  1. Already working at a higher level, have been since about July..... I have been involved with interviewin, have developed new starter packs, as there were none and am currently working on a information board to go at the ward entrance, Sister nee it completed next week, as we have cqc in December!! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
  2. UPDATE..... I missed out by 1 point but it's only a 3month secondment, so I'm waiting for it to come up again...maybe for the permanent post next time!
  3. Update, sorry I didn't respond sooner, I got BOTH jobs I went for...took the 2nd one, as in Stroke, which I have been doing for a long time! I am about to go for the band 6 secondment!!!
  4. I want the role as I feel it is time for me to take more responsibility in my work. For the past few months, I have been taking on more band 6 type role, in that I have developed new starter packs for carers and rns, & am currently working on an information board, to go at the entrance of the ward. I am the infection control link nurse and am working with my senior sister to ensure all the staff are compliant with IC policy. I am also taking more of a lead with new staff on the ward. As for the difference in the roles, I have been looking at this and so far I have the following... Band 6 role entails: staff management, ie off-duty & sickness; education; dealing with complaints; answering datixs; financial management; interviewing prospective staff; to work within the MDT as a role model to the other staff and to support the senior sister. Is there anything I might have missed?
  5. Hi Guide, I've been told by my band 7 that there is a secondment for band 6 on our acute stroke ward. I recently failed in the same application, as she told me that there would be an informal chat....however, foolishly I hadn't looked at the difference between the 2 roles...band 5 to band 6! I now have another shot at it.... Any advice for me? (I have been qualified 6 yrs, & working in acute stroke 13yrs)
  6. I don't appear to have permission to post a pic of the dress, unfortunately.
  7. Hi all, I haven't been on in a while! Been busy! I have a job interview on 20th, and was wondering how to dress..... I have read comments on here from previous questions, but I have recently been given a smart black Next dress, which I was thinking of wearing with a pair of black mid heel court shoes...hair up. Any other suggestions? I was also considering buying a jacket to go with, maybe in a contrasting colour? or would that be going over the top? TIA Kathy
  8. omg! i always wondered if there was any harm 2 the patientsfrom smoke on visitors/nurses clothes! wow! (i'm an ex-smoker of 7 yrs, so i do understand how hard it must be 4 u)x
  9. hi, i this has helped me 2, as i'm writing an asignment at present & need 2 include legal/ethical issues applied 2 my patient.
  10. I agree, I've worked in acute stroke for 7yrs, & I love it...my community placement was with the community stroke rehab team, & I found it so interesting, as I had only had experience with the really poorly patients. I envy you, & if we DO ever move down that way, I might be coming for a job with you!
  11. but it's just so rewarding I do agency work as a support worker on the acute stroke ward & I absolutely love it sure, there ARE times when you get treated badly, & wonder why you stay, but the good far outweighs the bad, in my experience anyway
  12. 7 yrs ago, i had cervical cancer, resulting in a hysterectomy I went into nursing, as I wanted to be able to 'give something back' I have made lots of gd friends since working in the local hospital, & am just about to start my 3rd yr at uni, then I'll be a staff nurse....scary stuff!
  13. in my experience, it does get easier, but as i've only worked nights (agency) prior 2 becoming a student, i must admit i never had any worries about it, it just came as part of the job i spose...also i didnt get quite the same bond as a nurse who works days. i hope u dont suffer too much from it, as i'm sure u r aware u will see plenty more in ur time nursing xx
  14. hi, i wondered if any1 had any advice on the sorts of thing i can expect from some1 coming off a month on tramadol? the reason is, my husband had knee surgery 5weeks ago & was ut on tramadol & co-dydramol for the pain. all was going well 4 the 1st week then he got an infection above the knee & was admitted 4 a week. during this time he was still being given both painkillers. the pain was still really bad when he came hime, & he had 14 days worth of each sent home with him. last friday, he decided 2 stop taking them to see if his knee was actually better without, he'd only been taking them am & pm by this time. ever since, he's been suffering with withdrawl. i wanted 2 know if any1 could advise me on withdrawl from these, as i'm not sure. he's getting headaches, joint ache, hot flushes followed by feeling cold, he's been having some loose bowel motions, like his body's not properly digesting his food, and he's not sleeping. he went 2 the doctor 2day, who said 4 him 2 take paracetamol 4 the pain, & basically that there's nothing he can do! is that right? thanx in advance, k x
