC and went on to grad school after 1 year and obtained a MSN/ED. I graduated sigma theta tau (International honor society of nursing-graduate level) and will put my education toe-toe with any of my colleagues. You should not view your education as a competition with some one else, but think from a more diverse perspectve. Trust God to lead and guide "you" in all your ways and no blessings that is destined for u can be hindered. Man does not hold your future success, God does! I have not had a problem finding a job since obtaining my nursing degree(s). Currently, I am the most educated nurse in comparision to man of my colleagues in my places of employment. Remember as a nurse you will have to be cultural competent in order to provide the highest level of care. I would also encourage you to research the passing rates of the students on the NCLEX and converse/visit the campus of your prospective nursing program for a better feel of the nursing program. Hi Guys, I see that the usa MSN programs are all online. Are the clinicals for the NP programs done in Alabama and/or does one find a clinical site/preceptor wherein he or she lives? If you completed a Master of science in nursing and a specilization in education I would suggest using: Jane Doe, RN, MSN/ED If a Master of Science in nurisng only: Jane Doe, RN, MSN This varies per individual and institution policy regarding name tags and listing of credentials. Do anyone know any online PA schools that would be a good route considering educational credentials already? I know most PA schools are 2 years in length. Nurese79, What in particular do you want to know about the practicum? It depends upons what you like to do and something that would be interesting and not to difficult to complete. Remember what ever you choose for your practicum and once it is approved by faculty you are responsible for completing it. I would say choose something that is fun and exciting!

This decision is based upon what your job endeavors are. The mininunm degree requirement for grad school is a BSN. There are those who do the ADN/RN-->MSN route, however, they still have to take BSN classess incorportated within their MSN program, in order to receive a MSN. If future job endeavors includes teaching at a college and/ or university you probably want to go the BSN-->MSN route after obtaining your LPN. You can not function or will you be hired with a ADN/RN within these type of educational institution (4 year college/university).

Are you doing your post Master's certificate (CNS) with the uop?

It seems this doctor is very unprofessional and has no integerity what-so-ever. The facility DON and Administrator have to sit dowm and set boundaries with this doctor concerning his mal-behavior. I would never give up my chair let alone go get coffee for him. Document everything and even record it if possible. This type of redundant behavior can be reported to the Medical Board. Glad I do not have to work with this low-class doctor.

I am a second year grad student at the uop (2008' MSN/ED). My experience has been wonderful/challenging. I have never encountered a problem contacting any of my professors from day one. Each professor's contact numbers will be available on every course syllabus and email as well. It is encouraged that you utilize the (email) as most professors within that same business day will respond to any questions from students. I have never went more than one day without a response to any questions that I've had. Online learning is more challenging than a traditional Master's program, as one is required to be very structured, pritorizing life events around assignment due dates, etc. Actually uop is one of the best online graduate programs that one can complete his/her degree. Most traditional universities Master's programs have implemented online degree programs now as well, particularly to market with the other online programs, as this is the modern way for working-committed adults to obtain their education. Be prepared to be challenged in your thinking, writing, research, graduate level standards is a must! The nursing graduate school is very big on incoorporating scholarly writing into individual/team papers, projects, etc. Graduate level standards will be inforced without compromise. Team assignments are a challenge in that some individuals may not be structured enough and/or able to function at a graduate level and usually drops the course or fails. Professors do monitor team participation, effort with assignments, and quality of work contributed to a team/individual assignment. The team is also responsible for reporting and completing team evalutions for each team assignment. Plagarism is grounds for dismissal from the program. As far as a sub-standard school, the uop nursing school is fully accredited just as any other graduate nursing program and their graduates rank very high in the work-force clinically and academically, in comparison with traditional universities graduates. Currently the chief nursing officer at the university hosiptal I work part-time is a UOP alumni. Actually the uop graduate nursing program is more difficult than most of my colleagues who are doing traditional route for their Master's, in regards to course expectations and course content. Lastly, think really hard concerning life events now personally and ponder if you will be able to committ to being online for mandatory partcipating 4 out of 7 days every week, including answering/responsing to professors, colleagues disussion questions, completeing individual/team assignments and online chapter readings, etc., while maintaining a family, etc...This will determine your success or failure! The program is expensive, so be focus from day one. Personally, I am single and have no kids right now, which has helped tremendously in my academic success, however many of my colleagues do have families and I can feel their fustration in every class. I have also been pre-offered from 3 different BSN America's top traditionally universities to come on staff now as adjunt faculty and full-time offers upon graduating from all three. I declined currently due to it would be too much right now with classes, but after graduating I have so many options as an advance degree nurse educator/professional nurse. It amazes me how supportive the medical board is when it comes to issues like these. On the other hand, the nursing boards are totally different. I find the nursing boards tend to be more harsh in disciplining licenses over the years than the medical board. What will it take for us to become more supportive of each others issues as professionals, rather than trying to definitely take away a persons career. How is that helping slove the problem? I do not know of any nurse in my state who has been allowed to practice while going through drug rehab...That shows you that we as a nursing profession really need to rethink some things..specifically the individuals who are in board positions and on the discipline committee. I personally think the nursing discpline committee strives to prove a point and/or make a public statement, rather than be effective in the discipline process.....Just my soap box :)

Maybe doing sometype of staff/mother-baby educating in relations to the psychological/physicalogical aspects of the birthing process. Educating apprehensive moms/dads, particularly first time familes, in dealing/understanding the whole birthing experience. Just a suggestion...Hope this helps.
