Hey Guys-- Here is my :twocents:. I COMPLETELY agree with everyone who says that "If you aren't a nurse, PLEASE don't call yourself a nurse." I worked long and hard for my degree, and it burns me up :flmngmd: when I go to my MD's office and- even HE says- "Hang here a minute, the NURSE will bring back your Rx", and I know that this office uses Medical Office Assistants. If you want to call yourself a nurse, LPN, or RN, GO BACK TO SCHOOL and work for it, just like I did (and I ain't no spring chicken!:omy:). 's RN

I worked with a surgon that KNEW he was better than God, and actually yelled and screamed the REAL bad word in front of the staff, other MD's, and wide awake patients, until one night I was so fed up with him and his language that I flat told him to shut up, and the patient, who was on the O.R. table at the time, clapped his hands and said "You go girl!":yelclap: After I wrote him up the third time, the facility suspended his privilages!! I am a travel nurse, and at the hospital I was in up in DC, 90% of the staff was from another country. Most of them spoke in "their langauge", the only time thry spoke English was to speak to me,Anyway, I had been there about a week, (with NO floor orientation, mind you), the director of the unit walked up to me, in the middle of he CCU, and CHEW me roally IN THE MIDDLE OF THE UNIT, for about 10 min. Every time I tried to interupt to ask her to take it to her office, she got worse. The kicker is, most of the stuff she was yelling about was things NOBODY told me I had to do (I;m refering to some papaer work, not patient care). I was SO embaresed!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did later ask her not to yell at me in front of the rest of the staff, but she told me that was "just the way I do things."When I said something to me requter, she said that "there was really nothing I can do about that."I hung in there about two months, but then couldn't stand it after two months and cut it short.Angel's Rn

hey critterlover-- you hit the nail on the head!!!! i agree that i would not want to be the one to draw up the guidelines, either. but under the right circumstances, i would much rather see a dignified death for some of the patients that i take care of than the way that they (sometimes) have to live--because the family just "can't let grampa go!@ i'll miss him so much!" now, grampa is 99 years old, senile, trached and on a terminal vent, mind you. i work in icu/ccu, and some of the residents convince the family that "they can fix grampa!!" that burns me up!!!!!!:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire but again, that's just my penny and 1/2. I have never heard of being "cancelled" with an agency. I thought that, and have been told that, because I have a contract, they can't cancel me, and I can't cancel them. I was told by Onward that I can't leave and go home (I am 9 hours from home) without paying the housing. I have a family emergency, but SHE doesn't care!! I have been here 2 months, and they told me I have to pay them d--- near $2000.00!!!!!!!!!!! If they can cancel me, why can't I give notice, which I did, and go home???? 's RN

help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have had the worst experence with this angency!!!!!!! i have a family emergency, and my recuter is very unsympathic. she informed me that i have to pay for the housing-the entire 3 months, not just what is left. she informed me that "we have lawyers, and they can get tough." then she told me that i probably woudn't get another job with a travel agency, because i am leaving early. i am so ticked off, i don't know what to do. i just don't understand why she can't understand. my spose is disabled, and i am the sole caregiver. he has to get someone to take him to the md, store, ect. i am at my wits end!!!!!!!!!! the thing is, the director of the hospital i am at does understand. she told me that family comes first, just like i told the agency. he went to the md today, and has to go to a specialist. long story short, i'm going home, at the end of the week!!! angel's rn (p.s. i am 9 hours from home.)

:lol2: i'll go one better--i was under "vitamin v" for a total knee replacement, and my ortho was a very good looking man. i was told that the entire o.r. (in which i worked, by the way) knew by the end of the surgery, just how good looking i thought he looked. yeaaaaaa---versed is good stuff, very good!!!!!!! 's rn

Good morning one and all- I just finished reviewing the last few posts on this thread, to refresh this old brain . I did start traveling, by the way, and I am now at a facility that actually signs the narcs out of a double locked drawer. The only time someone needs to co-sign a med. is when we need to waste. This is the most dangerous way of handling narcs. that there is. Anyone can sign out a med. for any patient and divert . Trust me, I am going to be sure that I stay on everyone's good side :bowingpur. As you all probably know, a hospital will side with staff over agency EVERY TIME. Personally, I don't think that is's fair, but who am I ? Keep me in your thoughts!! 's RN

Onward HealthCare is the agency I'm with. My recruter is great, she is there every step of the way. Watch out for agency's that take housing out of the "package pay". Housing should be free--mine is. It's on top of my hourly pay. Good luck and have fun (as well as work, of course.) 's RN

Yes, I have reported one of my co-workers. This nurse did not give ANY of the patients meds ALL NIGHT. The patient was in for CP-R/O MI. When I came in the next shift, the last time the meds were taken out was when I took them out the day before. This nurse got fired, but, what eles could I do? If I didn't report it, the med error would have been on me as well as the other nurse. And yes, I have been reported as well. I was being acused of using drugs, but the manager would not accept a urine drug test to prove her wrong. "Just a fact finding talk" she said. BULL!!@!!!! 's RN

To all Hospsis Nurses, I have the utmost respect for what you do. It is something that I could never do on a regular basis. It tears me up whan one of my patients on the floor - I work in ICU/CCU - passes away, so I know that there is NO WAY that I could do it day after day. Kudos to you all!!!!! 's RN

Hey jes2000-- I am traveling with Onward HealthCare agency, and so far I have been pleased. The good thing about Onward is that when they quote you a salary, the housing is ON TOP of the salary. A lot of the agency's that I spoke to - and I spoke to a bunch of them - if they quote you, say $40.00/hour, they then take $6.00/hour out of that for housing (this is just an example). With Onward, if they quote $40.00/hour, you GET that, PLUS housing. My recuter is on top of things, always calling me back right away if I leave a messge, and she doesn't make me feel that I am intruding on her time when I do call. At our hospital, LPNs and RNs wear Ceil blue scrubs, Nursing assistants wear Maroon, Lab wears another, ECT. Sometimes that works, too. 's RN

Unfortunatly, this is so very true. I am a RN, but when I was a nursing assistant, I made sure that everyone knew that I was a nursing assistant, not a nurse. But, as I have said many times in other threads, I, personally, COULD NOT do without a nursing assistant. You guys are the backbone of the hospital. You do all the grunt work, and get none of the praise. "The 'NURSES' did everything for me" when in fact the nursing assistants did 85% of the patient care--especially on nights. Not that we don't do patient care, that is not what I am saying. But nurses give the meds, do the charting, put up with the MD's, ect.,ect. :trout: Keep up the good work!!!!:yelclap: 's RN
