Any Advice for starting new job in the ER??
Thank you for your advice!! I have 2 youg children of my own, and was a little worried with the Pediatric aspect of the Er. I know as a mother how I feel when my children are sick. And working with this population in the Er is what makes me somewhat nervous. But I hope to turn this into an aspect that makes me a good nurse in the ER when it comes to working with Peds. And absolutely, the techs will have my utmost repsect!! They sometimes know as much as RN's!!!

Any Advice for starting new job in the ER??
I currently work on a heart and vascular intermediate care unit and have been a nurse for 1 year. We do take ICU pt's at times. My main concern is the change in atmosphere. What to expect? How to deal with pediatric population/and families of. And anything else you want to throw at me! Thanks!

Who Would Like To Be Part Of The Lose Weight And Get Healthy Team?!
I am definetly in.......I just had a baby in October 2006.....and due to the fact that I craved any type of sweat I could get my hands on, I gained 60 lbs....WOW......Plus I quit smoking about 3 months before I got pregnant....which made everything double tastey....LOL......I have already started walking a mile or 2 every day.....and I have cut my portions of eating in half and have added more veggies to my diet.....I began the diet part about a month ago and the walking part about 2 weeks ago and I have lost almost 10 lbs. I figure since my father has had a heart attack and 2 stents and my mother has had a heart attack and 3 stents.....I should start taking better care of myself....My goal is to loose the 60lbs I gained.....

A&P II Club, 2007
WOW.....What is you grade in this class......Are you half way through... You must have a prof from hell And It's not the end of the world if you drop the class.....you have a heavy load with the other 2 classes you have. If you think that you are going to fail this course...then definetly drop it....and take it again when your course load isn't so heavy.....I am suprised that your advisor didn't warn you about how difficult your course load was going to be.....Taking A&P, Micro, and Stats, in the same semester would be very hard.....I would think??? I am taking A&P II beginning in April's quarter....we are in quarters at the college I attend....and going to semesters starting this summer.....I am going to take my micr this summer....but the summer quarter is shorter than before because of the change to semester....so that will either be good or bad....anyway....don't worry if you have to drop the class....main concern is your GPA, You definetly want to keep up your GPA....

How competitive is your program?
Rumor is that at the school I attend, they accept around 80 students.....and locally there are 3 other colleges that have nursing programs....

How much will your education cost you?
For ADN probably around 10 g's couting books....But I want to go on to get my BSN....So probably another 8g's or so for that.....I am going to try and do a Government nurse Repayment plan.....I have read some about it on the internet....in a nut shell, if you work at certain places...such as a rural setting, state funded hosp, federal funded hosp, and a bunch of other criteria, they will pay back 60% of student loan, for the first 2 years, and then you can apply for a third year and they can pay up to 25% that year. I thought it might be worth looking into towards the end of my college career....I have stafford loans .... plus I had contemplated about trying to get on at a VA Hospital.

Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?
I am not a nurse yet, but hope to be soon.....My fascination with the medical field started when I was young. I had an uncle who was parapallegic. My grandmother cared for him until he was 50 years of age, she was 70. They had to be put into a nursing home. My father has Parkison's disease, which I know that one day he will need me. These life experiences have definetly had an impact on my decision to become a nurse. I have 2 young daughters, whom I want to be able to know what to do incase they need me medically. I want to have a job that is rewarding, and feel that I have done something awesome for someone. I have worked for a steel mill for 5 years....the pay is good, but the job sucked....plus I never knew if I may loose my job due to job cuts.....which has happened to me before.....Not fun:crying2: So.....Hopefully I will find my rewarding path of nursing. I am dedicated to becoming a sucessful nurse....and I believe that I will enjoy my career as nurse...:nuke:

I'm just curious....I went partially through surg tech school about 8 years ago....I had started my clinical rotation when I had to quit....So I didnt get to see everything....especially from an RN point of view???
